If these next 3 months of school aren't the BEST time of the year, than I'm not sure what is...well ok there is this one day called the last day of school, but that's a whole different story! October is full of pumpkins, bats, and spiders. Then November brings my birthday, fall weather, and our Thanksgiving feast. Last comes December when we go all out for The Polar Express, and Holiday parties (I hate we don't call them Christmas parties) and a 2 week vacation! But backing up to October...in the next few weeks we will talk about bats, spiders, and pumpkins. We have been learning about the short vowel sounds since the second week of school. Our district is implementing a new phonics program, so it has been a little v-e-r-y slow getting started...but none the less, we are truckin' now! Next week we will finish our last short vowel {Praise the Lord}. I created a pack of short vowel word work for the month of October to go hand in hand with all our fun units! Included is a pumpkin, bat, and spider themed vowel sort. I have included directions at the end of the packet so be sure to make your way all they way to the last page : ) Click on the picture to download! Here is a peek at what you can expect! I can't wait to share with you what we are doing for our bat, spider, and pumpkin units! Here's one thing I'm super excited about: Another teacher and I bought a mini pumpkin to plant and watch grow...only it takes 95 days for it to mature (they made sure to leave that off the packaging)! I am going to leave you with a question and 1 more freebie! Have one of your student's ever asked you if they should spell a word with a 'c' or a 'k'? It's only my 2nd year of teaching and I can count on both hands (and toes) plus some more how many times I've heard that question. Well here is a cute little saying I learned from our phonics program that helps the kids remember which to use: "K takes i and e and c takes the other 3". Confused yet??? Here is a visual I made for my kiddos to refer to when writing. You can click on the picture to download! So clever, so cute, AND so glad I now have the answer to their questions (if I didn't already know how to spell the word of course!)
Just the title makes me wish I was on a boat, drawing up the anchor, sailing away into the sunset without 6 and 7 year old crazies....ahh...20 more days well, until school is out *cancel* the boating dream. Speaking of anchors and my complete love-fest with making anchor charts to fancy up learning and my room (courtesy of Cara Carroll and Abby Mullins), I have created 2 new charts the past few weeks to introduce a few grammar concepts to my firsties. ~Pronouns~ ~Prepositions~ ---------Here are a few I have made in the past!--------- I'm in the process of remaking them on the computer to put into a packet just-for-YOU!!! Can't wait to share the final product with you. Hang in there...tomorrow is Friday!

Short stories and poetry are great, but it's usually a novel that fosters a true love for reading in the English classroom.This #2ndaryELA Twitter chat was all about teaching novels. Middle school and high school English Language Arts teachers discussed the novels they use at different grade levels. Teachers also shared their methods of reading: whole class or literature circles, in-class or independently as homework. Read through the chat for ideas to implement in your own classroom.

I have taken my class (not voluntarily of course) on an inferencing adventure! If you've been reading my blog for any period of time now, you know that I absolutely love to make anchor charts to introduce any and every topic. My inspiration for the "Making Inferences" chart came from Mrs. Richardson's Class. Essentially, schema plus picture clues leads to making an inference. It took my firsties awhile to catch on to the new "lingo" but after some great activities they were inferring like champs I tell ya! I would be a lot less great of a teacher if it weren't for the ideas of others who have inspired me. I introduced the concept of making inferences through a little thing called the Mystery Box....ooooooo! {Thanks to good ol' Abby for this one} I put this thing out and about in my class a few days before the lesson and the kids were drawn to it already (so my plan)! After debuting the anchor chart, I gave each of them a clue (4 different ones handed out randomly). They had to copy down their clue then roam around the room finding other friends who had the missing clues they needed. Once they had all 4, they read them and then made their inference using the clues and their schema. They LOVED this so much, we had to do it again a few days later. A GREAT way to introduce the topic! Throughout the week we also read a few David Shannon books (one of our favorite author's). Duck on a Bike, No David!, and David Gets in Trouble are great read alouds to have conversation about making inferences. Another great inspiration from{Mrs. Richardson}....making inferences with David. Of course you've gotta add the craft! Too cute! I wanted to leave you with a book that just blew.me.away. with it's ability to teach inferencing. I stumbled upon this book when googling inferencing ideas. Needless to say it is now one of my favorite books!! It's about two ants who take a journey and get caught up in all kinds of trouble. The best part is, the author never tells you where the ants are. He leaves it to the picture clues (and of course your schema) to infer. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! I cannot stress it enough. Pure inferencing perfection. Go check it out now! {I feel like I'm yelling...but it's really THAT good!}
