You cannot beat a heart shape in embroidery! This heart sampler will enable you to learn how to stitch 15 basic stitches all in one beautiful piece. The finished embroidery measures 7 by 5 inches. This could be used as a lovely valentines present or help a friend to learn the basics of embroidery. The PDF includes colour suggestions, a list of the stitches and instructions.
This sashiko kit contains one Olympus brand needle, sashiko thread and one pale pink colored cloth that is pre-printed with a pattern that features sakura and kaku-shippo. The pattern washes out of the cloth with water. This is a perfect project for beginner sashiko artists. I find that these samplers are also wonderful for traveling with as they are small and do not require you to pack a large amount of supplies. The marks are also easily seen (for less than perfect lighting) and will not rub off when the cloth is folded away. This sampler kit can also be used to create a quilt block, placemat or 12 inch (30.5 cm) pillow. The entire cloth measures about 27.5 long x 13.5 wide (70 cm long x 34.3 cm wide) and can be seen in the 3rd photo. The printed portion of the cloth measures 12 inch x 12 inch (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) in size. The 100% cotton fabric is lightweight with a slightly open weave. Please refer to the last photo for the most accurate representation of the color available. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for a color comparison. This kit also comes with a packaged Olympus brand needle (photo 7) and two sashiko thread skeins. One thread is a red-pink color and the second is a purple color. Please refer to the 8th and 9th photos for the most accurate representation of the thread colors. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for a color comparison. This sampler comes with an instruction sheet HOWEVER this sheet is printed in Japanese. There is a diagram for completing the pillow project. Do NOT iron the fabric prior to removing the pre-printed pattern or the pattern may not wash out completely. To remove markings: Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly. Iron while still moist on low temperature. Place sashiko cloth face down onto folded bath towel, prior to ironing, to prevent the stitching from being flattened. This product was made in Japan. Find sashiko thread and notions here: www.etsy.com/shop/RochesterTextile?ref=seller-platform-mcnav&search_query=sashiko Please note that if you order a large number of thread or small items the shipping weight may be overestimated. Be assured that I always refund shipping cost overages of $1.00 or more. You may also wish to contact me so that I can set up a special order for you, which will have the accurate combined shipping costs. I do not charge handling or packaging fees.

Pastel Shades Today I reopened my Etsy shop and decided to sell some of my inchies. I enjoy the process of making inchies. I enjoy seeing a set come together and find new ways and new ideas to embellish them with each set I create unique. Pink & Red There are so many ways to use inchies, in bigger pieces of art, embellishing journals, bags, purses, iphone and ipad cases, jewellery making, quilts.......these are just a few, I'm sure there are many more. I'm selling them unframed to keep costs down and allow you the choice of how to use them. I will however be sending them out mounted on card, ready to be framed. The set of 16 fits nicely into a square frame available from IKEA. I have shown pictures of each set on the listings in the black and the white frames. These two sets are now up for sale and I'm hoping to get more up for sale soon. ******* Update : Pastel inchies set now SOLD but photographic prints are now available of my inchie sets in my ETSY shop. ******

This is another set of inchies I have been working on in natural colours of cream, greens & sand. I thought I would show you the whole piece before I cut it up. I stitched over the piece with some free machine embroidery in gold thread. All cut up! and ready for the next stage ......... This time I only used 12 of the 16 inchies in the arrangement. This was due to the size of frame which I had decided to use. I will post a picture of the other 4 pieces and the finished framed piece when I get a chance to photograph them, my camera battery died on me before I got any more shots. The finished piece was a gift for my Mum who celebrated her 81st birthday today we had a family lunch gathering at a nice Italian place near her home then back to hers for an assortment of desserts, coffee, wine and some 'Singstar' fun. Happy Birthday Mum x
So I laid out all my finished birdie blocks, and found that I was missing the colors red and teal. So? I made these blocks today. I have included all the colors of the rainbow, but I would like the quilt to be at lap sized quilt, so I guess I will continue to make a few more. Have a super day, each of you!! Julie

Quilters have fussy cut quilt patterns for decades to get special effects and to create secondary designs. We have two great methods now.
The card I made for Neil this Valentines day, I wanted to try a different style to the usual red hearts etc, so I went with a soft romantic feel and this Stampin' Up stamp seemed perfect I distressed all the edges of the cardstock with the edge of my scissors I received a not so subtle hint from my guy that he never gets a verse in his cards so this year I made a special effort to find some sweet words to finish the card. I kept the embellishments natural in appearance to complement the feel of the stamp. The image was coloured in with Polychromos pencils. This next project is one I completed last year but had requests to see it again, so here it is Anita, I have included some close-ups to give a clearer picture of how each twinchie has been made up. You can click on the images to make them appear larger. I have created loads of projects with twinchies - usually on cards or in frames, sometimes I have used them as the focal point of an atc, but, I decided to combine them this time with my favourite craft of all - scrapbooking, and made them into a layout of sorts, or it could be hung on the wall. Each twinchie has been made up entirely from scratch, some embossed with the Cuttlebug and they have all been inked with the 'direct to paper' technique I have kept the piece to a limited colour palette to prevent it from becoming too busy All the embellishments have either been made up from punches, some have been stamped and others are just bits and bobs I have had laying around forever. I always include hearts in projects like this, those along with words have become quite a signature style for me, not intentionally but it has just happened that way - must be something to do with being a Valentine baby. Talking of which - I had a lovely birthday yesterday. I spent the day with my wonderful friend Anita, we enjoyed lunch and shopping and as usual a belly full of laughs. Just don't mention county baskets !!! The rest of the day was spent with my family, we ate a lovely special three course meal at home and then all relaxed together for the evening. Amy had been busy planting little notes wishing me 'happy birthday' all over the house and I was still finding them as I was tidying before bed - bless her xxx Thankyou to all my family who bought me presents and gave me money to treat myself. Neil bought me a gorgeous bronze Mulberry keyring in the shape of a solid heart as my Valentines treat - he presented it to me saying that I would always have his heart with me wherever I went - awwwwwwwwwwww !!! For my birthday he bought me a silver Thomas Sabo charm bracelet, he definitely is a fab gift finder - it was just what I had been secretly wishing for. I must also say thanks to Anita, Nicki, Trish, Margaret, Chrissie, Victoria, Paulien , Helena and Janet who all bought me such lovely thoughtful gifts and thankyou to everyone who sent me cards, I had such a lovely day, but by far the best part was the news I received today, I can't share it yet as it is a secret but it made me cry with happiness - life is good xxx

