Bessie Pease Gutmann - Art Gallery of complete Illustrations from the First Edition of the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, published in 1907.
Bessie Pease Gutman was an American artist and illustrator, noted for her paintings of infants and young children. During the early 1900s she was one of the better-known magazine and book illustrators in the United States. These tiles are in sturdy solid wood frames and in excellent used condition. The images are copyrighted by Gutman & Gutman but, based on the stamp on the back of one of the tiles, are produced by Kimberly Enterprises, which produces other similar tiles. The tiles themselves are 6"x4" and are in portrait orientation. With the frames are 7.25" by 5.75". These would be perfect an a child's bedroom or decorating a hallway outside a child's room.

Today, I celebrate my favorite kind of pink..., (baby pink.) The other day I had the delight of seeing a collection of prints by American 20th century artist Bessie Pease Gutmann. CG's Mom collected her art over many years, she was a very big fan, and I can see why... I have NEVER ever come across another artist that had the obvious love and adoration of children and babies. Her paintings and sketches are so very dear and so genuinely filled with love...., take a look at these... I don't know how much cute I can take (when it comes to children - lots actually!)... Gutmann had three children of her own, who often modeled for her work. She had a very successful career as an illustrator for many magazines during the early part of the 20th century, but her work lost its appeal around the time of world war II... Sadly most of her originals have disappeared, but what's left of her art is gaining popularity again..., I can see why... Here's a few of my favorites.. Artist and Illustrator - Bessie Pease Gutman was well known in the early 1900s for her paintings of babies and young children and magazine and book illustrations. VGVC * Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description. Remember, "vintage" is not new. My items are pre-loved and may show signs of age/wear.

Bessie Pease Gutmann “Television” #821 Color print of small girl watching TV, in a vertical portrait design. #821 by Gutmann & Gutmann Inc., NY. Paper is showing some browning/aging on extreme borders. The print has been in its pkg (cardboard and plastic) since the print was purchased from an antique store in the 90’s. Although the original pictures were done in the 30’s & 40’s, other print runs were done by Gutmann & Guttman at later times and I am unable to document the actual age of this piece. Print is 21” x 14 “ Actual subject is 13 3/16” x 10.5”