Would you like to decorate your classroom with fun, hand-drawn anchor charts/posters? Do you simply not have the time to get them done? Well, you have come to the perfect place! I love making these engaging and appealing anchor charts. I also can draw/create any other topic you would like, just contact me directly and ask! My students absolutely love these posters and references them every day. Many of them are visual learners, so the colorful images really help them connect and remember what they have learned. This particular anchor chart is for readers/writers practicing "R" controlled vowels. These can be a little tricky for students, so using the "Bossy R" character seems to really help them understand the rule. It will be approximately 32 x 24 inches, and will be a copy of my original. **These will be copies unless asked otherwise for a custom poster. They are not laminated, and are printed on normal, anchor chart paper. I ship these out ASAP after being ordered, but please keep in mind once shipped, it is outside of my control. Therefore, if shipping does not meet your expectations, I highly encourage you to please reach out to me first, and we have always been able to work something out to make up for anything that may have occurred after I have sent your package, thanks so much!! Hope you love it :)

The buckets are packed with goodies, and the kids were soooooo excited to start our new guided reading groups this week. I have 5 different groups with 4 students in each group. Each group will be reading a different Jerry Spinelli novel: Wringer, Report to the Principal's Office, Maniac Magee, Loser, and Fourth Grade Rats. We do guided reading each day, and all groups work at the same time. My resource teacher works with me during this time, and she meets with (runs) the same group each day - she works with my below grade level group. I meet with two different groups each day (I read with one group, then I work on the task with a second group). This way, I meet with each of my four groups every second day, and my group that needs help the most has teacher support every day. Our overall focus for the next four weeks is Literal Comprehension (this is our division focus for my school). Each group also has a subfocus they are working on in their groups (vocabulary, phrasing, expression, accuracy, and conventions). I know conventions isn't a typical guided reading group focus, but for this particular group, it is a necessity! On Tuesday we built our Literal Comprehension Anchor chart - establishing our learning goal and building our success criteria. Each student copied this chart into their reading journals. This is one of my student's journals. I was WOWED by it - such attention to detail! (Now, if I can just get her to stop spelling summary with an 'e' I will be one happy teacher!). Each day after reading the students have two tasks. First, they need to answer literal comprehension questions from their reading. They can discuss their answers as a group, but each student is responsible for writing their own answers in their journals. The next task is something new I started this year. I created a Summary of Learning sheet for each group which I posted on my bulletin board. Each sheet has the novel name and the groups' subfocus written on it. After each day of reading, students are required to write one thing they learned from their reading each day on a special coloured sticky note. This should relate to their group's subfocus. They then post their notes on their sheets on the bulletin board. I created a special "Summary of Learning" section in my guided reading binder to keep track of all these sticky notes. Each day as I take down the old sticky notes so the students can post their new ones, I will add it to their page (a piece of blank paper inside a page protector). It will be so neat to see the growth in their reflections. Happy Thursday!!! Establishing consistent accountability when using the workshop approach to teaching and learning may seem daunting at first. After all, your students are producing, and consuming an immense amount of content during workshop on a daily basis…far more than you can (and want) to grade. The good news is, you don’t have to grade every activity. I know what you’re thinking…”If I stop grading every single thing…there won’t be enough accountability.” The reality is, there are other far more efficient ways to establish accountability and boost meaningful student growth. One of these ways is routine student self-reflection. If you’re ready to bring more student reflection to your classroom, these tips can help you establish routines that maintain consistent accountability in your workshop