Happy Weekend Everyone! I know several of you are familiar with the Tri-Shutter Fold card and like myself, most of you have probably found the directions over on Splitcoast Stamper. BUT ... I have had several requests for it and since there are folks who don't belong to SCS ... I thought I'd share it here on my blog with you. I have made several of this type of card for this fall's craftshow ... it always carries that WOW! factor. LET'S GET STARTED! You can created TWO Tri-Shutter cards from ONE 12x12 sheet of cardstock (at least 80# weight or more is best for this style). For your base you will need to cut your 12 x 12 paper at 5-1/2" x 12". Then with your 12" length across your Scor Pal, score down at 2", 4", 8", 10". Next you will need to TURN your paper, and 1-1/2" in from each side you will CUT between the 2" & 10" Score Lines. (HINT: I score my line first ... then use my craft knife and cut down through the score line.) Now accordion fold your score lines ... REVERSE the fold on the middle panel ... It will look like this, looking DOWN on it ... Now it's time to choose & cut your design panels. (HINT: I have made myself a template and marked the dimensions for the inside panels on each section ... that way I don't have to read over again & again from my notes or remeasure each time.) I had a friend (waving Hi to Bette!) ask me about the tri-shutter card I made for the guys with fishing as the theme ... so, that is the one I will showcase for you today. (Keeping in mind my tutorial shows BLUE cardstock as the base but that was only because the color would show up on camera better than white.) (Fishing embellishments are from Archiver's) So there you have it! These are so easy to make and SO MUCH FUN! You'll be hooked on them (like me!) in no time at all! LOL!! Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and if you make one, please let me know ... I'D LOVE TO SEE IT! Have a fabulous weekend! HUGS Darlene

All the excitement of an exploding card is in the folded insert. When the card is opened, the insert unfolds to a larger size than the card revealing the message or image inside. They are great for large events where lots of people want to sign the card. 1. Start with a large, square piece of heavy paper. To determine the size, decide on how big you want your finished card to be and then double it. For example, I wanted a 51/2" x 51/2" card, so my paper measures 11" x 11". If you want a 4" x 4" card then you will need an 8" x 8" piece of paper, if you want a 6" x 6" card then you will need a 12" x 12" piece of paper, and so on. 2. Stamp your sentiment and any decorative elements you want. I need plenty of room for people to write messages in my card so I only printed a Happy Birthday greeting in the centre. 3. Time to start folding! Begin by bringing the bottom right hand corner up to the top left hand corner, creating a diagonal fold. 4. Open it out again then bring the bottom left hand corner up to the top right hand corner creating another diagonal fold. Press firmly with your bone folder. 5. You'll now have two diagonal valley folds on your insert. 6. Turn your insert over so the words are face down on your desk. Fold it horizontally by bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge as shown below. Open it out once again. 7. Now take the two side edges and press them toward each other. Your insert will fold along the lines you created to form a triangle shape. 8. Fold the points of the triangle to the centre of the insert, as shown in the photos below. Use the previous folds as measuring guides. 9. Fold the other point in the same manner, then flip the insert over and do it again on the other side. 10. Open your insert to reveal all the fold lines you created. 11. Pinch each corner and fold toward the centre creating a mountain fold. 12. Now fold the insert. The paper should bend along all the creases you made. 13. Now we're ready to adhere it inside the card blank. Apply some double sided tape to both sides of the insert as shown in the photos below. 14. Measure and mark the centre point on the inside of your card. 15. Adhere the insert into your card, lining the point up with the centre mark and keeping the edges of the insert flush with the edges of the card. 16. Adhere the other side by removing the tape and closing the card. 17. Decorate the front of your card, double checking that the orientation of the insert is correct... you don't want it to be upside down!

It's time for another sketch! This time drawn by Chrissie. Jen For my card this week I decided to make a little scene using the kite and cloud from Clearly Besotted's Sky's The Limit set. It's finished off with the Congrats word die. Anne I used the Stampin' Up Build a Bird punch, cutting the birds from kraft card and adding some Distress Ink to shade them. Sentiment is from Joanna Sheen and I've embossed a brick wall for the inside of the nest box. Are they a couple, or a hen feeding her chick? More cards on my blog. Chrissie Here is the gorgeous heart - butterfly wings die from Memory Box. I bought it recently from Ally Pally and am delighted that I did! The additional little turquoise butterflies are from Stampin' Up's Beautiful Wings Embosslits. The sentiment is from Stampendous, mounted on Spellbinders tags, which I believe are no longer available, which is such a shame as I think they are just terrific. The larger die-cut was shortened to fit around the smaller one. My second card involves a lot of triple embossing, using Platinum and Black UTEE. The hearts were cut with Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers and impressed with a deely etched flourish stamp. The sentiment is from SU. As ever there are some more examples on my personal blog! *** An InLinkz Link-up

