Helping children explore the consequences of their choices is much different from imposing consequences on them.
Help students understand their behavior with Think Sheets! Think sheets are an effective way to help children reflect on their behavior and feelings. One Think Sheet has pictures to help identify feelings. Students can circle their feelings to communicate with parents, as well as teachers. The other Think Sheet has words to use rather than pictures. Teachers and parents love this because it is a great communication tool. It allows students to reflect on their behavior and use self-correction, rather than negative consequences. A page for substitute teachers is also included to allow for communication of behaviors during an absence. Students love this because it is easy to use at their level! Using pictures for easy communication of feelings, while the words allow for older students to express themselves. This fascinating natural history reprint of graceful rose-colored Jellyfish is from 1998, reproducing the very early engravings taken from nature by Ernst Haeckel himself; originally printed in the Victorian Era in Leipzig, Germany. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel 1834 –1919 was an eminent German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology, including anthropogeny, ecology, phylum, phylogeny, stem cell, and the kingdom Protista. Haeckel promoted and popularized Charles Darwin's work in Germany and developed the controversial recapitulation theory ("ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny") claiming that an individual organism's biological development, or ontogeny, parallels and summarizes its species' evolutionary development, or phylogeny. The published artwork of Haeckel; 'Kunstformen der Natur' includes over 100 detailed, multi-color illustrations of animals and sea creatures. Ernst truly was an international superstar in his day! 'Jellyfish Formations' is printed on heavy quality satin finish card-paper stock. It measures a generous 9.25" x 12.25" overall with one-inch snowy white borders all around. It's in excellent condition; no tears, folds, creases, or marks... a fabulous print perfect for framing. There's another equally fascinating illustration of tiny ocean polyps printed in pale aquamarine on the reverse side. You may have a bit of trouble deciding which of these lovely prints to frame first. I'll leave that choice up to you. Matted, framed, and displayed as a gallery grouping, these wonderful natural history prints are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photo are just to show how this might look when it's framed. Your print will come to you unmatted and unframed.) About the Book "This book explores the ecological consequences of the twin extinction events--the one that occurred within the Late Devonian (the end-Frasnian extinction) and the one that closed the Devonian period (the end-Famennian extinction)--for the evolution of terrestrial animal life on Earth--Provided by publisher. Book Synopsis The invasion of land by ocean-dwelling plants and animals was one of the most revolutionary events in the evolution of life on Earth, yet the animal invasion almost failed--twice--because of the twin mass extinctions of the Late Devonian Epoch. Some 359 to 375 million years ago, these catastrophic events dealt our ancestors a blow that almost drove them back into the sea. If those extinctions had been just a bit more severe, spiders and insects--instead of vertebrates--might have become the ecologically dominant forms of animal life on land. This book examines the profound evolutionary consequences of the Late Devonian extinctions and the various theories proposed to explain their occurrence. Only one group of four-limbed vertebrates exists on Earth, while other tetrapod-like fishes are extinct. This gap is why the idea of "fish with feet" seems so peculiar to us, yet such animals were once a vital part of our world, and if the Devonian extinctions had not happened, members of these species, like the famous Acanthostega and Ichthyostega, might have continued to live in our rivers and lakes. Synthesizing decades of research and including a wealth of new discoveries, this accessible, comprehensive text explores the causes of the Devonian extinctions, the reasons vertebrates were so severely affected, and the potential evolution of the modern world if the extinctions had never taken place. Review Quotes Informative, lively... Highly recommended.-- "CHOICE"McGhee is able to organize a vast literature into a coherent evolutionary story that is quite unique. From the origin of plants and animals through the Devonian era, this book is a marvelous read. It is important for a wide variety of geologists and biologists and for any readers interested in paleontology and environmental change.--Peter Sheehan, curator, Milwaukee Public Museum About the Author George R. McGhee Jr. is Distinguished Professor of Paleobiology at Rutgers University and a Member of the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research in Klosterneuburg, Austria. He has held research positions at the University of Tübingen, the Field Museum of Natural History, and the American Museum of Natural History.
