Codonopsis lanceolata lance asiabell, bonnet bellflower 200, 500, 1000 seeds 2023' January Type: Vine Family: Campanulaceae Native Range: Eastern Asia Seeds origin: South Korea 더덕 Zone: 5 to 8 Culture Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Prefers sandy loams. Winter hardy to USDA Zone 6, so it is advisable to grow this vine in a sheltered location with a winter mulch in the St. Louis area (Zone 5b to 6a). Noteworthy Characteristics Codonopsis lanceolata is a perennial, twining vine in the bellflower family. It typically grows to 10-15' tall but dies back to the ground each winter. Features greenish, nodding, bell-shaped flowers (to 1.25" long) with pale bluish-purple shading on the outside and with violet spotting and/or striping inside. Blooms in late summer. Elliptic-ovate green leaves (2-3" long) are clustered at the branch ends. Roots of this Asian native vine are commonly used in Korean cooking. Plants in the genus Codonopsis are sometimes commonly called bonnet bellflower. Sow seeds at any time onto a good soil-based compost covering seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. We recommend germinating at 15 to 20 degrees C. Germination may be very slow, perhaps 2-3 months, or sometimes much longer, and these seeds may sometimes wait for spring before emerging. Grow on individual seedlings in 3 inch pots before finally planting with climbing support in a well-drained spot or very large pot. Codonopis prefers light, sandy soild but can grow in richer, loamy blends as well. The soil should be moist but well-drained. Light requirements are low as Codonopsis often takes well to shady locations. MAINTAINING Codonopsis starts can be sensitive to cold and are best started indoors approximately 6 weeks prior to last frost. Start in flats or similar container, and lightly cover seeds with a thin layer of soil, approximately 1/4" deep. Keep moist while awaiting germination.

First of all, get a ticket. This hilarious show, superbly co-directed by Justin Been and Gary F. Bell, lampoons everything from political corruption, the legal system and bureaucracy, to the musical form itself, while constantly obliterating the fourth wall. Speaking of the fourth wall, there's this thing called "Brechtian theatre". It's a term that used to intimidate the hell out of me, but not anymore. Thanks to a conversation with a buddy of mine, I learned that, in a nutshell, Bertolt Brecht, a poet and playwright who played a huge part in developing what's called "epic theatre", didn't want the audience to get too caught up in the story by constantly reminding us that we were watching a piece of theatre. He "intended to provoke rational thought rather than to create illusion." Little did I realize that this works brilliantly in comedic satire. Hello, Urinetown: The Musical! Thanks to a devastating 20 year drought, a town has had to suffer no private toilets in an effort to conserve water. Public amenities are controlled by the corporation UGC, or "Urine Good Company". These toilets are scattered throughout the city, and there is a fee to pee. The big guy kicking the shit… no pun intended… out of the little guy. Sound familiar? Sure it does!
