Fun ways to encourage reflection and goal setting. Reflection can be a tricky concept to genuinely learn. There are fun templates to suit the early years as well as the older students. The templates are ALL editable. You will require Power Point in order to manipulate the slides. You can click on the subject area and change it to suit your school or class. Similarly, the key concepts can be adjusted as your unit demands. Or you can change the subjects for skills, key concepts, Learner Profile traits and IB Attitudes. All as you prefer for your class, unit and school. You will find a collection of 13 reflection templates one of which one is a flip flap book. Use all of the pages in the book or only those pertinent to you and your unit. These can also be edited to suit. The templates include spaces for writing or drawing, depending on the ages and abilities of the students. Three of the templates include multiple subject areas, so that there can be one reflection template for multiple subjects. For example: specials. Use them with: End of unit reflections Portfolios Goal setting for any curricular area Reflection of Learner Profile, IB Attitudes and Skills used. Student Led Conferences You may also be interested in my other IB PYP resources which can be found in my store or on my blog. I have complete units of inquiry for each theme as well as resources to build understanding of the Learner Profile, Attitudes and Key Concepts. Enjoy! Susan Powers www.coolteachingtools.blogspot.com

Since the enhanced Primary Years Programme documentation was released in October 2018 (PYP: From principles into practice), I have been updating the PYP placemat I previously created for teachers and students at Kaposia Education Center, an IB World School to support their implementation of the PYP. Some changes were easy to make. I took out reflection as a key concept. I removed the action cycle and replaced it with the five different forms of action articulated in the new documentation. However, the back of the placemat proved more difficult to bring up-to-date. I was able to easily replace the new ATL sub-skills, but defining them in student-friendly language seemed like a difficult task to do alone. So, I waited until yesterday when I was able to work with the amazing Kaposia educators to create definitions of all the ATL sub-skills (and sub-sub-skills) that even our youngest learners will be able to understand. The following is the product of our work together. My hope is that the teachers and students at Kaposia, along with others at authorized or candidate PYP schools, are able to use this PYP Placemat to help them more deeply implement the robust international Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. Click the images below to be linked to the PDF version of the placemat that can be printed and copied.
