Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad - The first trip of the California Zephyr passenger train over the Denver & Rio Grande Western portion of the route occurred on March 21, 1949, the westbound and eastbound trains meeting at Grizzly siding in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado. That historic moment is the subject of this picture which portrays the eastbound consist, hauled by ALCO P (ABA) 600, on the main track (left), while 601 with the westbound California Zephyr waits on the side track.
