We visited Melin Tregwynt - a great selection of beautiful blankets. We went on a Sunday, so the mill wasn't running.http://www.melintregwynt.co.uk/, but I bought some blanket remnants. Then onto The National Woollen Museum. www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/wool/ The guide was great - he turned on the machines as we were going around - we were too early for the official tour. What a great museum - I will definately return...to get more fabric!! The background fabric is a piece that I've had for a while - Melin Tregwnt. The 4 pieces are Melin Teifi. http://www.melinteifi.com/ which is at the Woollen Museum. I've adapted my Russian doll die for these 'Welsh ladies in waiting'....bunting I think. It's coming along.... I added seed beads for eyes, zig zag edge and a felt daffodil. Just need to finish off the binding now. I've made 10 flags on 3 metres of binding. It's not a great photo, but here is the bunting hanging on the gym apparatus in school I'll take a photo outside when the weather is better

One of my fondest childhood memories was delivering May Baskets on May Day. My Mom was always so good about doing this with us. I remember filling the Styrofoam cup and twisting pipe cleaners for the basket handle. Then going around the neighborhood to deliver. Fun times. MayPole Cupcakes When I had Sophia and she got to be around a year old, I wanted to start doing this with her but realized that May Baskets and May Day really weren't a big deal where we lived. Sophia delivering May Baskets, a few years ago! I am so glad I found this picture! I changed that. Although Sophia is growing up and becoming less interested in delivering May Baskets, I still think it is fun celebrate May Day in some shape or form. This year, I made these MayPole Cupcakes. Very easy. Just bake your favorite cupcake and use your favorite frosting. I made the MayPoles using Pirouette cookies and ribbon. I attached the ribbon underneath the top of the MayPole using a dab of left over Royal Icing but you could use Karo Syrup. The top of the MayPole is a flavored tootsie roll, but you could just as easily use a piece of fondant or spiced gum drop. See.....simple. Have a great May Day Everyone! This creamy, fun concoction is a hint of whimsy and a celebration of all things Irish – a little whiskey, a little cream, and some chocolate at the end of the rainbow. To take this over the top, garnish with crushed chocolate mint cookies - if you’ve still got any. It’s a whiskey drink that’s here to play and doesn’t take itself seriously.

A happy Saint Patrick's Day to All! And a great big thank you to Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen's for hosting her 7th annual Saint Patrick's Day Blog Crawl. All year I have collected little things here and there to put together a post for this occasion and today I get to see how my thrifty finds all come together. The centerpiece is made from a basket I found this morning at the Volunteers of America Thrift store, a wee Irish lass and her lovely harp also from the VOA, shamrock plants from Marc's (my favorite closeout store, and yellow primrose from The Home Depot (4 plants for $3.00) plus a few odds and ends from the stash. The tablecloth is actually a four yard piece of material from Goodwill in a lovely hunter green plaid pattern. The dinnerware is the King O'Dell pattern made by Taylor Smith Taylor (a fine American made product), the flatware is Daffodil made by Rogers bought at auction from Goodwill, the Lillian Vernon shamrock placemats in the center of the table being used as a runner came from the Salvation Army Thrift Store, the Lenox candle holders came from Goodwill, Candles from Marc's, green stemware was thrifted but I don't remember where from, the Lenox chargers were bought on Ebay (cheap) last year. The green trimmed burlap napkins were bought last year when Pier One closed them out. And my favorite - the cute little Jadiete bunny rabbit salt cellars were bought at the VOA this morning when I bought the baskets. This little lady made her debut on my table last year. Both the Saint Patrick figure and the Irish Angel came from Marc's a few years back. Beautiful King O'Dell I couldn't resist adding the little sheep to the table. I fell in love with this lovely lady the first time I laid eyes on her. What's not to love about this St. Patrick O'Santa figure. His music box plays "When Irish Eyes are Smiling". The shelves have been decked out with thrifty finds too. Some are new (new to me that is) this year, some are from years gone by. Happy Saint Patrick's Day! The sun is shining and my children are back at nursery and school. It’s time to think about St David’s Day which has sparked lots of creativity in our house. Here’s a round up of 10 St David’s Day crafts, including some of ours. 10 St David’s Day crafts How about starting the day with a St David’s Day breakfast, I love this one which includes Welsh dragony bacon and egg. You can’t celebrate St David’s Day without a batch of Welsh cakes too. They are simple to make and taste divine, especially when warm. It’s lovely to bring some colour into the house. As well as colourful daffodils, did you know that leeks are a well known Welsh symbol? I found this fun craft for kitchen paper leeks which I know my children would love to make and then use in their play kitchen. How about making some Welsh ladies bunting to decorate the house? I found two versions, one with cheery faces and googly eyes and more Welsh ladies bunting based on sweet Russian nesting dolls, both would brighten up a room. I also like this fun St David’s Day bunting printable. I haven’t forgotten the children and […]
I normally don't decorate for St. Patrick's Day, but since Easter isn't until the end of April, I decided to whip something up! Making banners is kindof an addiction for me and since I pretty much have every other holiday/season, it was the perfect excuse. I don't know about you, but really cute and classy St. Patrick's Day decor is kindof hard to find; at least around here. Everything seems to be made out of shiny metallic cellophane or tinsel and just isn't my taste. Since I love green so much anyway, I just used a few things I already had with some new purchases to put together a cute little ensemble on my bench under the banner. The paper is all from Graphic 45, but from different collections. I just grabbed the patterns that I liked in green and called it good. The little image under the letter "c" is from Crafty Secrets. I was wishing that I hadn't gotten rid of all of the horseshoes I bought for one of my kid's Cowboy/Cowgirl birthday parties. I noticed how cute the little horshoe tied up with ribbon looked next to the Leprochaun in the little image. Everything else is pretty straightforward and standard on my banners. It whipped up quite quickly since it only used 5 letters. It is shorter than most of my banners so it doesn't span the entire length of the board. I found something green to hang on the last handle to fill things up! Everyone loved their little Valentine's treats when I passed them out at school. I ended up making chocolate dippped strawberries for the teachers. I put them on silver platters that I found at the dollar store and tied them up with cellophane. I gave the principal the stacked boxes from my last post which she absolutely loved. She confessed to me this week when I dropped into the office to tell me that she had re-gifted. I guess her son needed something quick for his girlfriend and wanted to give her that. I thought that was cute! Alot has been going on here; throw-up, diarrhea, more throw up (thank goodness none of those for me, I am actually feeling quite good these days), going forward with some construction (Rowan threw up all over the floor when the workmen were here), a fender-bender, weening Rowan onto a sippy cup, tantrums, we are most likely expecting another boy, homework, etc. February has almost come and gone. I will be back tomorrow with my second design for this month's SFYTT! Thanks for fluttering by!
