Very fine preservation of an original copper coin from the German States – Saxe - Coburg Duchy. Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, or Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, was an Ernestine, Thuringian duchy ruled by a branch of the House of Wettin, consisting of territories in the present-day states of Thuringia and Bavaria in Germany. It lasted from 1826 to 1918. Ruler: Albrecht III. Albrecht of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (born May 24, 1648 in Gotha; died August 6, 1699 in Coburg) was Duke of Saxe-Coburg from 1680. Value: 1 Heller. Year: 1681. The Heller, abbreviation hlr, was a coin, originally valued at half a pfennig, that was issued in Switzerland and states of the Holy Roman Empire, surviving in some European countries until the 20th century. Obverse: Capped A between 2 palm branches. Reverse: 4-line inscription with the date. Lettering: CO BURGER HELLER 1681. Size: Diameter 13.2 mm. Weight: 0.72 grams.
