Since my childhood, drawing has always been a passion, but when I discovered photography, I thought that the combination of these two passions would allow me to give free rein to my imagination. In this series “The sketch of a life”, I wanted to illustrate my life, like my sketches gave birth to each of his actions or by the intervention of someone I are close (for exemple in “sketch your mentor” with the intervention of my grandmother who taught me in the drawing), or events that have been important to me (like in “sketch the life” with the birth my daughter “Cataleya”), but also with something a little more humorous (in “Catch & Sketch” for example with the intervention of my friend Cal Redback, or in “sketch and fight” with a battle of two artists with each his technique).
This template goes with the following blog post from 'Creative Elementary School Counselor'. http://creativeelementaryschoolcounselor.blogspot.com/2016/07/i-cant-imagine-life-without.html The blog did not provide a template for the activity, so I created my own template. This is NOT my original idea.
We started our Sunday School Creation: Day 2 – God made the Sky lesson by revising the previous lesson. “After God made the light, God looked out over the world and there was water E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E!” I told my kiddos. “I don’t know about you, but I’m not a good swimmer at all.” I asked my little dears […]

A couple of weeks ago we visited our nearby Science Center and Chuck fell in love with a small space shuttle toy. Of course, the wheels in my head began whirring and I knew that we could easily transform a paper towel roll into our very own rocket ship. So after a couple days of planning, cutting, and painting, we are now the proud owners of two cardboard roll space shuttles: Cardboard Space Shuttle Craft Want a ride to the moon on your very own cardboard roll space shuttle? Then keep reading to see how we made them (template included)! Materials to Make Cardboard Roll Rocket Ship: Cardboard space shuttle template Cardboard paper towel roll Cereal Box Scissors Pen Paint Paint Brushes Permanent marker Glue Mod Podge Sponge Brush Scrap paper Tray ( to hold paint and glue) Optional: Straw, tape, and yarn (if you want it to slide around) Directions to Make Cardboard Roll Space Shuttle: 1. Print out the template. Cut out the body/wing piece and the rudder piece. Trace them onta cereal box and cut them out. Two sets of pieces- One for my large shuttle and then a set of modified ones for a smaller roll 2. Then, cut out three slits in you paper towel roll. Cut out two approximately 2 1/2 " slits on both sides of your paper towel roll. Then, cut out one approximately 2 " slit on the top of your paper towel roll. (Confused? See the template for a diagram.) 3. Slide your body/wing piece through your cardboard roll. Its slits should slide nicely into your cardboard roll's 2 1/2" side slits. Then, slide your rudder piece in. The rudder's top slit should slide into your cardboard roll's 2" slit, and the bottom slit should slide into your body/wing's slit. (Again, the template makes this much clearer.) If the slits don't exactly match, cut them longer as necessary. Also, you can always add a dab of glue to make your pieces stay in place. 4. Once everything fits nicely, pull your pieces apart and paint them! We painted the bottom of the body/wing portion black. Then, after that dried, we painted everything else white. Then, I added the black details while Chuck slept. 5. I knew that Chuck would be playing with this toy, so we coated it with a layer of Mod Podge to protect our paint job. (If your kid has perpetually sticky hands like mine, I definitely recommend this step. It's always a bummer to see stains on your lovely paint job.) 6. Slide the pieces together and then play! (Once again, if the slits don't quite fit together because of your paint or Mod Podge, just make them longer or add glue.) No rocket fuel needed, these space shuttles are sparked by love and fueled by imagination! Want to make your cardboard rocket ships really fly? Ahh, I see you want to take it the next step further! Yes. We can do it! Tape a straw to the top of your rocket ship. String it through a piece of yarn. Then, tie a piece of yarn across the room. (I tied it from one door handle to another.) Slide it along the yarn to make it fly! Cardboard Space Shuttle from Pink Stripey Socks on Vimeo. Chuck really loved helping me making the space shuttle. (We both painted in white and covered it in Mod Podge to protect our paint job.) And I had a lot of fun designing the project too. Isn't it neat when a couple of simple materials are transformed into something really magical? Until next time, happy crafting! Psst- the fun doesn't have to stop. Spring has FINALLY sprung in Atlanta…and it has brought with it a week + of rainy days and more POLLEN than can be imagined…my kids haven’t been outside ALL week! Thank goodness for GoNOODLE indoor recess and the relase of Pop Se Ko 2.0! “My hands are high, my feet are low…BUT outside, outside, we can’t go!” So, being stuck inside for some dreary days has meant I was desperate for some ways to brighten up our classroom and hallways…with bright paper and math crafts of course! My sweet, second grade owls have been studying arrays, as an introduction to repeated addition and beginning multiplication. I love this unit, because it is so hands-on and visual! Based on second grade Common Core standards, we are really just working on repeated addition sentences, but of course, I have many students who were ready to write some basic multiplication sentences too! To fully master this standard, students are also required to partition rectangles into correct arrays, using equal shares! We made Arrays of Sunshine after seeing the cute idea from Teaching with Maddeness. This activity is perfect for having students practice partitioning a rectangle into equal shares that model an array! Then, we made skyscrapers, with “window arrays”…I LOVE how our Array City turned out! This activity was perfect for students to see that there is usually more than 1 way to represent the same array! Finally, we went on an Array Scavenger Hunt all over our school with our iPads. I paired my kids up, had them search the school and “snap” quick pictures of real-life arrays. After we finished our hunt, I had my kids import their pictures into the FREE APP- PicWall. Through the use of PicWall, students were able to label all of their arrays with the correct corresponding repeated addition sentence. Then, they sent me their finished projects using another FREE APP called SHOWBIE! By the end of the day, I had all of my students’ Array Hunt Projects in one place to check and print! This was an AWESOME way to integrate technology AND for students to see that math truly is all around them. Interested in a “low-prep” game for your students to practice using and identify Arrays during math centers or groups? Check out this Arrays Memory Games in my TPTstore --there are actually 2 versions (multiplication sentences & repeated addition sentences) included in this set! Two games for under $4.00--what a steal! Hootfully yours! Lindsay, The Owl Teach
