Away from the hubbub of the Parisian boulevards, these arcades are a refuge in which it is all too easy to while away the hours sipping tea, sifting through antiques or just meandering through independent art galleries. What’s more, their beautiful architecture is a nostalgic nod to 19th century Paris.

Louis Dewailly, mayor of Amiens, decide in 1888 to construct a clock in the neighbourhood of the railway station. The iron column was built in rococo style. A few years later, sculptor Albert Roze added a statue in bronze of a women (the godess of spring). As you can see for yourself, she was topless. The (shocked) people of Amiens baptised her as "Marie Sans Chemise". It was a place where lovers meet each other. The beautiful clock was lost in the Second World War but a replica was replaced in 2000. In the background the world famous and amazing Cathedral of Amiens, the biggest gothic cathedral of France. www.wolfgangstaudt.de Notre-Dame de Reims is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Reims, where the kings of France were once crowned. It replaces an older church, destroyed by a fire in 1211, which was built on the site of the basilica where Clovis was baptized by Saint Remi, bishop of Reims, in AD 496. That original structure had been erected on the site of the Roman baths. As the cathedral it remains the seat of the Archdiocese of Reims. A major site for tourism in the Champagne region, it received half a million visitors in 2006. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
