A take-off of the well known Cantonese egg fu yung and local to the St. Louis area, this can now be found nationwide, in the local chop suey houses and Chinese express type restaurants. Surprisingly, the sandwich has nothing to do with St. Paul and why the sandwich is named that is unclear. But for anyone growing up in the St. Louis area might find this sandwich to be a happy memory, and a recipe almost lost to the culinary community.

Thanks to Matthew Plymale. "Many commonalities exist between architectural designs with intended functions to serve subsistent demographics in growing cities on an international scale. Aesthetics, targeted demographics, and idealized function link together the designs and realizations of Ernst May’s Seidlung Bruchfeldestrasse in Frankfurt, Germany, the firm of Leinweber, Yamasaki, & Hellmuth’s Pruitt-Igoe high-rise design in St. Louis, and Moshe Safdie’s Habitat exhibition in Montreal. These three designs are in response to the industrial revolution and shift from country to city living in the first 20 years of the 20th century, the middle-class move to the suburbs in the St. Louis in the 40’s and a more post-modernist architectural attempt to respond to individuality, communal living in a postmodern manner, respectively. Similarities between these three designs can magnify tensions of empathy and humanism in architecture and all of the processes of design which push it from an abstract and experimental ideal into realized functional structures. In these examples we are able to explore different methods of design, production, intended use, and user interaction". halaxdesign.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Codonopsis lanceolata lance asiabell, bonnet bellflower 200, 500, 1000 seeds 2023' January Type: Vine Family: Campanulaceae Native Range: Eastern Asia Seeds origin: South Korea 더덕 Zone: 5 to 8 Culture Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Prefers sandy loams. Winter hardy to USDA Zone 6, so it is advisable to grow this vine in a sheltered location with a winter mulch in the St. Louis area (Zone 5b to 6a). Noteworthy Characteristics Codonopsis lanceolata is a perennial, twining vine in the bellflower family. It typically grows to 10-15' tall but dies back to the ground each winter. Features greenish, nodding, bell-shaped flowers (to 1.25" long) with pale bluish-purple shading on the outside and with violet spotting and/or striping inside. Blooms in late summer. Elliptic-ovate green leaves (2-3" long) are clustered at the branch ends. Roots of this Asian native vine are commonly used in Korean cooking. Plants in the genus Codonopsis are sometimes commonly called bonnet bellflower. Sow seeds at any time onto a good soil-based compost covering seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. We recommend germinating at 15 to 20 degrees C. Germination may be very slow, perhaps 2-3 months, or sometimes much longer, and these seeds may sometimes wait for spring before emerging. Grow on individual seedlings in 3 inch pots before finally planting with climbing support in a well-drained spot or very large pot. Codonopis prefers light, sandy soild but can grow in richer, loamy blends as well. The soil should be moist but well-drained. Light requirements are low as Codonopsis often takes well to shady locations. MAINTAINING Codonopsis starts can be sensitive to cold and are best started indoors approximately 6 weeks prior to last frost. Start in flats or similar container, and lightly cover seeds with a thin layer of soil, approximately 1/4" deep. Keep moist while awaiting germination.