This style of fancy fold card has been "popping up" lately on Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube. I've enjoyed the many variations I've seen, but I was looking for directions to make a standard size card (4.25" x 5.50") with the simplest steps and technique to use. I liked Joy Tracey's YouTube video the best (thanks Joy!) I changed the sizing a bit to create mine as the standard size I was looking for. See instruction photos at the end of this post. I used the bright and cheerful colored papers from Little Dreamer, plus a sheet of Thistle and Lagoon cardstock. The "HUG" letters are from the word Laugh in the May Stamp of the Month Set ~ Live, Laugh, Love. I just used the last three letters and spelled HUG. "HUG" Flowers colored with Peony Purple, Pastel Green, Turquoise, Light Orange ShinHan Touch Twin markers. Leaves stamped on Lagoon cardstock, shade with Turquoise Blue marker. For a touch of sparkle, add some Clear Shimmer Brush and a Little Dreamer Glitter Gem or two! Isn't she the cutest? I colored her hair with the Clay marker and heart with Peony Purple marker. Skin is with a flesh colored pencil. Dress and cheeks are with a Bubble Gum CTMH Watercolor pencil. I added touches of shimmer to everything on the card with the Clear Shimmer Brush. LOVE it! D1711 True Love - Operation Smile Stamp Set $7 of every purchased stamp goes to Operation Smile! This set retires July 31, 2017. S1705 Live, Laugh, Love ~ May 2017 Stamp of the Month set Cut and score the pieces as shown. You can skip the scoring on the 2nd piece by folding it in half, then opening it and folding each end in to meet the your first fold in the center. Does the trick without the scoring time! Use a bone folder to get good crisp folds. This will help the Twist and Pop mechanism to work smoothly. NOTE: Adhere two patterned pieces 4" x 5 1/4" to the inside of your card base before attaching the pop out mechanism (house). See my card opened up at the top of page. Lay the 3" x 10" piece flat on top of the attached mechanism, lining up the center fold with the 2 1/8" markings. Fold back the two ends and add adhesive as shown. Carefully close the card and rub over the top to reinforce the folds. Open and close it a few times to ensure it works properly. Add 2 1/4" x 2 3/4" pieces of patterned paper to the 3" x 10" pop out piece. Decorate as desired. Other CTMH supplies used: Oval Thin Cuts Hearts Thin Cuts Bone Folder

Twist and Pop cards are fabulous, interactive cards with a central panel that twists and pops outward to reveal a message, image or combination of embellishments that is sure to impress the lucky receiver. TEMPLATE 1. Place the 11" x 41/4" piece of card stock horizontally on your score board and score at 51/2". Fold along the score line to form your card base. 2. Use some patterned paper and an assortment of embellishments to decorate the front of the card as desired. I used one of the images and sentiments from the new Make A Wish digital stamp set. 3. Place the 11" x 33/4" piece of card stock horizontally on your score board and score at 23/4", 51/2" and 81/4". Fold along each of the score lines starting with a valley fold, then a mountain fold and then another valley fold. 4. Decorate your image panel as desired. This is the section of the card that "twists and pops" as the card is open so you will probably want to display your main message or image here. 5. To create the mechanism, place the 8" x 3" piece of card stock horizontally on the desk in front of you. Use a pencil and ruler to measure and mark 21/2" from either end of the card stock, on both the top and bottom edge. See the template above for correct placement. 6. Place the 8" x 3" piece of card stock horizontally on your score board and score at 4". 7. Rotate the card stock so that it is now vertical on your score board. Score at 11/2" intersecting the first score line. 8. Now we're going to score between the pencil marks you made in step five. Start at the top, left hand mark and score down to the bottom, right hand mark. Now score from the bottom, left hand mark up to the top, right hand mark. The four score lines should intersect in the middle of the card stock. Refer to the template above. 9. Fold and burnish all score lines with a bone folder. 10. Use your index fingers to fold the long sections inward as shown in the photos below. 11. Use a bone folder to burnish all the folds. 12. Now we're ready to construct our twist and pop card. You should have an image panel, the inner mechanism and the card base. 13. Apply some glue to the triangle shaped area on the card mechanism. Lay a ruler along the centre of the card base to find the mid point and line up the mechanism, directly below the fold, making sure the card still closes easily. Apply the mechanism, glue side down, and allow to dry for a couple of minutes. 14. Apply more glue to the second triangle section, then close the card to adhere in place. Allow the card to dry for a few minutes to ensure the mechanism is securely attached. 15. Open the card. The mechanism should unfold and lay almost flat on top of the card. Place the image panel on top of the mechanism, matching the centre score lines and keeping the edges flush. 16. Fold the right hand panel over to reveal the mechanism. Use a pencil to mark the position of the image panel. 17. Repeat on the left hand side, so that you have two clear pencil lines on the mechanism. 18. Apply glue on the top, right hand section of the mechanism. Keep the glue between the pencil line and the edge of the card stock as seen in the photo below. 19. Move the image panel so that it's flush with the pencil line and centred over the mechanism (see below). Unfold the image panel and press against the glue. Allow to dry for a minute. 20. Apply glue on the bottom, left hand section of the mechanism, keeping the glue between the pencil line and the edge of the card stock as seen in the photo below. 21. Unfold the image panel and press against the glue. Allow to dry completely. Your card is now complete! (You may have to open and close the card a few times to limber up the mechanism) Stamps:

