I hope you enjoy this little fabric box tutorial as much as I do. It is simple enough to complete in about an hour, which makes it perfect for a last minute hostess gift. Fill it with candy and you are ready to go! A friend gave me the pattern* a couple of years ago, but after I made the first sample, I lost the pattern! Luckily, I remembered what to do, and wrote up my own instructions. There was no indication of who had designed it, so if you know whose pattern this is, please do let me know. I haven't seen anything else like it online. *The original was a one page, hand drawn pattern that looked like it had been photocopied a number of times. I interpreted the pattern in a completely different way from my friend. Let's get started! You will need: (2) squares of fabric, between 8" and 12". My sample was made with 10" squares. A piece of batting the same size as the fabric (or a little bigger). (4) coordinating buttons, optional. A walking foot, if you have one. Step 1: Layer the fabric, right sides together, on top of the batting. Step 2: Stitch 1/4" seam around perimeter, leaving an opening of about 4" on one side. Step 3: Trim away the batting from the seam allowances to reduce bulk. Trim as close to the stitching line as you can without clipping into it! Step 4: Turn right side out and press. Step 5: Top stitch close to the edge, closing the opening as you go. Step 6: Quilt as desired. I just kept going around and stitched concentric squares... ... until my bobbin ran out! Step 7: Fold the quilted square in half, right side in. Mark a 2" triangle in the corners. (If you started with a different size square, you may want to alter this dimension.) Stitch the 2 bottom corners, back-tacking at the beginning and end. Since I had used a Frixion pen for marking, I just needed to hit it with an iron to erase the line! Step 8: Open it up and fold it in the other direction, marking and stitching the remaining 2 corners. Step 9: Turn the box right side out. Step 10: I like mine with the points folded down... ... and the inside flaps tacked down. If you would like to eliminate the inside flaps, try Connie's modification with French Seams! Step 11: Stitch on some cute buttons, if desired. (I bought these buttons at Walmart. I think I need to go back and get more in every color!) Starting with 10" squares, the boxes finish at about 4" x 4" x 3" high. My original sample was made with Meadowsweet leftovers. I still love that collection so much! And this is the one I made last weekend for Barbara. This one started with a 12" square, so I made the sides a little higher (2.5" corners in step 7). Have fun with the tutorial and let me know if you make one! Edit 4/13/14: I am not affiliated in any way with the pattern being sold on Craftsy for $6. Edit 5/22/14 for clarification: The pattern I was given did not include any authorship information, or I would have given credit from the start. There were just a few hand drawn diagrams and cryptic text open for interpretation. It was not a copy of the pattern being sold on Craftsy. I wish there was a name on the original drawing, but there was not. I struggled with offering it online, but I felt my finished product was more detailed and my instructions were much clearer. I added the quilting and the buttons that were not included in the original. The pattern on Craftsy was not offered until after I had posted my free tutorial. I believe the designer used the ideas that I had fleshed out. If she used her own photos and text, there is no copyright infringement. I haven't purchased it, so I don't know that to be true. She claims there are design differences, but her sample in the Craftsy listing looks just like mine. It is even quilted the same way. I don't believe she is the designer of the pattern I was given many years ago. Because the basis for this fabric box was not my original idea, I struggled with offering the tutorial at all. I did not feel it was right to profit from it by selling the pattern. Again, I wish the person who drew the original diagrams by hand had signed her work. It is in the spirit of sharing that I offer this free tutorial. They look great filled with candy or a small potted plant. You may use it as a guild or sewing bee project. I had fun making these gifts for my convention roomie, my upline and her upline and a good friend! I used their favorite Stampin' Up! colors for their Bloom With Hope cards. The colors I used are Coastal Cabana, Rich Razzleberry, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, and Wisteria Wonder. I'm so glad we have White Satin ribbon again because you can color it any color you want! I used Coastal Cabana ink and a sponge dauber to color the white satin ribbon. Then I have perfect color coordinating with the Blendabilities and the ribbon! So easy, fun and pretty! Here is what it looks like inside with the pocket to hold the cards and envelopes. I used a 7-1/2' x 6-1/2" piece of card stock and scored and 1/2" and 1-1/2" on the sides and bottom. I cut out the corners and then attached it to the back with sticky strip. These are all the supplies that I used: Bloom With Hope Wood-Mount Stamp Set $23.00 Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' Pad $5.95 Crumb Cake 8-1/2" X 11" Card Stock $6.95 Hardwood Wood Stamp Set $17.95 Hardwood Clear Stamp Set $13.95 Coastal Cabana 8-1/2" X 11" Card Stock $6.95 Stampin' Blendabilities™ Markers Coastal Cabana Assortment $11.95 Rich Razzleberry 8-1/2" X 11" Card Stock $6.95 Stampin' Blendabilities™ Markers Rich Razzleberry Assortment $11.95 Daffodil Delight 8-1/2" X 11" Card Stock $6.95 Stampin' Blendabilities™ Markers Daffodil Delight Assortment $11.95 Wisteria Wonder 8-1/2" X 11" Card Stock $6.95 Stampin' Blendabilities™ Markers Wisteria Wonder Assortment $11.95 Whisper White 5/8" Satin Ribbon $6.95 Wisteria Wonder 3/4" Chevron Ribbon $8.95 Crushed Curry 3/4" Chevron Ribbon $8.95 Cherry Cobbler 3/4" Chevron Ribbon $8.95 Cherry Cobbler 8-1/2" X 11" Card Stock $6.95 Stampin' Blendabilities™ Markers Cherry Cobbler Assortment $11.95 Labels Collection Framelits Die $26.95 2" Circle Punch $16.95 Large Scallop Edgelits Die $7.95 Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack $6.95 Crumb Cake Medium Envelopes $6.50 Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad $5.95 Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Refill $4.95 Soft Suede Classic Stampin' Pad $5.95 Table by