Very good condition. Ship worldwide with tracking and insured shipping. // Karel Appel (1921 – 2006) was a Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet. He started painting at the age of fourteen and studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in the 1940s. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde movement CoBrA in 1948. He was also an avid sculptor and has had works featured in MoMA, in a number of galleries, including the Anita Shapolsky Gallery in New York City, Galerie Lelong in Paris, Galerie Ulysses in Vienna, and Gallery LL in Amsterdam.
About The Artwork The object is assembled from old wooden parts and painted with acrylic paint. The work is oriented in its design to outsider art, naive art and art brut and also integrates street art elements. In the sense of a cultural exaptation, it is attempted to create something new by taking up traditional pictorial means and art forms. By consciously referencing the work of earlier artists, it is shown that artistic creation always builds on previous achievements and thus each work of art, despite its uniqueness, can only occupy a temporal corridor, which is marked by both a before and an after. On the back of the object is attached a hanger, so it can be hung immediately. This piece is hand signed and marked E.P.I. (Editions Press Impression) aside the edition of 50, plus 7 artist proofs, 7 H.C. proofs, and 1 Museum proof. This piece measures 30.5 x 28 x 14 inches. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, which is attached to the bottom of the piece, and is hand signed by the artist and the Editions Press director.
