Looking for a free barn quilt themed quilt pattern? The Quilt Trail uses Barn Quilts fabric by Tara Reed for Riley Blake Designs.
This pattern, which is a twist on the Classic "Tennessee Waltz" Quilt, uses what is known as a Pineapple Block rather than the traditional "54-40 or Fight" block to achieve the look of curved piecing without sewing any curves. The 12 page PDF contains detailed cutting charts and instructions for strip piecing the 4-patch units. Two methods for making the V-block units in the Pineapple Block are explained, with the quilter having the choice of either using a specialty ruler or paper piecing templates (included) in order to achieve precise results. Please note that this listing is for a digital download of the pattern. You will not be shipped a paper pattern. Finished size: 70 x 92" Supplies needed: FABRICS: This design works best if you stick with a background fabric and two main colors. You can still achieve a scrappy look if you desire, but I suggest you pull your scraps from 2 main color palettes. If you are going scrappy, coordinated fat quarters work well. You will need: Background fabric 4 yards Color 1 (grey in pattern) 2.5 yards total Color 2 (red in pattern) 3 yards total* * More fabric will be required if you prefer unpieced borders SEWING MACHINE & BASIC QUILTING SUPPLIES: Iron and ironing surface, spray starch for pressing fabrics, pins, scissors, 50 wt. cotton thread for piecing, seam ripper, fabric marking pens or pencil, rotary cutter & mat. SPECIALTY RULERS: • 3.5” square up ruler • Creative Grids Half Rectangle Ruler • Half Square Triangle Ruler, and • Your favorite ruler for cutting strips OPTIONAL: Hera marker or finger pressing tool “Add a quarter” ruler for trimming seams. This is an INTERMEDIATE level quilt.
I love this red barn. That’s all. ps. I couldn’t find the source for this photo. I came across it on Pinterest, but there was no link. I even did a Google image search and nothing came up. I tried!

Good morning and welcome to the Our Daily Bread Designs April Release Blog Hop! This month's release is all about quilts! And we are so happy you have joined us as we share our creations using these new stamps and dies! As always, there is a chance to win! Here are the details: Three randomly selected winners will each receive a $25 Gift Code to the ODBD Store just for commenting on the Design Team cards! You have until April 2, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. EDT to leave your comments on the Designers Blogs for a chance to win! The Winners will be posted on the ODBD Blog on April 3rd, so be sure to check back there to see if you won! Here is my first card: This card features the Star Quilt Die and the A Time to Mend stamp set. I love the look of a solid cream or white quilt about as much as I love the ones with the homespun fabrics. After cutting the quilt, I used tape on the back to keep all the pieces in place before removing from the die. I also adhered the 'quilt' to another piece of card stock for added stability. I popped it up over a layer cut with the Flourished Star Pattern die adorned with a Beautiful Border. I cut the sentiment with a die from the Filigree Frames die set. I finished the card by adding a couple of Bitty Blossoms, a pearl center and pretty pink seam binding. Here is my next card: This card features the Dresden Quilt Die, the All Mothers set, and the Cozy Quilt Paper Collection. Y'all, this paper just evokes all sorts of comfy, cozy, grandma memories for me! I hope it does for you too! I can remember spending nights with my grandma, and having so many quilts on the bed that you couldn't even turn over! But we sure stayed warm and cozy! :) The sentiment is cut out with the Log Cabin Quilt Die. It fits perfectly! This quilt is mounted to a Layered Lacey Square and popped up over another sheet of the Cozy Quilt Paper with a Leafy Edged Border. A button and some matching twine finish the card. Here are the ODBD products I used for this card: Filigree Frames Dies Bitty Blossoms Die Layered Lacey Squares Beautiful Borders Dies Flourished Star Pattern Dies Leafy Edged Borders Dies Remember to comment on all the designer's blogs for your chance to win! Sorry to be away for so long. There is a lot to catch up on, and I'm afraid that my summer vacation has gotten in the way of my blogging! But yesterday, I heard from Kathy Thebault, from northern New Hampshire, and I got excited about the quilt trail again! The town of Errol has 342 residents (Kathy says there may be more moose than people). As of now, they also have five barn quilts, with plans to expand the Coos County Barn Quilt Trail next year! The trail got started when resident Sharon Miller worked with a local high school to design and produce her blocks. As a follow-up, the local Errol Heritage Commission, headed by Deb Freedman, Errol Consolidated School, and Shady Ladies Quilt group came together for a collaborative project of creating barn quilts. The group designed and completed 3 blocks together, over a period of six weeks. I thought, "Gosh, it took six weeks?" until I read further and found that Errol Consolidated School is made up of 15 students (elementary and middle). For the seven middle school children, this became both a community project and an educational opportunity by learning math problems to grown small paper size blocks, to large 4x4' blocks. The yellow and red geometrical-designed quilt at the top of the page is called Sunny Bolt. The block was created after an original quilt designed by one of the middle school children made in 2005. The original quilt was a project between the school children and the local quilt group. The mountain block is on a home in Errol. The owner decided on that design as her house faces Mt. Washington and has a perfect view of sunrise. The block is her reflection of the view. It's the mountain, moon and rising sun. The last block with the patriotic bunting is the Piece Star and is also located on a home in the center of Errol. The home is that of the Chairperson of the Heritage Commission. She has been instrumental in starting a heritage commission for the town and building momentum for various heritage activities. I am so pleased to add state number 30 to the roster of locations where the quilt trail has spread! If you have updates and/or photos to share, please email me [email protected] The book, Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement, is available for preorder on Amazon.com. It won't be available for a few months yet, but if you are an early bird and want to get in on a great discount. . . I will also have autographed copies available for order here once the book is in hand. I can't wait!

Amish Star features the 8 pointed star in the center surrounded by triangles and squares. The double sided version looks great when displayed at your mailbox or as a yard sign! The eight-pointed star appears in a traditional quilt block called the "Amish Star." However, there's no historical evidence that the Amish originated this pattern, although it appears in Amish-made quilts. There's also a staple of contemporary rustic decor often advertised by retailers as an "Amish Barn Star." Sometimes produced by Amish craftsmen, the five-pointed star turns up on interior and exterior walls in both urban and rural settings. Possibly a throwback to the original barn stars, these modern stars have no connection to the Amish culture and no particular meaning. They're simply decorative.

Do you remember when I wanted a barn quilt, but I soaked in my bathtub while my son drew all the painting lines for me? And do you remember the time I had to patch 100 screw holes in my kitchen because I had drilled so many screws into the walls? Both of those stories illustrate something I'm embarrassed to admit ... I can be kind of lazy. But sometimes laziness pays off when I figure out an easier way

I've kind of gone nuts this year sharing DIY Christmas ornaments, but since I wanted a specific theme for our Christmas tree, it was easier to make the ornaments myself than search all the stores looking for just the right ones. Since the theme I picked is 'simple farmhouse', I brainstormed what comes to mind when I think of farmhouses, and quilts immediately came to mind. I remembered the barn quilt my son and I made together in the spring, and the quilt-inspired chair I
