Students will catch on quickly to this Go Fish style card game. It’s played much the same, but with a twist. Students have to know the meaning of the Spanish terms in order to claim the card. And, if the asker gets it wrong, the student being asked can claim the card for his own! ¡A Pescar! is a fun and effective way to reinforce Spanish language vocabulary. This deck focuses on dinner foods. 24 foods are included (2 pair of each). What you get: • Printable deck of 96 cards covering 24 foods. Print as many decks as you like, either in color or black and white. I print mine on cardstock and laminate them before cutting to make them last longer. I have 6 sets to satisfy 30 kids. • Printing and cutting instructions • 2 pair/4 cards for each of the 24 foods. • Student instruction/rule sheet with Spanish terms included for play. Printing Instructions: • Decide how many decks you need. Up to 6 people can play per deck, but 4 is better as play goes faster. • Print the decks on cardstock. When printing from the PDF file, CHOOSE PRINT ACTUAL SIZE. This prints the biggest cards with less waste on the edges. • There are 12 sheets per deck. Print as sets, and keep the sets separate so you don’t have to sort them out later (not fun). • Laminate if possible to make the decks last longer. • Using a paper cutter, cut cards between the lines which leaves about 1/8th inch of white space around them. • Bundle them into decks. • Print out rule sheets for student use. I print mine on cardstock and laminate as well. They print 2 sheets to 1 page. Make at least 2 sheets per table of play so all students are sure to use the card-playing vocabulary! • Play! I have mentioned my cookie-cutter collection elsewhere, and knowing of children's predilection for the grosser things in life, how could I resist — when given a set of foot-shaped cutters by a friend back from New York — making some suitable cheese-tasting biscuits with them. There was a time, years ago, when this was on my table pretty much whenever I had friends over for a lazy Saturday lunch. And I love it still. It’s simple and undemanding to make, and can equally offer summer sprightliness or winter comfort, and in summer you might certainly consider scattering over basil on serving, along with the parsley. The sauce itself (rather like the eggs in a carbonara) is not actually cooked, but warmed through as it’s tossed fragrantly with the hot pasta. I find when cooking such an amount of pasta (though bear in mind that this recipe halves easily enough), it is always a good idea to put the pan on to boil quite a bit before you think you need to. Once it’s come to the boil, you can switch off, cover the pan, and know that you are almost ready to go. And finally, may I suggest that with the two egg whites you have left over, you make a batch of Forgotten Cookies within two days, if the egg whites are kept covered in the fridge... A new scientific study shows that eating cheese may actually increase how much someone likes the wine they are drinking. The study, published in the October issue of the Journal of Food Science, used a new sensory evaluation method and found consuming cheese while drinking wine impacted the description and preference of different wines.
