I’ve always been intrigued by the world of soap making. Choosing your own ingredients to make your own special scent, adding colors and textures to make it aesthetically pleasing, and then getting to share those goodies with friends and family just sounds like the best thing ever. I’ll admit that I’ve been an admirer for…
I remember having mille feuille as a kid and absolutely loving it. This was my first attempt ever at making one and it turned out so well and of course it's egg-free and dairy-free. For me it was important to keep the recipe as easy and accessibly as possible. It's that easy you can get all ingredients in your supermarket as well which is even better. And the home-made custard tasted even better than I could've imagined, better than the store bought one!

English licorice, or licorice allsorts, is a classic, old-fashioned confection. I just love the ones with coconut and black licorice – one bite and I am in heaven. Luckily these delicious confections are easy to make, and my version is made from almonds and coconut. I highly recommend waiting until the next day before tasting;

They're actually much simpler to make than you could ever dream up and because there is both yeast and baking powder, they rise beautifully and produce delightfully soft muffins. They don't last quite as long as the store bought so I split any ones that we weren't eating that day and stashed them in the freezer to defrost and serve with butter and jam. But if you're ever in the mood to make some, try these and you won't be disappointed.
All yogurts need a starter and instead of buying a powdered starter, all you need is a small 200g pot of natural yogurt as your starter (just make sure that it says that it has "live cultures" in it). You can continue to take one and a half tablespoons from this pot and can get at least 6-7 lots of yogurt from one small pot. Then, all you need is a thermos or a jar and some time to create it-no special container or anything that you wouldn't already have in the house. All you do once you mix and heat the three ingredients together is to leave it for 24 hours and you end up with yogurt! The powdered milk is to give the yogurt a bit of body to it and I used an organic full cream milk (low fat milk is also ok but non fat is a challenge) and you can also use organic yogurt as your starter.

My home made contribution to Valentines Day evening was a home made pate and crackers served with cheese (not home made). These crackers to be exact. They're Raincoast Crisps, a seedy, nutty cracker that has something of a cult like following. They have several flavours to choose from but in this month's Daring Bakers challenge we were just trying one.

Bajadera (Bah-ya-deh-ra) is a famous chocolate praline created by the Kraš confectionery company in ex-Yugoslavia, now Croatia. Yugoslavia did not survive as a country, but a recipe for home-made Bajadera is still widely popular across the ex-Yugoslavian territories – Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia. Making Bajadera at home is a lot of fun, it is a relatively simple no-bake desert, based on a nougat paste from ground nuts, chocolate, cookies, sugar syrup and butter. Needles to say, there are as many Bajadera recipes as there are cooks in the Balkans. Below is a version that my family used for years. And in case you are wondering, the real thing can nowadays be purchased on Amazon, see http://www.amazon.com/Kras-Bajadera-Nougat-Dessert-500g/dp/B000LQNB72.
