Hey, hoppers! Popping in to share a project I made earlier in the week for Jillian's teacher's birthday! (Perfect for today's hop at Papertrey!) She loves this gal...and this gal loves owls...and her favorite color is pink! She is an adult, though...so I used lots of neutrals with little pops of pink in the fabrics and felts I chose for a little pillow (maybe not so little...around a foot wide and an inch or two taller). My PTI dies (and some Spellbinders) made it easy and fun! The Spellbinder and Funky Flower dies were used for the eyes... The Limitless Layers Heart dies were used just as they are...along with the Heart to Heart flower die... And the large scallop die was used for layers of 'feathers' on the tummy... And here's the full feathered friend... It was a bit of a risky project...at least the way I did it. I didn't have a pattern so I made one, and stitched it up with scrap fabric. Wasn't pleased with that shape, and modified the pattern, but didn't re-stitch to check. I just hoped that I had made the necessary changes. Then everything was sewn onto the front before stitching the two pieces together and stuffing. That was the risky part. Stuffing does change the shape...it would have been very disappointing to find out I didn't like the stuffed shape once all that work had been done. All in all, I was pretty pleased, though. I would probably modify it slightly if I made another, but her teacher was surprised and delighted at a handmade gift, so...it's all good! I did use a metal shim for the fabric die cutting, but that all went very smoothly and took a lot of work out of the designing. Hope you like!!!;) I have a couple other projects I'm hoping to finish and share later...but my family may have other ideas;) Have fun hopping, and thanks so much for visiting! ~geri~
Can't believe that I haven't posted for a month. Things are busy at my place these days. My sister Helena and I are taking care of mum, and in between times playing with fabric, decorating cakes and looking after my Etsy shop. Helena has been very productive and creative making "One of a Kind" selections. These are selections of fabrics arranged in a way that tells a story, or at least, suggests a title. Some of my favourite ones are below. There are a bunch more in my Etsy shop. Crop Circles la Piece de la Resistance Snowstorm The Heart of the Ocean Midnight Bloom Both mum and my youngest grandchild Lauren had birthdays in May. Mum celebrated her 97th and Lauren her 1st birthday. Here are some photos of our birthday parties. Lots of help to blow out the candle! Elijah helping to serve. Mum looking good at 97. Joshie and Jack. Josh wishing he was old enough to have one too. "Now that was delicious!" "Yellow is the perfect colour for me" I made Lauren a Baby Heirloom Block to celebrate her birth and entered in Crazy Quilts are Quilts Too on Pigtales & Quilts Blog. It didn't place, but I found that the deadline was good to keep me motivated, and the fact that it was a competition encouraged neater and more creative work!

I am obsessed. I'm not sure if I feel it is a problem because I am having too much fun with it. All 2 inches or smaller.
Just a few months ago, I received an order for four chairs: two armless and two with arms. That’s typically how orders start, and my clients and I enter into an exploratory state of designing something interesting for their space. Little do we ever know where we will end up, but after trial and error…

Actually Glitter Market is not a week, just one sensational Saturday but we love to use the whole week before Glitter Market to preview our talented vendors and all of their goods you will be wanting next Saturday, May 3rd. Glitter Market will be held at Paper Crown this year since we have a new wonderful room upstairs. I don't think we have had Market at the store since the first Glitter Market, 5ish years ago! It's a fun day of shopping, seeing old friends and tasty treats. This spring we will have some veteran Glitter Market vendors in addition to some soon to be favorite new comers! Doors will open at 10 am but the line usually starts forming at 8 am. For the most part, it is a cash only market; however, it is up to each vendor to decide if they want to take checks and a few might have the ability to take credit cards. We want you to be aware so you don't miss out on that special something. Our very first sneak peek is from a veteran Glitter Market vendor and the artists furthest from home, Colette Copeland. Colette is a Canadian artist and if you follow her blog, http://a-bird-in-the-hand.blogspot.com/ or follow her in the Somerset magazines, you know she has been busy getting ready for Glitter Market. Colette has a large collection of whimsical textiles, collages, paintings and other surprises. Colette is very good to Paper Crown and has given our store a mention several times in various Somerset magazines. The most recent issue of Somerset Studio has an article on Colette and the June Sew Somerset will feature Colette's kites, inspired by last year's Glitter Market! Here's Your Chance to Learn from a Somerset Artist In addition to being a vendor, Colette has agreed to teach a palette knife painting class the Thursday before Glitter Market. You won't want to miss out on this class as Colette shares her techniques with the ladies of Paper Crown. Colette's art class is this Thursday evening, May 1 from 5:30-8:30. Cost is $60. to reserve your seat, Call Paper Crown, 405 848-2389.
