I've been obsessed of late with a small little something I didn't even know the proper name of until just a few weeks ago. That tiny, decorative element that appears in a printed book, placed between two sections of type to indicate a pause in time, or a change in narrator or point of view. The word commonly used to describe it today is "dingbat," but that term, according to the OED, did not come into use until the 20th century. And dingbat also refers to any typographical device other than a letter or a numeral. The older, and far more specific term, is the lovely word fleuron.

Monarda bradburiana is a perennial in the Lamiaceae family. Common names are Eastern Bee Balm, Bradbury's Beebalm, Horsemint, and Wild Bergamot. A native to the southeast United States in the mint family. It grows 2 feet tall and wide. The weird square branches make this one different. The flowerheads are around 2 inches wide and cone-shaped. The florets will come out of the center first and tubular-shaped. They are five-lobed in lavender, light pink, or even white color. Blooming in mid-summer until early fall, they would like full sun to part shade. They can grow in soils well-drained with strong acids as well. Zones 4-8 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
