Silhouettes are simple, affordable, and timelessly classy in kids' playroom and living room. Also, silhouettes are a wonderful way to convey drama, mystery, emotion and mood to the viewers of your photos and often stand out in an album because of the combination of their simplicity but also the story that they convey. A framed silhouette is a classic keepsake and makes a thoughtful Christmas, birthday or Mother's Day gift. A digital camera/smartphone, craft knife, computer and printer make this centuries-old craft a snap. Classic and sweet, each of unique hand cut silhouettes is made just for your families! Designed off of your photos, silhouettes are the perfect decorations to adorn any room. Step 1: Take a Photograph Silhouettes First, grab your subjects and have them stand in front of a contrasting wall. Use a white wall, but a dark color would work just as well. Get right down on their level, as not to distort their facial features. The photo can include the entire back of the head and the neck, which is important for getting a true likeness. When you're trying to take a photograph of your littest loves, try getting them occupied with the television or other such muses so you can more easily capture their sweet little relaxed silhouette. How to Photograph Silhouettes in Easy Steps - Let Subject stand to the right or left side - Make sure the entire head/hair is the photo - Get on eye level with subject including their upper arms and shoulders and making sure they have a relaxed face, not smiling. - Pay special attention to hair details in three places: the crown of the head, the forehead (bangs), and the nape of the neck. - When taking the profile picture, make sure the camera is level with their heads and not tilting upward or downward at them (if the camera is tilted up or down it makes for a wonky silhouette). - Long hair is best in a bun or ponytail for a neck line. Step 2: Cut Background & Silhouette Use a craft knife to cut cream or white cardstock to fit frame opening which is 5 by 7 inches. Tip: Use subtle textured cardstock backing. Step 3: Glue Silhouette Using a ruler, determine the center of cardstock and mark center. Apply craft glue to back side of silhouette. Center silhouette, then gently press down and hold in place while glue adheres. Tip: Keep glue away from silhouette's edges to prevent excess from squeezing out. A stunning keepsake to treasure for years to come, custom hand cut child's silhouette is the perfect addition to your home décor.
