This rare haute couture 1950s silk mulberry swing jacket is by Paris fashion house Jean Dessès and is of beautiful quality with a timelessly elegant aesthetic. In truly excellent, gently worn condition, this piece has aged well with no faults of any note. It features wide set three quarter length sleeves, a lapel collar and is designed to be worn open without fastenings. The rich toned silk flares out generously from the bust and from shoulders at the reverse of the jacket to create a full circle swing, with a central inwards facing pleat to direct the fluidity of movement between the shoulder blades. It is immaculately lined throughout in matching mulberry silk organza lining. Beautifully versatile, would best suit sizes US size 2-8, UK size 6-12. BUST 42 in. (106.68 cm) WAIST 48 in. (121.92 cm) HIP 50 in. (127 cm) LENGTH 42.5 in. (107.95 cm)
Vintage 1950's Vogue Paris Original sewing pattern features designer Jean Dessès. Misses' One Piece Dress Slim skirt joins the bodice at the side front and across back waistline. Center back zipper closing below high round neckline. Pleated or contour belt passes through the looped extension of the bodice front. Below and above elbow length sleeves with detachable under cuffs. Misses' Size 14; Bust 34; Waist 26; Hip 36. Pattern is cut, counted and complete. Envelope is in fair condition; several short edge cracks; one larger, neatly mended tear; color aging. Pattern pieces are color aged. Undated 1950's. That show is centered around a major collection acquired by LACMA a few years ago; now, the museum has just made another major acquisition that picks up roughly where the last left off.
