I started off as family photography professional five years ago, but what I noticed was that people only came to get photographs taken with their children and spouses. I never had a client asking me to take photographs of their parents or grandparents or even photos of their children and parents.

I never expected to actually have tears when looking at pictures for the first time. Meet Bryan and his mom, Nita. Bryan is Nita's only son.... Bryan will be graduating from high school in the spring. Bryan realizes that no matter what, his mom is still going to love him, hug him and KISS him... even in public. Nita will have an empty nest after Bryan heads out into the world. Can't you just see the love in her face? Bryan can still make his mom laugh..... Not just laugh, a true belly laugh.... I'm not sure Nita realizes how poignant this photograph is.... Bryan is ready to move on.... Bryan needs to know that no matter where he goes... he can turn and mom will be just steps away.... Nita needs to know that that little boy will always be her little boy even if he can pick her up. (Bryan did say in a very shocked tone, "Mom, you are really light.") Bryan and Nita, thanks for letting me be the one who got to capture some really special moments with you.
Celebrating a big anniversary...40 years! We celebrated some big numbers over the weekend with my husband's side of the family. The 40th Anniversary of my in laws...these two love birds (above), and the 60th Birthday of my sweet MIL. Probably the highlight of the weekend was seeing the video and the special anniversary photo book that the kids put together for them as a

But it was close…. I remember in the fourth grade when Valentine’s day held an embarrassing kind of surprise for me as we all went to the blackboard tray to retrieve our little brown decorated bags full of tiny brightly colored paper cliche’ poems…the egg ones with the word “egg-cited” in them,”…the turtle ones that were all about “SLOWLY falling for you”…the elephant ones that were about “never forgetting my favorite valentine,”…and the ever- popular “nuts about you” ones. This year there was candy and a big regular store-shelf kind of card in my bag… from William Rotty. Now William Rotty was older than everyone else because he’d failed a grade or two and I think he failed because he was too busy being obnoxious and thinking of devious ways to be disrespectful. It was the worst day of the fourth grade to have that big candy heart sticking up out of the top of my bag and have the whole class (including me) excitedly waiting for the revelation of its origin…only to find out that it was from William Rotty. Some love letters are like that…the tender little expressions of relationships that are never meant to be. And we all […]