classroom. Creating Rubrics Together A foundational rubric will help you and your students create a common language that can make ongoing assessment more meaningful and fluid in your classroom. Begin by pulling the rubric your district requires you to use, or write a rubric that communicates your parameters for each level of understanding in your classroom. Rewrite this rubric in your own student-friendly language so you can share these parameters with your class. Making a slide or poster for each level on your rubric so it is easier for students to digest may be helpful. Set aside time in your schedule each day to create a one-week series of work sessions when you and your students can rewrite the rubric again as a class using language that is actually produced by your students. You may opt to: Have all slides/posters on display simultaneously while students rotate to stations where they work in groups to make meaning of each level of understanding. Students can then write their interpretations on the slides/posters, which can be aggregated on the final day. Display one slide/poster each day and host a class conversation that facilitates meaning-making for each level of understanding. Record student ideas as you work toward a common, and final definition for each level of understanding. At the end of these series of work sessions, you and your students will have a rubric that is unpacked by them, rewritten by them, and ready to be used by them. Working together as a class to write a final rubric that will be adopted as the foundation makes conversations about assessments more meaningful and productive. Rubric Drawers Once your class rubric is created, you can make it easy for students to consistently reflect on their work by submitting any assignments to “rubric drawers” that are marked with the definitions for each level of understanding. This built-in practice of self-reflection builds students’ intrinsic motivation to reach higher and produce quality work. If you notice your students have a tendency to submit work to the “wrong” drawer, this signals they need a follow up lesson on the type of work quality required to achieve each level of understanding. Using exemplars (examples of each level of understanding from a particular subject area or activity) can help students build a stronger definition for what work quality looks like. As students build their ability to accurately assess themselves, you can also have them attach a short note of justification for their self-scoring. This will provide insight about any misconceptions they may have about their work or the rubric levels your class has written. If you want to track the score students give themselves on an activity, provide a special pen or stamp that allows them to mark their score before placing it in the drawer. In addition, you can have students submit work with the help of a partner. Once an activity is complete, a student can briefly confer with their assigned partner to get feedback, and make a decision about which drawer a piece should be submitted. This provides an additional layer of motivation for students to reach higher, as they know a peer will be reviewing their work quality. Reflection Letters Another routine that can boost student growth through self-assessment is the writing of reflection letters on a routine basis. Students thrive when they know they have an important role in their assessment process, and will be eager to read your response. Begin by creating a prompt that asks students to reflect specifically on different areas of the assignment that will support their goal setting and goal progress. Also direct students to refer to their rubric to self-assess, and provide justification for their assessment as part of their reflection process. This routine will remind students the importance of keeping the rubric in mind as they complete their work each week, which will foster stronger performance. Set aside time to read these reflection letters and write brief responses which may include your own score using the same rubric, and comments that support your scoring. This written dialogue further emphasizes the value you place on student work and growth. If you find the need to differentiate this letter writing process to support the unique needs of students in your classroom. Here are some differentiation ideas: Have students dictate as you record their reflection. Have students circle their score on a rubric and mark evidence with color-coding or sticky notes. Provide sentence frames to scaffold independence. Self Assessment & Reflection In Your Classroom Ready to give self-reflection a try in your own classroom? Here are a few editable tools to help you get started. Once you’ve established student self-reflection routines in your classroom, stop by and share your experience. I look forward to hearing about the growth your students make, and the freedom you feel from teaching in a workshop classroom where accountability and engagement are off the charts.
It’s hard to wade through the internet searching for the most hilarious book memes, so we’ve compiled a complete list of all of our favorites right here!
