Made to Order - Please allow 3-4 weeks for shipment. Olympus Collection, Volume 6: Hades. Despite the common misconception, Hades is not the Greek god of death. Rather, he is the god of the underworld—the afterlife. He is neither judge nor juror nor the embodiment of evil. Upon entering his realm after death, Hades ensures the souls who arrive are treated according to their deeds in life. As the ruler of the underworld, he is strict, certainly, but fair. Truthfully, Hades is more an admin or manager than an evil deity, but I'd rather not let the King of the Underworld hear me call him that, so let's move on. Hades is associated with many symbols, from his signature weapon, the bident, to keys, cornucopias, the cypress tree, the Narcissus flower, and even Cerberus. I combined two of these, the bident and key, for the sixth Olympus Charm. While Hades is not the god of death, there is no separating him from it. His realm awaits our arrival, an inevitable finality for us all. Once you enter, the gates are locked behind you—there is no turning back. Hades' Key charm reminds you there are no second chances at life. Its design is purposefully menacing—sharp, reminiscent of the bident staff of the god of the underworld. The Key is a memento mori of sorts, designed to recenter you when you get caught up in the minutiae of things. This gold charm may represent the key to the gates of Hades, but it also acts as the key to life, that is, as your talisman to inspire you to live an enriched, happy, and fulfilling life. Your Bident Key cannot accompany you into the afterlife; it will not unlock the gates once you've passed through them. Before that time, keep it close. Live well, and remember death. 14 or 18 Karat Recycled Yellow Gold Double-Sided/Reversible Knife Edge Detail Brushed Matte Finish Pendant measures approx 29mm in length, not including bail Chain sold separately; browse chains here.
