About this resource: This growing bundle will contain sets of 4-5 weeks of morning work for August-June. For August, the math is focused on a review of 5th grade skills that lead up to 6th grade standards. The math is aligned to 6th Grade Common Core Standards and meant to be a review. Months already included: August - available now September - available now October - available now November - available now December - available now January - available now February - available now March - available now April - available now May - available now June - available now Each week follows the same routine and structure. Mathematician Monday- Multiplication & Division, Whole Numbers & Decimals, Expressions & Equations, Problem-Solving, Ratios & Rates Number System Tuesday: Whole Numbers & Decimals, Rational Numbers, Statistics & Probability Wordless Wednesday: No Word Problems! Students have 3 problems without words. Multiplication & Division, Expressions & Equations, Throwback Thursday: Relationships Between Variables, Geometry, Graphs, Coordinate Planes, Units of Measure Fraction Friday: Nothing says Fun Friday like Fractions! Fractions, Percent I created this resource in my own classroom because I saw a need to continuously review these key areas. By following this same structure each week, students know what to expect while they are also building their confidence in these essential math areas. I have also found several other benefits from this morning work routine: 1)Routine!-My students knew exactly what to do when they come in the classroom. Also, if I needed a few extra minutes due to meetings or other housekeeping duties, I knew my students were spending that time working on essential math skills, not just “busy work.” The morning work is meant to be short and sweet, skill practice, plus engaging. 2)Short & Sweet- There are only a few problems so it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. This will also let you know if students are still having difficulty with a certain skill. 3)Fewer Copies- Only one sheet of paper for the whole week! (Copy front and back) 4)A Weekly Grade-My students know this and do not want to do the work for homework or have a poor grade. This helped get them started right away in the morning. I also go over the problems each morning and allowed students to fix their work before turning it in. In my opinion, this is beneficial because it keeps the students engaged as we go over it, ESPECIALLY if they had difficulty with it. This was also beneficial for students because if they paid attention and “added on to their thinking,” they can earn a good grade that will be added weekly. For students that already struggle, this is confidence building and motivating. Digital The Math Daily Review comes as a printable pdf and in a digital format. The digital format includes Google Slides and self-grading Google Forms. The links for both of these are on a separate Google Slides: The Google Slides are organized into a weekly presentation. Each day is on one slide. Some teachers like to separate out the slides to share them on a daily basis. You are able to do this if you don't want to give students a whole week at a time. Google Forms: With the Google Forms, each day has its own Google Form. This ELA + Math Morning Work is available for the following grade levels: ELA + Math Bundles 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade ELA Bundles 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade 6th Grade 7th Grade 8th Grade ELA Weekly Assessments 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade 6th Grade Math Bundles 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade 🛑 Are you a member of the TLL Membership? I have been creating and using math error analysis activities with my students (Grades 5 - 8) for the past 13 years. Benefits of Math Error Analysis: Giving students opportunities to identify and correct errors in presented solutions allows them to show their understanding of the mathematical concepts I have just taught. My Experience: Every time I incorporate math error analysis activities into my lessons I am always amazed at how quickly it leads to richer discussions and deeper thinking among my students. They suddenly become little math critics and their focus broadens from getting the answer to understanding the process. What is Included: Each of my 'Math Error Analysis Activities' includes 10 real-world WORD PROBLEMS that are solved incorrectly. Students have to IDENTIFY THE ERROR, provide the CORRECT SOLUTION and share a helpful STRATEGY for solving the problem. An ANSWER KEY has also been provided with examples of possible answers. Ratios and Rates Error Analysis How to Use: When I present this activity to my students, I tell them that these are errors that students from my other class made and I need their help to correct them. Students LOVE correcting other students mistakes. I have my students use these activities with a partner, as a warm-up , as classwork, homework, in math centers and for group work. 5th Grade ✔ Numerical Expressions ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Add and Subtract Decimals ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Multiply and Divide Decimals ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Add & Subtract Fractions ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Multiply & Divide Fractions ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ 5th Grade Math ERROR ANALYSIS BUNDLE 6th Grade ✔ RATIO & RATES Error Analysis ✔ FRACTIONS, DECIMALS, & PERCENTS Error Analysis ✔ DECIMAL OPERATIONS Error Analysis ✔ MULTIPLY AND DIVIDE FRACTIONS Error Analysis ✔ ONE-STEP EQUATIONS Error Analysis ✔ INTEGERS & THE COORDINATE PLANE Error Analysis ✔ ORDER OF OPERATIONS Error Analysis 7th Grade ✔ Ratios & Proportional Reasoning- ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Integers- ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Rational Numbers - ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Percents - ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Expressions- ERROR ANALYSIS ✔ Equations and Inequalities- ERROR ✔ Probability - Error ANALYSIS ✔ Geometry- ERROR ANALYSIS 8th Grade ✔ Real Numbers Error Analysis ✔ Scientific Notation Error Analysis ✔ Multi-Step Equations Error Analysis ✔ Functions Error Analysis ✔ Powers & Exponents Error Analysis ✔ Pythagorean Error Analysis ✔ Volume & Surface Area of Cylinder Cones & Spheres Error Analysis ✔ 8th Grade Error Analysis BUNDLE