Snazzy title, right? Guess I'm not feeling too creative today. But that's okay, because I spent some quality time with my computer. Summarizing, like theme, isn't just something you can teach a unit on. You have to keep coming back and coming back and coming back. It all started with this pin on Pinterest: Source: rundesroom.blogspot.com via Megan on Pinterest I thought, WOW! How easy would it be to do this run down every time we read a book? Then I can easily hit summarizing over and over and over and over and over. You get the idea. So, I decided to make my own version because I have an obsessive need to coordinate. Duh. Then, while writing this post, I decide to check out where the original came from. And it's a blog I already follow! Guess I started following after this post. The blog is Runde's Room, and it's awesome. She even has a whole fictional narrative unit to go with it in her TPT store. (FYI-I checked with her before I shared my copycat version.) Anywho, here's my version. Click on the post to download it. I would actually like to stack 10 or 15 post-its on each square in the poster. Maybe we could do something with them after we write on them? Like a mini summarizing board? I don't know. I'll let you know how that goes. Click on image to download. I had it printed at Office Max in an 11x17 poster for about $1.50. I know, I know. Good thing Office Max isn't a real man, or my husband might start getting jealous. Then I started thinking maybe a poster wasn't enough. Maybe I would want something bigger sometimes. So I made it for the Mimio. It will at least be great for the beginning of the year when I'm introducing it. You can download the Mimio lesson here. Take some time and go visit Jen at Runde's Room for some more great ideas! So what about you? Do you have any good summarizing strategies?

Hey, my name is Amira Asmodea. If you come often to my website I think you're really going to like these spells, especially if you've already read my article about spells to make someone think of you. If this is the first time you read an article of mine, don't forget to save the website address so you can come back soon, do it now! Would you like to be in someone's mind all the time? Would you like your boyfriend or ex-partners to think and dream of you constantly? Today we will see a spell to make him dream of you, so you're always on his mind. This small white magic spell is perfect for many applications. You can use it if you recently break up and you want to recover him; or if you're in a relationship and feel that your lover is not thinking about you as much as he or she should; or if you love someone and want to be on his mind all the time. These are just some examples of the uses of this spell to make a man dream of you. It is also a great spell if you are interested in someone sexually. His mind will open to you in ways you had not imagined. Spell to make a man dream of you You will need: White cotton fabric Cotton to use as filler Paper Lavender Rosemary Needle and thread How to make the spell to make a man dream of you: You will have to make a small pillow. To do this, first cut two pieces of fabric and sew three sides of the rectangle or square. If you want the pillow to be circular, then sew all around, leaving a little hole in order to fill the pillow. Then fill the pillow with cotton. In the end, remember to put inside Rosemary and Lavender. Use the needle and thread to close the pillow. Then write the name of the person that you want to spell on the paper, and then write exactly what you want. For example "Dream of me going to the park". Then, prepare your altar and trace your magic circle. Once it's done, stand and hold the pillow with your two hands, hold the paper together with the pillow and pronounce the following incantation: "Oh Morpheus, Oh Hypnos, Ancient gods of the night! This is (person's name), Please stay on his bed and help me as well as I will thank you. I elevate my voice strong and high, To the place where the dreams are made. I send this message clear and powerful: Make him dream of me all the dark night." A Wicca spell to dream about you If you do it correctly and throughout the two-week period I recommend, you will be able to invade that special person's mind with affectionate dreams and thoughts for you, and attract the relationship you are looking for. While it's not a love spell, it can have a similar effect and can certainly trigger the healthy love relationship you want. This spell is inspired by Wicca's practice and will really work if you do it the right way. This is because Wiccans follow the cycles of the moon and sun and rely on daily rituals in their religious practices to achieve their own personal goals. But you don't have to invoke a God or Wicca Goddess if you don't believe in them. There's a very simple explanation for why the spell will work anyway. The universe is full of various forms of energy and it is through how we harness those powerful cosmic forces that we will be able to achieve what we want for our lives. This energy is filtered through each atom of matter in the cosmos and can be easily used to achieve various purposes. In my opinion, Wiccan spells are simply a method that allows us to channel and focus this energy. Secondly, the mind is very powerful. The belief that something will work for you is often rewarded with success. Like the power of placebo in medical studies, anything you can convince yourself of is going to work for you and do just that. That's how powerful the mind is. Harnessing the power