There is a blog called Greyson's Gift. The mother of Greyson has organized an effort for families dealing with fetal or newborn demise. She says: "I am looking for your help. Hospitals all across the country are in need of small, very small, baby blankets. In cases of fetal demise, babies are so tiny, even the smallest nursery blanket is much too big to wrap around their tiny bodies. I know how parents feel when they are presented with their tiny baby, for the first and last time. Having to deal with a large blanket that doesn't fit, is a distraction. And, unnecessary. If you can sew or crotchet/knit, would you please help me to supply blankets for these mothers?" What they need: 12" x 12" and 24" x 24" flannel receiving blankets, in small pink, baby blue, white, and yellow prints. Use your best judgement, we don't want the prints of the blankets to detract from very small babies. The blankets also need to be double layered. Hi! It's been a very warm and sunny Sunday here in my neck of the woods. The past couple of days have been really busy with things non-craft related, which has me itching to sit at my sewing machine again. However, between things, I've been sewing on faces and stitching up stuffing holes on these pretty handmade bunny and kitty rattles. They make the most pleasant sound. I love to give them a shake as I'm embroidering. They'll be on my table at the Bloomington Handmade Market coming up in just a few short weeks. (two to be exact!) I'm headed out for a walk in this early spring weather!

Preparedness is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as... "the fact of being ready for something : the state of being prepared." This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend a Relief Society Super Saturday all about Emergency Preparedness. It was great to be able to visit with the other sisters in the ward and give each other ideas on how to be prepared. I was excited to be able to share some of the things I have put together for my family. I thought I would share them on here also, as well as share some of the other ideas that were shared that day. The "Go Bag": The idea is to have one of these "Go Bags" for each family member and have them in their rooms where it will be easy to grab and go. Here is a link to the posts I have done on getting one ready. Important Information Binder: This page should be filled out for each family member and put in a small binder or three ponged folder and put in their "Go Bag". Other items that should also be put in the binder are: -Make copies of Birth Certificate. -Make copies of Social Security Card -Make copies of Adult ID's such as Driver's License -Make copies of Immunization Records -Make copies of Marriage License -Make copies of Current Medication Labels and directions -Copy of Family picture (this would be beneficial to have if separated or even just as a comfort item) -Child ID/Safety kit (There are many sites out their that offer these kits for free. Also, a lot of times in children's picture packets from the school they will include one. Some kits even include a swab for DNA. It is important to have one where you can provide a picture, a description of your child, and fingerprints.) ***Once you get one, do it*** ***A great idea one of my friend gave was to laminate all of these items, so they will be protected.*** Hot Pad First Aid Kit: These cute little first aid kits have been around for a while. I made my first one probably over 10 years ago. They are so easy to make and so handy!! I had one in my car and someone like it so much they stole it. They smell wonderful! The wonderful sister who put the Super Saturday together had all of the holes drilled for us already. It looks like you drill a hole in the lid large enough for the plunger to move freely through. Then you drill little holes in the plunger. Portable Potty: I love these! My mom gave these adorable (and useful) little treat bags to her Primary class awhile back. We have loved watching the views and pins grow on this Primary Handouts Update, specifically these little Good Samaritan First Aid kits. My Mom wanted me to post the printables so everyone could easily print them out. She filled these adorable little bags with a few fun treats, and added a little note to each one. Which also went a long with the poem she included. I absolutely love how she puts so much thought into her lessons. I know the kids feel so special when they get these handouts! She gave this handout for Lesson 37-I'll serve Jesus Christ by serving others, but really this could be used for a variety of things and groups! Everyone could use some "aid" sometime in their lives! :) Like I mentioned before my mom taught this lesson to her primary class, if you're interested the specific lesson is Primary 3 Lesson 37: I'll Serve Jesus Christ by Serving Others you can find the lesson outline she followed on LDS.org HERE or in the book Primary3-CTR B. My Mom couldn't find a little candy watch so she made her own-she bought some little candy bracelets and added a clipart she found online for the watch head. She's so creative, I'm telling ya! If you plan on using this lesson you could have each child in the class pull something out of one bag and read the attached note until you have read them all as a class. I think every little girl this age LOVES baby dolls. With 5 girls we have so many dolls in this house it is not even funny! The baby idea was an obvious choice for a quiet book page, but I still wanted to keep it simple. (Some of the other pages were wearing me out!) I ended up making
Lots has changed around here. Career changes, cross-country moves, new grandbabies, new homes, and different callings has left this blog on the back-burner. A blog's a tough beast to keep up with. At times I've wondered if my blog drove me to come up with activities that weren't necessarily what the young women needed. And I hated that feeling. After lots of consideration, I've decided the best avenue for my personal progress ideas is through Etsy. It allows me to create without necessarily being in a young women calling. Also, I don't have to be near my computer to send files, because frankly, I'm not very good at that. I realize Etsy is not for every one. But if you'd like to check it out, here's the link. So I bought these ceramic pots and metal garden angels at the local $1 store and spray painted them all white. I then printed gold Relief Society emblems and glued them behind the heads for halos. Wa-la! "the Errand of Angels is given to Women"... Oh, and for table toppers, I bought 2 rolls of shipping wrap paper (at the $1 store) and cut out scalloped squares. That so far is the most inexpensive decor I have done for a party/meeting. . We made these cute little sock dolls that new mothers use to comfort their babies if they are too little or sick and can not go home yet. The Mom, Dad or caregiver can place the doll inside their clothing, close to the skin and the doll will soak up their scent. The next time they visit the baby, the doll is place next to the baby to snuggle and/or prop tubes and the baby will feel the comfort and smell of their loved one. The dolls are very easy to make so I've included the instructions if you would like to make some yourself and donate to your local hospital.
