The Annunciation: All Saints, Appleton Roebuck - by Harry Harvey

Harry Harvey, who died on January 29 aged 88, was a leading figure in contemporary stained glass design and completed more than 220 windows in a career lasting 40 years.

Exhall is something of an oddity, since not only are there two villages called Exhall in Warwickshire both have medieval churches dedicated to St Giles (the other is just north of Coventry). The church itself is very much a churchcrawler's 'quickie' as there's not much to it, a simple chancel & nave with bellcote. There's a blocked and very plain Norman north door and an unusual display of ballflower above a south nave window but notmuch else. It is regardless kept open and welcoming and worth a quick look for the attractive glass, a pretty 1890s Annunciation in the east window and two contemporary lights from 1977 by the late Harry Harvey of York at the west end, recounting the legend of St Giles rescuing his emblematic deer from hunters.

The chapel at Leicester's Royal Infirmary Hospital is sadly not long for this world, being due for demolition later this year as part of the expansion of the hospital's A&E unit. There are plans to salvage the stained glass windows, but sadly it seems this charming Victorian chapel will be lost, and the windows likely consigned to storage for the foreseeable future. The chapel is a small brick building consisting of nave and apse, and contains good Arts & Crafts glass at it's west end by Paul Woodroffe & A.J.Davies. Standing next Ayscoughfee Hall is this beautiful church. It is extremely well kept, and has some very beautiful stained glass windows. The foundations of the original building were laid in the 13th century, but has undergone much change over the centuries. Much of the glass is 20th century.

St Andrew's church in Countesthorpe retains its medieval tower but the main body of the church has otherwise been rebuilt, in 1840 and then in 1907 when the present brick arcades in the nave were constructed. The church has some good mid 20th century glass in the south aisle.