of the universe and directing it with your consciousness, this ritual spell has the power to change your life. Our dreams are one of the most influential factors of our psyche. All dream spells are simple charms and simply insert images into the minds of the subject on which they are made. It's a subliminal process and in most cases, the person will never know what's going on. But when done correctly and for the appropriate amount of time, the images you implant will begin to occupy more and more of your mind awake. This should lead to a receptive environment for you to try to start a relationship with him or her. How will you know that this spell for me to dream about is working? Pay attention to your behavior during each encounter. Is he getting shyer around you? Do you catch him staring at you? Does he tend to smile in your presence when he used to? Pay close attention to your body language to assess the effect of this spell on your potential relationship. Don't be surprised if he asks you out. This spell has the power to infect your mind with images of you so it can approach you without the slightest idea why it's doing it. You may feel that I should simply talk to you because of the power of thoughts you have placed in your mind. Also, don't be afraid to start an interaction if you see signs that the spell is working. Finally, this spell can also be used if you're already in a relationship that needs a nudge or to recover an ex-lover from your past. You don't have to be looking for a new partner to do this spell. So, if you want to make any man dream of you, simply execute this spell as follows. "Dream of Me" Spell You must begin this spell on a new moon night. This moment is extremely important. This is when the moon is completely dark. This darkness symbolizes the mind of your potential partner and the absence of thoughts, the void present for you to act. Start this ritual during the new moon and continue every night for two full weeks until the moon is full. Perform the spell just before going to bed, as this is also very essential. Preferably, the spell should be completed when you are tired and ready to sleep. I suggest going to bed every night at the same schedule. You must not skip any night or vary the time each time you do this spell. If you can achieve it correctly, the next full moon your lover's head will be as full of thoughts of you as the moon in its radiant reflective light. Do the spell with very little or no light inside your room. You don't have to wear a candle or burn incense to prepare, but enter a state of complete relaxation and calm. You can use Yoga to accomplish this, but anything can work as long as it's right for you. You must clear your mind of any wandering thoughts that are going around. Set aside the events of the day and any other potential distractions before you begin. Now start filling your mind with warmth and desire. Think only of the person you want as you begin to focus every thought and image you have on this amazing man. Start imagining his face, his posture, or any recent memories you have of your encounters with him. Once you've focused on visualizing the person, add the feelings you've had for them to this mix of thoughts. It can help to smile or display any body language with which you express your interest. This will strengthen the connection between you and your potential lover, which you are building through this ritual. Do you have butterflies in your stomach when you think of him? Let yourself be explored and expressed during the ritual. Are your thoughts about him primarily of a sexual nature? Feel free to caress your body if this allows you to expand your connection with it. Keep meditating only on the images of this man until your feelings become so intense that you can almost feel his presence in the room with you. This can take as little as five or ten minutes or as much as half an hour. Once you reach this level of connectivity with it, then it is time for the next step of the spell. Pin me on Pinterest! Now, visualize you two somewhere acting like a couple. You can choose anywhere, such as a café or a secluded beach. It can be a completely fictional scenario or somewhere where you've previously met it. Once you've chosen this place, continue using the same visualization for the next two weeks. Focus on this scene of the two of you being together alone. Remove all thoughts from anyone else in your mind. Now, keeping this image firmly in your mind, say aloud the following spell: "This scene I have created, Just for your mind to invade. I want you to wake up in love, Dream about me and just for me. There we are silent, We'll be together and we'll be the same. Give me all your thoughts, Tonight you will dream of me." Once you say the spell, fill your mind once more with an image of it and gradually go to sleep. If you have a photo, this can be very useful. Check his Facebook or Instagram profile for a photo if you find it hard to keep his image in your mind unaided. Hold your phone with your photo on it during the ritual if this helps you focus only on it. It is very important that you do nothing more between spell and sleep, as other thoughts can cloud the process and dilute the effectiveness of the spell. I wish you luck in conquering the man of your dreams or reconnecting with the one you already know. If you want, you can combine this spell with one Spell to make someone call you. Both spells can be used at the same time to improve the chances of success. Here ends this spell to make a man dream of you.
