Along Henley St. in Downtown Knoxville. For what it's worth, the congregation used to meet at a building on Church St., but that building burned down and this one was built in 1930. Apparently, FDR once remarked, "That is the most beautiful church I have ever seen." Today, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Historical marker on the north-east side reads: "1E 83 Battery Wiltsie A large Federal earthwork was lcoated back of Vine Avenue between Gay and Walnut Streets when General James Longstreet besieged Knoxville, Nov. 17 - Dec. 4, 1863. The Federal defense line ran along this ridge from Fort Hill. (Surrey St. and Saxton Ave.) 2400 yards east, to Fort Sanders, (17th St. and Laurel Ave.) 1400 yards west. Ten forts crowned these heights, five east and four west of this point." Historical marker on the north-west side reads: "FATHER ABRAM J. RYAN (1838-1886) Confederate chaplain, poet of the Confederacy, author of the requiem of the Lost Cause, "The Conquered Banner," written at Knoxville soon after Lee's surrender at Appomattox Courthouse, April 9, 1865, and pastor of the Immaculate Conception Parish 1865-1867."

I am really loving this Mid-century Modern department store. I'm going to have to get photographs of it next time I'm down in Knoxville. The Rich's Department Store (a branch of Rich's out of Atlanta) was designed by Stevens and Wilkinson with landscape design by Eckbo, Royston & Williams, and lighting by Abe Feder. This was Rich's first store outstide the Atlanta area.