\"Ron James is a man who knows what he is talking about. Choices will humble you, inspire you, and make a positive difference in your life \" Tracey C. Jones, best-selling author and President of Tremendous Life BooksRonald James knows about choices, both good and bad. Unfortunately, he also knows all too well about the personal cost and tragic results that bad choices bring. After spending more than twenty-five years of his life incarcerated in a nine-by-nine cell with nothing but an uncomfortable bed, a steel toilet and sink, and a roommate, James learned one important lesson: choices determine destiny. With a determination to help others make better choices, James chronicles his emotional, heartfelt, amusing, and thought-provoking journey through his personal battles, decisions, and the consequences that led him to pay the ultimate price with his life and time. As he details his experiences from an early age, James provides insight into how he developed a survival mode of thinking that evolved into a powerful tool of manipulation. He began to believe in his own lies and became deceitful in order to remove himself from tight situations. While reflecting on his own path through life and the chain of events that eventually led to his downward spiral, James encourages and empowers others to learn from his mistakes, consider their choices, and trust in God to experience a life greater than ever imagined.Choices is a compelling, inspirational autobiography that shares life-changing wisdom for anyone who wants to begin making better choices today. This book is an update of the values clarification literature of the 1970s in the works of Simon, Howe, Kirschenbaum, Harmin, and Hawley. Originally intended for use in the classroom, this work both updates the content to the current scene and applies it to the world of work. It includes eight scripts that cover team building, employee motivation, succession planning, corporate values statements, relationship building, and personal self-exploration. The 42 activities inlcude updates of old favorites such as the Pie of Life (now the Pie of Work), Alligator River (now Border Crossing), and 20 Things I Love to Do (now things You Love to Do), plus new activities such as Target Job Rating, Job/Successors Matrix, What Makes Me Tick, and Mission and Values. The activities typically include worksheets that may be copied and used with teams, training classes, individuals, partners, and other settings. It is intended as a companion piece to The Owner's Manual for Values at Work, also by Dr. Pierce J. Howard (CentACS, 2016). The Owner's Manual provides the history and theory of working with values, while the Toolkit provides the How To. The Owner's Manual introduces the reader/professional to the seven-step method of values clarification: 1) To what degree do you cherish your value/choice?, 2) To what degree do you openly proclaim it to others?, 3) To what degree did you consider alternatives?, 4) To what degree did you consider the consequences of each option?, 5) To what degree did you choose freely?, 6) How do you maintain, or nurture, your value?, and 7) To what degree do you nurture it repeatedly? Each activity in the Toolkit explores one or more of the seven steps of the values clarification model.
Book Synopsis Arcadia. The garden of the gods of Olympus. Once they walked its sylvan paths, sipping ambrosia, drinking the wines of Dionysus, and filling the arboreal groves with their laughter. Satyrs and centaurs gambolled in the sunlit groves, sprites and dryads tended to the trees and flowers. Even mortals, those chosen of the gods, enjoyed the revels. Everywhere life blossomed with joyous abandon. But Pan plays his pipes no more, Artemis hunts not in the deep forests-green, dryads and nymphs dance no longer in dappled moonlit glades to the music of the spheres. Silence reigns over the weed-infested garden walkways. Ancient trees, long untended, clog the forest trails, roots rise up from the ground to topple the statues, fountains and sundials, cracking open the conservatories and summer houses. The great rivers, babbling brooks and simple streams have long since dried up, nothing sleeps in their beds now but desiccated earth and bleached bones. Yet what is to be done? The gods sleep, so it must be the mortals, feeble though they are, pitiful even, to whom the task must fall. Who can restore the wild woods to their glorious, arboreal splendour? Who can rebuild Arcadia and wake the sleeping gods? Who but you?* * *As you explore the Vulcanverse you will forge friendships, meet companions, make enemies - all of whom have long memories and will help or hinder you throughout your adventures. In this vast open world you will find hundreds of amazing quests, make choices with lasting consequences, win glory, cheat death, and face challenges at every turn.Every decision is in your hands. Start in any book, be whoever you choose, go anywhere you please, and do anything you want. The only limit is your imagination.

\"\"Karina, wake up. There's water everywhere!\" Cindy's panicked voice echoed through the dream, pulling her back to current history--to being lost in the Amazon, separated from Joe and the rest of her friends, lost and alone except for a young child who now depended on her to make life-preserving choices. Water splashed in Karina's face, reinforcing the urgency of the situation. Acting responsibly had always been a problem for fourteen-year-old Karina. Even though she had become a talented ultralight airplane pilot and had been chosen for a special school project in the Amazon, Karina seemed adept at finding ways for getting into trouble. Quick to anger, she often reacted emotionally without fully considering the consequences for her actions. Now an unauthorized flight had stranded Karina deep within the rainforest on an island in a wildly flooding river. Turbulent water crashed against the improvised shelter; she had only seconds to make her most responsible decision ever--a life-or-death decision. Karina grabbed seven-year-old Cindy and made her choice, hoping it was the right one and praying it wouldn't be her last.
