It is navigable for about half that length. The river is strongly associated with The Gambia, the smallest country in mainland Africa, which consists of little more than the downstream half of the river and its two banks. Geography From the Fouta Djallon, the river runs northwest into the Tambacounda Region of Senegal, where it flows through the Parc National du Niokolo Koba, then is joined by the Nieri Ko and Koulountou before entering the Gambia at Fatoto. At this point, the river runs generally west, but in a meandering course with a number of oxbows, and about 100km from its mouth it gradually widens, to over 10km wide where it meets the sea.

Questo libro è una raccolta dei risultati ottenuti dalla Fédération des Paysans du Fouta Djallon nell'integrazione dei giovani nel settore agricolo. La prima fase è una breve rassegna del fenomeno migratorio in Media Guinea e delle ragioni che hanno spinto l'organizzazione dei contadini a intervenire nell'insediamento dei giovani. La seconda riporta i risultati della collaborazione con l'École Nationale d'Agriculture et d'Élevage de Tolo (Scuola Nazionale di Agricoltura e Zootecnia di Tolo) nell'ambito dei tirocini che gli studenti hanno svolto presso i suoi membri. La terza sezione riguarda i viaggi di ispirazione organizzati nella subregione dell'Africa occidentale e in Europa a beneficio dei giovani, alcuni dei quali sono stati in grado, al loro ritorno, di sviluppare e acquisire un certo grado di autonomia nelle loro aziende agricole o in altre attività intraprese. La quarta sezione esamina le consultazioni con i gruppi di giovani nella regione e il sostegno fornito a quelli che hanno creato o sono stati sostenuti dal 2011. Questi giovani raccontano le loro esperienze e le ambizioni di sviluppo che hanno per i prossimi anni.
