What makes one plant tame and another wild? People have co-evolved with plants over thousands years. We have changed plants and they have changed us. Many of our sweetest foods are the most cultivated. But some plants have held onto the spicy, spiky, and wild ways they use to ward off hungry creatures that might browse” and destroy” them. Wild Arugula is right on that cusp, tame enough to be delectable, and wild enough to keep our taste buds on their toes. If you already like arugula, you'll like wild arugula even more. If you already dislike arugula, well, steer clear. Wild arugula has an amplified arugula flavor, while its smaller leaves and pretty color make for a refined impression. Grab a small handful and toss chopped into a salad for a terrific arugula bite, or steam older leaves for use as a side green.

Black Cohosh, also called Black snakeroot, is a flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae. It is native to eastern North America growing in woodland habitats. Black Cohosh grows best in rich, damp soil in shady areas such as woodlands, boggy areas, natural drains and stream banks. Germinating Black Cohosh from seed may have low germination rates. Experience with different types of germinating methods is suggested before attempting to germinate Black Cohosh. Growing your garden landscape, flowering plants from seed not only saves a ton of money, it is the most rewarding as well! Gardeners should understand that most plants have built in dormancy mechanisms that will prevent the seed from germinating until the time is right ( nature's time). This amazing feature prevents a population of plants from germinating all at once, before killing frosts, or in times of drought. To germinate native plants, a gardener needs to break this dormancy period before the seeds will sprout. Nature sometimes increases the odds of a seed germinating at just the right time by requiring multiple conditions be met. Black Cohosh seeds need a 60-90 day period of cold stratification. Place the seeds in a plastic bag with damp peat moss in the refrigerator for 60 days), followed by a 60-90 day period in 75-80 degree temperatures. Finally, the seeds will once again need three months of cold temperatures in the refrigerator to allow the rest of the seed to germinate. The roots were used by Native Americans as an herb.
