Taiyou Con is steadily becoming one of my favorite small, anime conventions in Arizona. I always want to start the year off with a decent convention and this year I had THREE options: Taiyou Con ACE Comicon Anime Los Angeles Since I will be doing a considerable amount of traveling this year ALA took a back burner to ACE and Taiyou. After applying to both events, it was Taiyou who proved the better customer service rep (ACE…you really need to improve your communication with interested parties). So I collected my photography equipment, submitted panels, gathered my cosplay crew and took
Here’s what happened. . . . “But I HATE audiobooks.” That was my initial reaction when Editor Vicki threw out the pitch for an article about listening to audiobooks by someone who doesn’t like them. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved books. Like many of you, dozens of childhood hours were spent hiding under blankets with a flashlight and a pile of new reading. As an adult, it was easy to stay an avid reader during my employment at America’s favorite brick-and-mortar bookstore. Periodicals, art books, nonfiction. . . you name it, I’d read it. Except for audiobooks. I

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) brought in an estimated $220 million during its opening weekend in North America. That’s a lot of people. What many fans of the franchise don’t know is that before the new film arrived, it was precluded by the book series Journey to the Last Jedi which leads up to the film. Even fewer fans probably read the series. Among those books were Leia: Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray, and Phasma by Delilah S. Dawson. These books filled in some of the gaps within the saga, as well as provided more depth to the new film.

The day before Phoenix Comicon 2017 I had the chance to interview a very talented body painter. Brandon McGill is the owner, operator and face of Art by Brandon McGill in Phoenix, Az. He is a self trained artist who shrugged off the cape of corporate America so that he could dive into his passion and create art on the human canvas. Here are a few examples of his work that we acquired from his FACEBOOK galleries… About Brandon Brandon has painted over 420 people, transforming them into characters, abstract emotions and moving art. Last weekend I was HYPED about Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. So excited, in fact, that I did not even take a look at reviews because I wanted the full, unadulterated experience of watching a movie without preconceived notions in my head. Before I get into my review of this movie here is a bit you should know about it… It’s based on the comic book series Valerian and Laureline. It’s directed by Luc Besson. There are HUNDREDS of aliens in it (so many that I won’t be able to cover them here). It’s FUN to watch
