Uhh I know a couple weeks ago, I wished for a blizzard. But then the temperatures seriously dropped. To like negative degrees. Not even my fleece-lined leggings could protect me. It’s warmed up a little bit and we’re actually in the midst of a pretty big snow, but at this point, I think I’d rather just have a tropical vacation instead. So much so that I actually stopped in the middle of my work the other day and started looking up how much a tropical vacation would cost right about now. But since I sadly won’t be heading on one

To chart the image on this sweater, I made the rookie mistake of using knitting graph paper and colored pencils, unaware that knitting design software now exists that would have made my life considerably easier and this project far less time-consuming. As it was, however, my old-school tactics allowed me to tape the chart up on my studio wall while I was working on it and linger with the design. I could step away, see how the image was coming together, and make adjustments that helped add dimension and depth. If you’re interested in working intarsia creations of your own, I encourage you to embrace Walker’s advice with this square-set template and “give your imaginations free rein.” Consider letting your yarn choice guide the images you select to depict as I did here. The moment I held a hank of Shibui’s Heichi in brownstone in my hands, I saw the striking colorings of a fox and everything else quickly fell into place. It’s useful to note that if you have an aversion to intarsia and just don’t like doing it, working the fox in duplicate stitch would be a great alternative to consider. You could simply work the duplicate stitches in a lighter weight yarn (using the Heichi for duplicates would be too bulky) but any like-colored lighter weight yarn would work well.

Pallet signs sure have been popular on Weekend Craft the past few months. So I thought today I would show you how I stencil pallet signs. This was also great timing because its Silhouette Challenge time and this month's theme was home decor with the added bonus of using wood. Needless to say this month's challenge was right up my alley. Now I get request all the time from family and friends to make them a project that they have seen on the site and this was on of those occasions. You may have seen this sign before here when I was getting ready to head to a show.

It snows all night, and suddenly, there's too much snow! It blows in through the mail slot, comes in through the window, and blocks the chimney. \"How will Santa deliver our presents?\" Mungo cries. If you follow me on my public Facebook site, you will recall that over this October Full Moon, I spoke of the Sacred Stag. That though we live surrounded by probably over 100 woods acres here in the mountains of North Carolina, and are blessed to see many a doe and occasionally even her fawns, I have yet to see a Stag. Seeing the fawns of course, assures me that not all Stags now "adorn" someones wall, but it is disturbing that such a magnificent creature is hunted down for its antler, not even as a need for food; but for a disturbing "decoration". This full moon, my husband came into our home to tell me he'd finally seen a stag, standing at alert at the top of the "holler" which is part of the so called driveway trail. I hope he stays close by, as no hunters will ever find a welcome as long as we are the Guardians of this beautiful land. In ritual, in ancient times, the Stag represents the full essence of the strength, power, intelligence of the God. It is those very antler that at a point, the new religion; christianity, took the antlers that the chosen one of a tribes virile men, would wear in HONOR; and instead created this negative entity of a "devil". How such a magnificent, stunning creature could be taken from the sacredness of representing the Masculine, to become an evil is a travesty. I feel blessed that so soon after a discussion on this issue, a Stag appeared so close to our home in the forest. What an honor! It is in this image and of this ancient pathway to the Old Ones that this very magickal oil was created. You will find no oils anywhere that compare to those found here. Most "cut" their scents with a variety of chemicals, nowdays there is even a preparation that I found on a site, made just to make a small amount of oil seem to be much more in content. This "corner cutting" may make the seller more money, but it is an inferior product to the oils offered here. This is no big box, mass produced oil. All focus and energy put into the making of every single type of scent offered is the best you will find. The saying "You get what you pay for" applies aptly to these magickal scents. Consideration of moon phase, purpose, (intent) and reverence is always part of the making of the oils. Elsewhere here, you will find incenses, bathsalts & sachets and occasionally unique bottled massage oils are made using the scent you chose. If you wish to "cut" your oil, it will be your choice; but if you chose to do so, please consider using a natural product however; sweet almond oil, jojoba, or even vitamin e would be far better choices than a synthetic, or alcohol. This oil, as I mentioned, is for honoring the spirit, the totem, in honor of the King Stag. It is for strength, spirit, knowledge, virility..have you read Marion Zimmer Bradleys book "The Mists of Avalon"? If not, and you are a book reader; go to amazon.com and buy a copy (and dont ever lend it out)..and you will come away with a new respect for the Stag. Magickally, this oil is excellent for masculine energy. It can indeed be used as a powerful anointing oil before ritual, before circle..even as a personal scent. For candleworkings; I would suggest using an earthy brown candle..which is used for protection of self, of the home & hearth, for strength and wisdom and power. Along with many powerful oils like Grey Wolf, Grey Hawk, The Greenman..I now offer the Stag. It is sold in dark amber glass 2 dram oil vials...and a small amount is all that is needed. Elsewhere, you will find almost all the oils available as long burning incense. The Stag will be one of them. As with all the scents offered here at Harvest Moon Haven, please note that if you'd like samples of some of the scents, just email me at Manxwitch [!at] yahoo.com or convo me here and I will be happy to include sample scent "paddles" free of charge with any order. Please click the "like" button or add Harvest Moon Haven to your own personal favorites and you will know when more items are added to the ever growing selection of magickal items offered here, along with a wide selection of pagan jewelry, vintage items and other one-of-a-kind goodies I am constantly adding in.
