Malabrigo Worsted is incredibly soft, has excellent stitch definition and is available in an amazing amount of unbelievably beautiful colors - what's not to love? Malabrigo Worsted is perfect for cozy, comfy garments and accessories. Malabrigo yarns are hand-dyed so like all hand-dyed yarns, colors vary from dye lot to dye lot and may also vary from within the same lot. Colors that you receive may look different from the colors shown below. To ensure random color distribution, we recommend that you work from two balls at once, alternating a few rows from each ball. Be sure to purchase enough yarn to complete your project. Each bag is a different dye lot. Malabrigo Worsted is produced in bags of 10. This was so enjoyable to knit! The fancy herringbone stitch, from Barbara G. Walker's indispensable Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, is easy and quick. It makes for a squishy fabric that looks lovely on both sides, perfect for an effortless cowl or scarf. I used an economical and surprisingly dreamy cotton, dyed with tumeric powder. CADMIUM COWL Materials: -350yds worsted weight yarn. I used Universal Yarns Cotton Supreme, white, dyed with about 2tbsp tumeric powder. -US #8 (5mm) needles. -Waste yarn for provisional cast on. Tension: 4.75sts/1” in stitch pattern. Finished size: 14" x 35" Psso2: pass the slipped stitch over 2sts. Slip all stitches purl-wise. With preferred provisional method, cast on 67sts. You can find instructions for my favorite provisional method here. Purl one row. Fancy Herringbone Stitch (multiple of 3 + 1, repeat in brackets): R1 (RS): Slip 1, k3, {yo, slip 1, k2, psso2} to last 3sts, k3. R2 (WS): Slip 1, k2, p1, {yo, slip 1, p2, psso2} to last 3sts, k3. Repeat R1-2 until cowl measures 35” or desired length. Work R1 once more. Next row: k3, purl to last 3sts, k3. Remove waste yarn from provisional cast on, placing live stitches on a second needle. Graft ends together with a 3-needle bind off or kitchener stitch. You can find my directions for kitchenering a provisional cast-on here. Make sure you do this a bit tight, to match the tension of the fancy herringbone stitch. If you prefer, omit the provisional cast on, begin and bind off in the usual way, and seam. One of the best ways to cast on stitches for 1×1 or 2×2 ribbing is to use the long tail tubular (also known as Italian) cast on. It is the type of cast on that forms a lovely edge looking like columns of stitches flowing from one side of the work to the other. We’ve […]

Inspired by Game of Thrones, the amber yarn I used alongside the flowing slipped stitches reminded me of House Tully of Riverrun. This is a simple yet striking hat that will look great on men or women. The slipped stitch pattern adds texture and interest while the bulky weight makes it a very quick knit, perfect for last minute gifts. The ribbing incorporates slipped stitches to echo the rest of the hat. Sizing: Pattern is for 3 sizes: S (fits 19”), M (fits 22”) and L (fits 24”).
I made Molly a cat hoodie quite some time ago. Jason and I thought RapCat (checkers’ commercials) was just too ridiculous and therefore, pretty funny. We invented a synario where RapCat was Molly’s secret lover and it was a long standing, pretty bizzare, joke. We even joked about Molly wearing RapCat’s hoodie, you know, the blue and blue one. We laughed so hard about it…. and then I made one for her and we laughed some more. And the really funny thing is she doesn’t mind wearing it at all! Now I know that a lot of cats would have serious objections with any kind of hoodie being put on them, even if knit with the most love. So some other ideas for the hoodie - Big Panda Plushies, A willing stout puppy dog (a little pug maybe?), you get the idea :) It just happened so well that when I woke up this morning snow was covering the ground. Perfect! Jason and I slipped the hoodie on and took her outside. She was actually really curious about all the snow. I suppose it’s been a year since the last time she saw it.
