I really love to give handmade gifts, especially at Christmas. I hate feeling rushed and stressed in December. So, my gift making begins in August :). I saw this great card on Pioneer Valley Girl, and she put up a little tutorial. I couldn't resist! They go together really quickly, and they are one of my favorite things - a great way to turn scraps into something beautiful and useful. I varied only slightly for the instructions, making my cards on fabric foundations rather than paper, and the dimensions of the rectangles are slightly wider. And look at this stack of gorgeous Anna Maria Horner Little Folks voile! These are destined for my next Christmas gift project. More on that soon.

Here's a 1979 shopping carrier bag from W. Smith, a leading newsagent, stationers and music shop. When Winston Smith retired from the Records Department at the Ministry of Truth, he decided to open his own high-street Records Department in Scarfolk. Daily newspapers were updated every 3 minutes and anyone possessing an out-of-date edition was arrested, prosecuted for dissent, and declared a "Scarfnot" (An "unperson" in Scarfolk). Books were also constantly rewritten and "unbook" tokens were available. These tokens could be exchanged for any given book's amended pages. Indeed, some books were corrected so frequently that maintaining a single book could run into hundreds if not thousands of pounds. A book's contents could change drastically. For example, by 1979, the erotic sci-fi thriller, "Affordable Brothel of the 9th Moon of Jupiter," bore little resemblance to its first edition, which was originally titled the "New Testament," a story about a Galilean carpenter who opens a budget furniture store in Sweden. Most people found it easier not to buy or read books. Items for sale week of 06/11/1979: All magazines/comics - 65p: Women Weakly (Highlighting the disruptive and damaging role of women in society). Telescreen Fun (A weekly cartoon strip singling out individual children and deriding them for personal indiscretions). Rats 'n' Laughs (Hilarious images of people's expressions when hungry rats in cages are attached to their faces. Plus prisoners' letters). Music dept: "It's Inner Party Time!" and other public confession LPs & tapes - £3.99.

Welcome to the PDF download (via Google Drive) for my version of the inner part of the Colour Wheel in the 2024-2025 Stampin Up Catalogue. I'm so pleased to say that Stampin Up have given permission for me to share this. Instructions: Download the PDF from Google Drive and save to your computer Print off or copy the page from the catalogue that you will attach the inner circle to. This is page 132 of the catalogue. I would suggest that you download the digital version of the catalogue to print from however a photocopy may be fine to use too. Use Basic White Thick cardstock for this and the inner circle so that they are sturdy. Print the PDF at 120%, as this should fit the page in your catalogue correctly. You may want to play with this scaling a little to suit however this worked just fine for me on my HP printer. Cut out the circle and then use a scapel to cut away the black areas to create windows for you to see through. Use a split pin to join through the centre of both the larger and smaller circle. This is what your printed wheel should look like - you can keep it as an A4 like I have or have it cut into a circle like the one that was gifted to Demonstrators - the choice is all yours! The link is HERE I'm really hoping this actually works and that you will enjoy using this until such time as an official one is available for purchase. Please take the time to go back to my first YouTube video explaining colour theory to fully understand how to use this great tool. If you have any questions or need help with yours, please send me an email using the contact form on my blog. Whilst you are here, please leave some love on my blog and be sure to pop back again soon to see what else I've been up to. Happy Stamping, Rachael xx

This super fun and engaging phonology resource uses ‘feeding’ as a reinforcer to implement phonological therapy in a way that will motivate your kids. Each animal is associated with a sound (e.g. ‘r’ for rhino and ‘w’ for whale) and these are what you use as the reinforcement for minimal pairs therapy: you have to feed the right animal the right card… or the right food! Visual prompt cards are provided to help your kids remember what sound they have to use for each animal, and I’ve also included some handy pacing boards to help drill and repeat minimal pairs cards. Therapy activity ideas for auditory discrimination tasks, as well as the word-phrase-sentence level are listed to get you thinking how to use this in your room. Minimal pairs can be such an effective way to treat the phonological process of Gliding, so you'll find color and black and white images - you can easily have a set for the therapy room and send some cards home for kids to color and practice in an easy print-and-go format. ===================================== CONTENTS: ✅ -- 3 different feedings mouths for Gliding pairs (whale for ‘w’, rhino for 'r' and lion for 'l') ✅ -- Food pictures that go with each animal (use as reinforcers) ✅ -- Color & Black+White Pacing Board to help with drilling pairs ✅ -- Minimal Pairs cards in Color & Black+White - 9 minimal pairs for R-W and 9 minimal pairs for L-W ✅ --Total of 36 cards (18 minimal pairs) ===================================== What SLP's like you are saying: ❝ These are one of my favorite new materials to use with Pre-K kiddos! It was highly engaging with lots of opportunity for different levels of practice. I wasn't sure how my 3 year-olds would take to it, but they loved it! I appreciate the low prep! The pictures are great.❞ ❝ I have so many students that I'm using minimal pairs with, and these are great! Do you know what cognates are? Do you use them in your classroom? If you have ELLs in your classroom (even if you're not a bilingual teacher) you should be using them!! Or maybe you are a Dual Language teacher and have students learning Spanish? Use cognates!! For some strange reason my students adore that little word and we talk about it EVERY SINGLE DAY in our classroom. If you were to come into my classroom and ask one of my students what cognates are, they would simply say: words that sound about the same in English or Spanish and share a similar meaning. That's it! Pretty easy to understand...right? Let's see some examples from the Cognates Wall in my classroom: Some cognates are spelled the same in English and Spanish, some others aren't and that's ok. Like I tell my kids: as long as they sound close to another word and they remind you of a word in Spanish. Why should I use cognates in my classroom? Cognates are a super powerful strategy to use with ELLs. They are able to make a connection between the two languages and build their comprehension. Every time we are getting ready to read a new text, I immediately ask my students to look for cognates and underline them. Other times, while my students and I are talking, a cognate will come up. I usually say very quickly and excited: THAT'S A COGNATE!! Eventually, the kids start telling me when they find one and it becomes an exciting little game! WATCH OUT FOR FALSE COGNATES!! Unfortunately there are some words that appear to be cognates but they aren't. Remember that cognates have a similar sound and definition. Some words sound the same in English and Spanish but they DO NOT share the same definition. For example: the word embarrassed is usually misused by bilingual students because it sounds similar to "embarazada" in Spanish which means pregnant! We certainly don't want our kids misusing that word lol! The word carpet in English is similar to "carpeta" in Spanish. However, "carpeta" means folder. If you are going to teach cognates to your kids, you gotta watch out for these tricky words. Remember, when in doubt, just Google it! If you tell your students about false cognates they will be aware and understand not all words are cognates! And let me tell you... they will LOVE to find those false cognates. Here is a link to my favorite list of cognates. (By the way Colorin Colorado is an amazing website with very helpful articles on teaching ELLs). I use this list every day! Remember to talk to your students about false cognates, they will learn to recognize them faster than you think!
