Stair-case window. Bedő House, built in 1903. Architect Emil Vidor. Today a museum and café, and a dwelling-house: House of Hungarian Art Nouveau - A Magyar Szecesszó Háza. In 1907 the periodical Hungarian Competition (Magyar Pályázat) presents a description of the building with the title: Mr. Béla Bedő's Honvéd Street Palace. The contemporary photos clearly show that the designer, Emil Vidor, took good care of the building’s interior space as well, in the spirit of Gesamtkunstwerk (all objects in the same style). This powerful unity of the arts and crafts in 1903 was a groundbreaking event in Hungary. The Bedő House was built only six years after the Belgian Victor Horta made his first fully Art Nouveau house, and in the same time with the Scottish architect, Mackintosh's famous arts house. Even a contemporary description mentions the planned use of specially designed murals, the richly applied stained and ground glass, and generally the special design furnishing of the whole building. Emil Vidor is the architect of the house (27 March, 1867, Budapest - 8 July, 1952, Budapest). After studying in Budapest, from 1890 he continues his studies in Munich finishing them in Berlin in 1891. Returning home, he is employed by the office of MiklósYbl. From 1894 he is running the planning office for designing the Ősbudavár Building Complex for the Millenneum Exhibition - medieval houses on the area of the today's Amusement Park, in the Városliget. Opening his own office in1896, he is planning apartment blocks and villas for the wealthy. He builds the first Art Nouveau style house, the Villa-Egger, on Városligeti fasor 24 (City Park Avenue) in 1901-1902. He starts planning for Béla Bedő in 1903, this is when the Bedő House is built, on 3rd Honvéd Street, which is giving home today to the Hungarian Secession House. Although while in Germany he becomes acquainted mainly with the Jugendstil art, the French and Belgian Modern architecture and the Art Nouveau do not remain unknown for him either. An Orientalist work of a beauty clasping an urn. The painting is exquisitely executed and is housed in a custom made hand carved frame. Marcel von Herrfeld, born in 1889, was a son of Alice Herrfeldt and the Spanish painter of nudes Luis Ricardo Falero (1851-1896) who worked in Paris. Alice Herrfelt took painting lessons from the Spanish painter. In the year of the birth of her son Marcel, René Alice Herrfeldt married the Hungarian opera singer Alexander Klein. Marcel went to school in Munich, Germany and began his education at the Kunstgewerbeschule München during the time of the Art Nouveau movement. As an Austrian-Hungarian reserve officer he had to take part in the first world war, was captured in Russia, was sent to prison in Siberia and escaped via China and India to Munich. The works of the famous painter Franz von Stuck in Munich influenced the young Herrfeldt. His first exhibition in 1921 at the Glaspalace in Munich was a success. He showed a nude portrait of a female slave which attracted much attention. His studio was in Schwabing. His favorite subject to paint was the erotic female nude, which he didn´t paint in an academically aesthetical way but more along the pin-up-culture of painting. His women are athletic and self confident figures who present themselves at seashore or in classical poses of the Rokoko in the historical surroundings of a boudoir. Herrfeldt died 1965 in Munich. He received the Diplome d´honneur posthumously in 1971. less

Főbb tantárgyak I-III. osztályban: magyar nyelv, számtan-mértan, éneklés, hit- és erkölcstan, rajzolás és testgyakorlás. A felsőbb, IV-VI. osztályokban tanítottak még történelem- és alkotmánytant, földrajzot, egészségtant és háztartástant. Az érdemjegyek 1-től 5-ig terjedtek, a legjobb osztályzat az egyes volt. Osztálytanítók oktattak minden tantárgyat, a hittant pedig Senkovics Bertalan plébános. Két részből állt a napi tanítás: reggel 8-tól délig és délután 2-től 4-ig. Közben hazamentek ebédelni, bár a távolabb lakó gyerekek az iskolában fogyasztották el otthonról hozott ebédjüket, közben a fegyelemről az altiszt gondoskodott. A könyveket és a tanszereket a szülőknek kellett megvásárolniuk, de az iskola a legszegényebbeknek ingyen biztosította azokat. A könyvtárban 67 tanítói és 161 ifjúsági könyv volt. A tanításon kívül konyhakertészkedéssel, fafaragással, háncsfonással, a lányok kézimunkával foglalkoztak. A tanórákon és azokon kívül a tanítók megkövetelték a fegyelmet és a rendet. A hiányzásokat igazolni kellett, igazolatlan hiányzás miatt pénzbüntetést is kiszabhattak, melyet ha szükséges volt, a rendőrség szedett be. A tanulás mellett egyéb kötelező elfoglaltságok is voltak, pl.: szederlevél gyűjtése. Mivel állami iskola volt, a napi templomba járás nem volt kötelező, de a vasárnapi istentiszteletek látogatását szorgalmazták, és az iskolában is gyakorolták az imákat.
