A large unique faience figure in the shape of a rooster. Handmade by the artist Janine Janet in the 1950s. Decorated with cream coloured glaze as well as greyish brown glazed feather motifs and decor. Signed Janine Janet. Bought and with paper label from Illums Bolighus, Copenhagen. As an artist, Janine Janet was primarily known for her art installations and sculptural objects made in collaboration with Parisian fashion houses, for which she created unique window decorations and sculptures. She also worked as a costume designer, and she was thus quite versatile as an artist working with both sculptures, ceramics and costumes. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution less

. The windows of 10 Avenue George V, BALENCIAGA ,were for many seasons, graced with the fantastic sculptures by Janine Janet made just for Balenciaga. Balenciaga let Janine Janet have free reign to her fantasies-only stipulating that the windows never appear commercial. Within the three windows, perfumes or other hints of Balenciaga were discreetly placed by Janet. The effect of the windows was to suggest the art of the couturier not the production of-just imagine. The success of the windows was evident in their longevity. Many of Janet's works would stay in place for a year or more. Her first windows in 1952 were representations of Air, Earth and Water. She employed feathers, arrows, sculpted birds, sheaves of wheat, straw hats and flowers eluding to the elaborate work of the famous silk weavers of the 18th century. She continued to work with Balenciaga for years. Her work can also be seen in Cocteau's. The Queen, Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher have all sailed on the QE2 - but while it has been destined for great things, for years there has been no news about the future of the grand cruise liner since it was retired and docked in Dubai
