It's a series of bohemian travelers journals and I'll be teaching it in Northern California April 6th, and in Hemet Ca July 28th. If you're interested in attending let me know and I'll send an invoice. Class fee is $125. This is a class packed with techniques, so I decided to have it all day and into the evening from 9:30a-7:30pm! You will love it! Here is the description and lots of pictures. There is also a video, scroll to the end to watch. I'd like to think there is a story behind everything we collect, display or stash away, and what better way to use our collections than an artisan journal with a bohemain twist. In this class Robin will open her treasure chest of 20 plus years in paper crafting and show you as many techniques and tips as she can to create your unique story in this eclectic journal. The beauty of this class is that it is open to all types of adventurous creatives from the beginning paper crafter to scrapbookers, junk journal junkies, mixed media artists, quilters, jewelers, painters...we all have a story to tell. I invite you to bring your personal stash to create your own in this Bohemian junk journal. If journaling is not your thing, then use them as an arsenal for your personal collections or look book. We will be sewing paper, cardstock and fabric for a large part of class, but we will also cover alternatives to sewing. These journals are 8.5" tall and 4.25" wide. They can be used as an insert or on their own. This class will be LOADED with techniques, it's all day and night and only $125! Won't you join us?

Our theme this week over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is "have a heart." It's a simple little quote we've all heard, often used jokingly, but it struck me that having a heart (i.e. thinking of others and making an effort to be kind) is some pretty solid advice! Note to self: keep working on that. I started with a great new die from AALL & Create called Numberama that cuts these fantastically funky edges. Then I brushed some green-toned paint around just to get something on my background. I tore out a section of Dina Wakley's ledger paper and glued that onto my background. Then I whipped out a stencil called Water Stains and used it to add the black circle outlines. I colored the inside of the circles with white and pink paint. While that dried, I stamped some text and number images onto newsprint paper using Tim Holtz's Sideshow stamp set. I cut and tore it into random shapes. I also cut out a heart using AALL & Create's Heartnook die set. I glued the stamped text/number paper onto my background and played around with more paint, adding yellows and oranges into the mix. I also added some brown and black around the edges of the card to emphasize all those lovely loopy shapes. I hand-cut a wonky yellow letter "C" shape, then used the Heartnook die set again to cut out a quirky ring shape. I painted both of them and also painted the heart, which I added more color to after I took this picture. I used Tim Holtz's Seasonal Scribbles stamp set to stamp the word "Love." I also scribbled around the inner edges of my card with Distress watercolor pencils. All that was left was assembly and wah-la! This card was done (including a classy white glue blob on the left side of the heart that I didn't notice until I saw this picture. Ha!). Here are the supplies I used that you can find at Simon Says Stamp: AALL & Create: Numberama Die Set AALL & Create: Heartnook Die Set Tim Holtz: Sideshow Stamp Set Tim Holtz: Seasonal Scribbles Stamp Set Distress Watercolor Pencils: Set 1 Dina Wakley Ledger Paper: Set 2 Fairy Hugs: Water Stain Stencil Sizzix Big Shot Strathmore Mixed Media Paper Dina Wakley Acrylic Paint: White, Fir, Lime, Ocean, Stoked, Carnation, Olive, Lemon, Umber, Black Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink We're excited to see your heart-inspired creations this week! Dave working in his journal during lunch at the Brandywine River Museum. It always seems that I'm writing about how busy I am, but this fall has been one of the busiest. So the JFJ Challenge has been put on hold again as Dave and I present at fall conferences and finish up the manuscript for the new book. I hope to start it back up in November or December, but for the time being there is just so much going on. So far, we have presented for the Delaware and North Carolina Art Education Associations, and we are scheduled to present at the Virginia Art Ed. Conference in a couple of weeks. We gave a well-received presentation to about 65 art teachers from Delaware at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, PA, and we got to tour the museum which features a large collection of the Wyeth's work including N.C., Andrew, and Jamie. We want to thank Jen Boland for setting up the opportunity. Dave at the Mint Museum in Charlotte In Charlotte, we presented about the approaches, applications, and assessments of the visual journal in the classroom at all levels. We also presented a hands-on workshop to a small, but enthusiastic group. And Dave gave an update for his 100 Visual Journals for North Carolina Project. But our travels and presentations are not over yet. In November, watch for us at the VAEA Conference in Roanoke where we present four different times. Our hands-on workshops are already nearly filled, and we are looking forward to sharing new ideas during two general presentations. Dave sharing his journal during the hands-on workshop in Charlotte. All through this travel and presenting, we have been working on the manuscript for the new book. We sent off the finished manuscript yesterday and will be tying up some loose ends throughout the week. We can't wait for it to hit bookshelves in 2012. And if this wasn't enough we have Jerrt's Artarama's Art of the Carolinas coming up the week after the VAEA Conference, November 12-13, where we present two 3 hour workshops. On Saturday evening we present Visual Journals: Personal Mythologies, and Sunday Morning, we present Visual Journals: Compulsions and Obsessions. If you are in the Raleigh, NC area, we still have room in both workshops. We would love to pack each one. That's it for now. I just wanted to get a quick update out there.