StampinBuddy. Happy Sunday, peeps! Hope you're having a great weekend! It's my turn to hostess at the Paper Players this week, and I've chosen a rich monochromatic palette for you to play with: For my card, I began with the FMS sketch: and the Blooms and Wishes and Beautiful Bouquet stamp sets: I randomly stamped the floral images in the three challenge colors on a circular panel, then matted it with another circle of Berry Burst. Perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and family reunions. • Set of (10) 4" round coasters with different statements • Pressed paperboard coasters (think bar coasters) with foil imprinting • Reusable with care COASTER PHRASES INCLUDED IN THIS SET: Not that kind of stuffing, pervert. Dinner topic idea: gross health issues. One of these a-holes voted for you-know-who. Don’t leave a ring on this cheap table. Got a beef with religion? Bring it up! Better hope that’s not hereditary. Sometime, when I've got a list of things to remember to do as big as a mile is long, I become manic, chaotic, and down right panicked. Sometime, when my living room rug screams to be vacuumed, but falls at the very bottom of the above mentioned list, I buckle under the weight of the season and can't think of any reason, not to bundle the kids up, lace up my own boots, and go play outside. And sometime… When it's the eve of Christmas eve…the snow is falling outside in the most enchanting way, and the finishing touches are being put on the last of a few holiday gifts, I allow myself to get overwhelmed by the greatest of it all. I have been very conscious today of my now… blame it on the spirit of Christmas but there was this calm but excited energy in our house. A feeling that mirrored all the big things this weekend will bringing with it, but a subtle humbleness that pulsed throughout the day. Is still echoing within our walls and I can only hope that it will carry over, with an even flow as long as it can. {This is Calvin's recipe book we had to follow, which is not something he gets from me} To me it's Christmas' eve's eve, that I focus on throughout the year. It's when the excitement can really flow, because school is on break, extra all's are on a standstill , the reason to deny all the outside pulls, is never more accessible … the 'too soon to start most thing, to late to do others' limbo'd stress is over and I strive to somehow manage to pull off a balance for productivity and play. Kicking off all the most magical time of the year right. {Coat peanuts with equal parts butterscotch & chocolate chips that are melted together… Mom calls them Peanut Clusters… The kids and I renamed them as Reindeer Evidence} I'm happy with the balance of today, I can only hope to repeat it tomorrow when the games official begin, but until then, I'll continue to allow She & Him's Christmas album, rock my world right around the Christmas Tree, refuse to acknowledge the amount of candy the kids have eaten, fuel the giddiness that already simmers in my belly with some Christmas cheers, and declare "Kiss me it's Christmas!" until I can't declare it no-mo'. Tomorrow's list is still long, but I'm feeling as prepared as ever for Santa's arrival, which is more worrisome than I would have thought…. but for now… we wish you a magical weekend from our home to yours. Merry Christmas friends!
Whispers of autumn... Or perhaps more accurately put: howls and cries of autumn... It is here now, in full flow (or should I say full blow?!), and any attempts to keep the ground clear of leaves is an activity as futile as trying to make a worm dance the cha-cha-cha. So, having given up on both, I decided to once again emphasize autumn in a corner of our garden, with - even more - conquers, some home-grown grapes, the chandelier my father made for me many years ago, and a couple of the wooden boxes that happened to join our family on a visit to Sweden in the summer (a local shop was redecorating and sold off all their display furniture and details - these boxes were only GBP 2 each!)... The Swenglish Home is a very quiet corner of the blog world at the moment, and will probably be so for the next few weeks, as time is eaten up by other commitments. Again, I would like to thank you for all your lovely comments, a particular thank you to new or anonymous readers I have not had a chance to reply to yet - I read and appreciate every word! Wishing you all a fabulous, colourful, autumn cosy and simply spectacular week!

Good morning- Here is another sympathy card that I whipped up the other night real quick. I loved the one using these colors & this stamp set that I posted a few days ago. You can see it HERE! So this is another version that I created. I would call this a clean & simple card. I do really like it though. And the colors are definitely me! Gosh I've sent out a lot of sympathy cards lately. stamp set: 'Bloom with Hope' card stock: Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Whisper White ink: Black Stazon pad, So Saffron Stampin' Write Markers: So Saffron, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip supplies: Paper Snips, Dimensionals & Sponge Daubers ++++++ Juanita's visitation was nice yesterday & we are glad we got to see some old friends that we haven't seen for awhile. The boys were really good. And of course- they were the highlight of the day for many. Any time you take twins someplace you get all kinds of questions & comments & attention to say the least. The boys got to see Great-Grandma & Great- Papa Axmear & Great- Grandma Sharon, so they were all thrilled! Last night was a late night burning the midnight oil for both me & Deke. He was moving pigs & power washing & I was cutting card stock. Nothing like eating supper at midnight. Ughh....not my favorite thing to do forsure. I'm off to pick up the boys here soon. Deke should be in soon from doing his morning chores to shower & head out the door again, as he has 2 meetings today. Brayden will be riding the bus here after school, so we are looking forward to seeing him. Both Deke & I will be burning the midnight oil again tonight. He'll be power washing again & I'll be cutting card stock again. Oh my- what an exciting life we live huh! I hope you have a very special Thursday!! Happy Stamping! Hugs! SUSIE
Hello Peeps !!! Happy Wednesday !!! I thought this stamp set Hand Delivered is just too cute not to show off. I used Lemon Lime Twist and Daffodil Delight color combo.
