Outer Circle Glasgow Subway train arrives at Bridge Street Underground Station on 19 May 1977. The station master awaits its arrival, while the only intending pasenger forms a queue for the inner circle. The third rail for electric traction supply is by the wall slightly higher than the 4 foot guage tracks. The station name is repeated on stencils along the seperate domestic supply for the internal car lights, which dates back to the cable haulage days.

The Glasgow Subway in Glasgow, Scotland, opened in 1896, making it the third oldest subway in the world after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro.
This is a 1933 view of the St. Enoch Station Railway hotel and the Glasgow Underground railway entrance was housed in the smaller building on the right. Looking south towards the river Clyde, which is a few hundred yards away. The old enamel advertising sign on the left reads ''They came as a boon and a blessing to men, The Pickwick, The Owl and the Waverley Pen.''

Old photograph of an underground subway station in Glasgow, Scotland. The Glasgow Subway is an underground metro line. Opened on 14 December 1896, it is the third oldest underground metro system in the world after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro. It is the only heavy rail underground metro system in the British Isles outside London, England, and also the only one outside London which operates completely underground. The line was originally known as the Glasgow District Subway, but was later renamed Glasgow Subway Railway. It was so called when taken over by the Glasgow Corporation who renamed it the Glasgow Underground in 1936. Despite this rebranding, many Glaswegians continued to refer to the network as " the Subway ". In 2003 the name " Subway " was officially readopted by its operator, the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. Dating from 1886, it was originally part of the Glasgow City and District Railway, the first underground railway in Scotland. The station was built using the cut and cover method, with the original walls being visible on the open air section at the western end of the platforms. Nearby points of interest include Sauchiehall Street and the Mitchell Library, and the station, along with nearby Anderston, a stop on the Argyle Line, serves the city's financial district, making this station popular with commuters.