Drum roll please... Ta~daaaaaa! My homage to the great outdoors. Purple mountains majesty, the forest and a river tying it all together. We love to go camping! The Sierra Mountains of Northern California is our place of choice, it's technically called the El Dorado Nationial Forest. We try to go a few times each summer, but it's never enough. In these squares I wanted to play around with the idea of "painting" with thread, and be more free handed. To fill in every square milimeter. I sketched in the shape of the mountains, the river and the tent for spacing and perspective, the rest was added as I went along. I'm really happy with 34 & 35, I wanted to go out with a bang, so I tried to pack in a lot of detail in these two square inches. I think I did all right, what do you think? Here is my completed 35 square grid... I wish I would have taken a picture with a quarter or dime lying next to one of the squares. Friends and family who've seen the piece in person all say the same thing "Wow, it's so tiny, it looks so big on the computer." It's true. I think that's why I've been so critical of my own work, because when it gets blown up so big on the computer screen, I can *clearly* see all of my mistakes. It's funny, my eyes definitley see my good & bad days. Days when I felt good and went in with confidence, I produced stitching that I'm happiest with, days when I felt lost or rushed, not so much. Over all I'd have to say that now that the piece is finished, I'm more or less happy with it on the whole, even the squares I didn't like originally (fan, wreath, sunflower). I haven't framed it yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to share a picture or two. Speaking of pictures, are you ready?!? Here are all 35 squares all in one spot. SQUARE 1 SQUARE 2 SQUARE 3 SQUARE 4 SQUARE 5 SQUARE 6 SQUARE 7 SQUARE 8 SQUARE 9 SQUARE 10 SQUARE 11 SQUARES 12 & 13 SQUARE 14 SQUARE 15 SQUARE 16 SQUARE 17 SQUARE 18 SQUARE 19 SQUARE 20 SQUARE 21 SQUARE 22 SQUARE 23 SQUARE 24 SQUARE 25 SQUARE 26 SQUARE 27 SQUARE 28 SQUARE 29 SQUARE 30 SQUARE 31 SQUARE 32 SQUARE 33 SQUARES 34 & 35 SQUARES 1~35 Whew! That's a lot of stitchin! Thank you all so much for hanging in there with me, I really don't think I could have done with without all your kind comments, feedback and advice along the way. I love emboirdery, but you bloggy girls made this fun! I enjoyed sharing with you all, and those of you who played along, I have LOVED looking at your squares along this journey too! You stitchy sisters ROCK! Are you ready for another stitch-a-long?? Check this out! Counting My Blessings Here we go again! A slower pace this time, but I'm game! Who else is in?? Humongous hugs to each and every one of you! ~oxo~ Lisa

Yesterday the fabric inchies from the latest trade on Aus_NZ Quilters (a yahoo group) arrived and they are just gorgeous. I've temporarily stuck them all on an A4 piece of black cardstock so that I can have them on my sewing room wall while I ponder a longer term mounting solution - don't they look fabulous altogether?!. This lot are "beige" (lovely wide interpretation!) and they are joining the blue and metallic sets which I have also mounted the same way. The next round is themed "plastic" so that is going to be very interesting!! Needless to say we are all looking at everything around us with different eyes now - I think there will be some very inventive additions of plastic (melted, laminated, distorted and plain!!) to these mini fabric quilts. I'm planning on trying several of theh techniques from the "Hot Textiles" book which I just love. PS. I managed to get very busy this week and have barely been on the computer so if you are waiting for a reply from me about anything please know that I am not ignoring you and will get to it this weekend.
In the Sunwoven Tank, I again collaborated with Erin Barrett of Sunwoven Studios. Her weavings are what set this design into motion. This pattern combines our Spun Cloud yarn, our Wildflower yarn and one of our regular Mini Skein Sampler Kits. I love the open drop stitch back detail and the creativity you have here to play with color and yarn! The color shown here is French Vanilla Spun Cloud/Wallflower Wildflower Yarn, and a Mustard Mini Skein Kit. The second sample shown here is Honeysuckle Spun Cloud, Wisteria Wildflower yarn and a Mauve Mini Skein Kit.