If your students need help with adding and subtracting integers, the manipulative in this post will help. I developed it as mart of my graduate thesis and it decreased student error on integer operations by 62%.
Today we were learning how to add and subtract positive and negative numbers. Just the thought of it gives me the shakes ;) So I did a few things to *try* and make it a bit easier for the kids to grasp and thought I would share with you all. We began talking about number lines, as we were going to be using them throughout today. Using a number line as our starting point, I broke the equation down like this for the kids. OK..that is probably confusing to you, as you don't exactly know what was going on in class. I had the students create a human number line. One of my students was the "walker". He stood on the number line at the 6. The subtraction sign told him to then face the negative side of the number line, so he turned around to face negative. the -4 is a negative number, so it says to walk backwards 4 spaces. So, while facing negatively, he is walking backwards (which actually puts him more positive). Got that?? We did a few of these problems, and with the kids actually turning their body in the right direction, then walking, the students seemed to grasp it. Next, each student made their own number line on their desk. I created this document for them so it would be easier. The kids cut out the pieces, glued them together, and had a big number line. They also cut out the little man. If you notice, he is facing opposite directions. They cut him out in a little square, then glued the two pieces back to back. This gave them a "walker" who could be turned in either the positive or the negative direction. Once the number lines and men were made, we worked on a few problems together, using the manipulatives, until they seemed to grasp the concept...and they did! It all seemed to fall into place for them, much better than it did last year when I just tried to teach them a whole bunch of rules. ;) We will get to that, but for now, I am happy that they are understanding how to use the number line to help them! Again, here is the document, in case you want to give it a try.

In this interactive, students add and subtract plays on a football field to practice working with negative and positive integers on the number line. Each set of randomized drives consists of seven to nine plays and ends with a touchdown. Plays are represented with equations. When students place the football at the correct point for each play, the answer to the corresponding equation is automatically filled in. The accompanying activity suggests ways that teachers can integrate the interactive into the classroom setting.

Exponents Color by Number For most of my school life as a student (and even as an adult, during PD), I have really liked doodling! During lectures, discussions...it would help me focus, but also give me something to make me look busy, so I wouldn't get called on in class! I always hated being called on and almost never participated voluntarily:) I liked to draw cubes, rectangles, squiggly lines, etc, and color in different parts of the doodles. Download this freebie:-) I really wanted to make some color by number activities. Since I am not good at creating actual pictures, I decided to make my color by numbers similar to my random drawing/doodling. My Exponent Color by Number is most similar to my past doodles, but I thought it was a little too random, so I started using actual shapes. The Integer Operations Color by Number (freebie), as well as most of my other color by numbers are more structured, but so much fun for me to make! Computerized doodling! Anyone else like to doodle?
I created these problem-solving graphic organizers for my students who struggle solving word problems and are unable to explain their work/solution. 🔑Each graphic organizer presents students with a real-world word problems. 🔑Students must then organize the information they are given, SOLVE the problem, JUSTIFY their work and EXPLAIN their solution. 🔑These problem-solving graphic organizers are available for math topics in Grades 5 - 8. Benefits of Using Graphic Organizers: My students have benefited from these resources. They are now spending more time thinking about what the word problem is asking before they begin to work on it. I also love that they are justifying why their answer is correct. I have made problem solving graphic organizers for the topics listed below. We've been working on radicals in Intermediate Algebra since before Christmas. The next item on the agenda is making the connection to rational exponents (and thereby also reviewing the Laws of Exponents). My students are fairly confident with Laws of Exponents, but I thought they might like a foldable to summarize everything in one place once we add in the rules for rational exponents and have to apply all the old rules. If you'd like a copy of the foldable I made, click here for a pdf download. There is a small 2x2 area on each flap where you can include extra notes or an additional example problem of your own. The inside lists a synopsis of the rules and at least one example for each type of problem. If you use it, I'd love to hear your comments! I submitted this as my first entry to http://made4math.blogspot.com/. Go over and check out the other great resources linked there if you haven't already done so. Mathematically yours, Miss B
Negative and positive numbers seem like a straightforward subject. I have found students over the years that seem to understand the concept, but when they are faced with a word problem or a situation that involves integers, it becomes easier to distinguish students that have deep level understanding from those that partially understand. Presenting this concept in many ways is helpful. This builds deeper understanding. Students will often say "Oh! That is what is means" when they see integers presented in mutiple ways. Students are asked to draw diagrams in their journals of different ways to represent integers (negative and positive numbers). My favorites are -as owing (negative) or having (positive) a certain amount of money -as above sea level (positive) or below sea level (negative) -as below freezing (negative) or boiling point (positive) After using multiple examples, students begin to generalize. Fluency in math is really important but for my students it can be very boring. I decided to change that by creating these math mazes, riddles and coloring activities. It's amazing to see how quickly they lose track of time when they are doing these fun math activities. They are so focused on completing the maze, riddle or coloring page that they don't realize they just solved 10 multi-step equations. I love it!! My students really like the coloring pages. When I initially tell them that we are going to do some coloring in math class, they look at me like I have two heads and one of them always reminds me that they are too old for coloring. However, within minutes they are totally into it and begging me for more. I do recommend having students use colored pencils for the coloring pages. They do not break as quickly as crayons and students seem to have more fun with them. I use Crayola's Colored Pencils Classpack and its great. It has 462 colored pencils and it comes in this great box that I can store and move them in. I have had it for over 5 years now and I don't see myself replacing it anytime soon. This year, I decided to store them in colored file folders (separated by topic) in a file crate that the students can easily get to. Whenever students finish an assignment early they are allowed to go to the "Fun Crate" and get a worksheet. I have also allowed them to turn them in for extra credit. It is working out wonderfully! These mazes, riddles and coloring activities are perfect for homework, classwork, and math stations. I find that they truly keep the students engaged while they are doing something meaningful. I have created mazes, riddles and coloring pages for many topics and grades. Check them out!