For a long time now, I have both admired and felt intimidated by this fabulous card fold. I'm ashamed to admit that until very recently I've never even investigated the mechanics behind how it works simply because it appeared so complicated. I finally decided the time had arrived to step outside my comfort zone and give this fold a go... Now I'm almost embarrassed to share this tutorial with you. The card base is formed from just four pieces of card stock joined together in the corners, and eight score lines. I admit that I was gobsmacked when I realised how simple and easy it was to make. Lesson learned. 1. Start with four pieces of card stock, each measuring 3" x 6". It's important to have nice straight lines and accurate measurements so the card can move freely. 2. Lay a piece of card stock horizontally on your score board and score at 11/2" and again at 41/2". Repeat for the other three pieces of card stock. Fold back and forth along the score lines. 3. OPTIONAL: ink the edges of the card stock, including the folds, for a vintage look. 4. Lay two piece of card stock vertically on the desk in front of you with the score lines running horizontally. 5. We're going to place adhesive in each of the four corners, 11/2" from the centre of each piece. I've marked the location of the adhesive in the photos below. Make sure you only apply it to the outer section or your card will not operate properly. 6. Add glue or double sided tape to the first corner. I found it easier to work on one section at a time. Make sure your glue or tape is strong enough to withstand a lot of handling... people are going to play with this card! 7. Secure a piece of card stock horizontally across the top of the two pieces that are on your desk. Keep the edges flush and the score lines all lined up. Refer to the photos for correct placement. 8. Repeat the process in the bottom corner. 9. Now we're going to adhere the other two corners, remembering to keep all the score lines and edges lined up nicely. 10. Believe it or not, that's all it takes to complete the card base. Once the glue is dry, you can have a little play with your card. 11. Now to decorate. I must admit that I found this more difficult that the actual card itself... mostly because of how many different spaces there were to fill. If you want to decorate your card the same way I did, you'll need four image panels - two measuring 23/4" x 53/4" and two measuring 53/4" x 23/4" (two vertical and two horizontal). You'll also need eight pieces of patterned paper measuring 11/4" x 23/4" and eight pieces of patterned paper measuring 11/4" x 11/4". 12. I wanted my card to look kind of like a puzzle, so I chose to cut each of the image panels in half so that they split and come together as the card is viewed. If you don't like the idea of cutting your four large image panels, you could opt to have eight individual panels instead. 13. Start with the image that you'd like to appear on the front of the card. Remember, the orientation of the card doesn't matter - you could just as easily start with a horizontal image by turning the card 90 degrees. 14. Use glue or double sided tape to adhere the elements to the front of the card. Avoid bulky embellishments that will hinder the operation of the card and definitely avoid placing anything over any of the edges. 15. Flip the card open to the next area for decoration. Be careful not to turn the card while you're decorating - you don't want to end up with images or sentiments that are upside down! 16. When you come to this section, be aware that the middle pieces will actually cover a whole image panel rather than some of the small pieces of patterned paper. Refer to the photos below. 17. Complete the card with the remaining patterned paper and image panels. I absolutely love this card! Even though I know the mechanism is simple, it's still incredibly satisfying to play with. My 13 year old son thought I had performed some sort of magic when he saw it... in fact, he enjoyed it so much that he appropriated the sample version! Products:

This is a quick and easy card. Comes together very quick but looks like you spent hours on it. Below are the measurements and the full tutorial. Cardstock 8 1/4x11 1/2 inches. Score on long side at 2 3/4, 5 1/2, 8 1/4 and 11. Turn to short side and score at 2 3/4 just down to the score line past the 1/2" one. Make a mark at 5 1/2 inches Turn 160 degrees and make a mark at the 2 3/4 and score down to first score line at 5 1/2 inches. Panels you glue inside are cut at 3/4x 3 3/4" and scored at 1/2" on each end. Mats are 2 1/2"x5 1/4" come down on long side 2 1/2 inches and make a mark cut away from mark to opposite corner. creating a triangle. Do this to both pieces, making sure you cut the other side opposite so you can lay on each side. Outside mats are the same as above and cut the same. Use the triangle you cut away for the lapels.
Comment ?????
