A beautiful Art Deco cross stitch pattern of Josephine Baker portrait wearing her famous banana dance costume. She was a singer, dancer, actress & civil rights activist. Josephine Baker (1906-1975) was an American-born French dancer, singer and actress who came to be known as the "Bronze Venus". She was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture, Zouzou (1934), or to become a world-famous entertainer. Baker refused to perform for segregated audiences in the United States and is noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 60s. In 1963, she marched in the March on Washington alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. and in 1968 she was offered unofficial leadership in the Movement in the United States by Coretta Scott King, following Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination. After many days of consideration, Baker declined, saying her children were 'too young to lose their mother." Through her lifetime, she adopted 12 children, which she called "The Rainbow Tribe". A truly remarkable woman. Our charts are unlike any other available! Each color is on a separate page that only shows a symbol where that color is to be stitched. »Josephine« gehört in jedes Bücherregal!
