Courtesy of: http://www.thepotteries.org/mark/m/meakin_jg.html J&G Meakinwas a pottery company founded in 1851. In the 19th century, J. & G. Meakin was known for the vast quantities china it produced for the domestic English market and for export . From around 1970, the newer wares can be distinguished by backstamp markings such as 'permanent colours' or 'dishwasher proof'. J & G Meakin had close family and business connections with the pottery Johnson Brothers, and Alfred Meakin, which explains why many patterns are very similar. Johnson Brothers, originally a British tableware manufacturer, was noted for its early introduction of ''semi porcelain'' tableware. Some of its designs, "Eternal Beau", "Dawn", "Old Britain Castles" and "Historic America", achieved widespread popularity and are still collected today. The company's name derives from the names of the company's founders. Their father married the daughter of a master potter, Alfred . The firm was taken over by the Wedgwood group in 1970. In 2000 production under the Meakin name ceased and their long-established works, Eagle Pottery, was then used for the production of Johnson Bros pottery. Eagle Pottery closed in 2004 when production was transferred abroad; the works were demolished in 2005. Dansk design was an American company. Their chief designer was the Danish sculptor Jens Harald Quistgaard . :Click on the link for a short video on Jens Quistgaard Photo on courtesy http://historyrepeatedagain.blogspot.co.il/2012/08/a-rough-guide-to-dating-dansk-kobenstyle.html: More than 4.500 individual pieces designed by Jens H Quistgaard went into production in his lifetime. From boats to cooking pots, from knives to chairs. At the peak of his career in 1960s and 1970s, Quistgaard was the most prolific Danish designer around. From the mid-1950s his tableware and kitchenware designs became synonymous with Scandinavian modern and found their way into millions of homes in the USA, Europe and Japan. His enamel on steel tableware and kitchenware series from 1955 was called Kobenstyle. Kobenstyle was produced in Denmark and was sold in four colors in the first year: Turquoise, Yellow, Red and "Lime Green". Photo on courtesy of: http://historyrepeatedagain.blogspot.co.il/2012/08/a-rough-guide-to-dating-dansk-kobenstyle.html Since 1959 a universal identifying mark for use on the entire Dansk line: Photo on courtesy of: http://historyrepeatedagain.blogspot.co.il/2012/08/a-rough-guide-to-dating-dansk-kobenstyle.html The four ducks mark is only on items made in Denmark (1959-1965).These are more sought-after by collectors. On late 1965 the first new designs in a decade are introduced in the Kobenstyle line, the pans are altered and now have teak handles, the colors are changed and production moves from Denmark to France. Selecting your leaves: Skeleton leaves can be used in scrap booking, gift wrapping and other crafts. These leaves are beautiful and lacy. Skeleton leaves are also very simple to make. The first step is to collect leaves you want to skeletonize. The easiest leaves have tougher skeletons - oak and maple leaves are best suited. Delicate leaves will also do, but may tear when using the washing soda method. The Water Method: The easiest way to make skeleton leaves is to simply put them in a bucket of water and wait until the pulp falls out of the leaf. This might take 2-3 weeks, but the process is gentle to the leaf and is effortless. The water has to be changed every few days, as the pulp begins to fall out of the leaves. The water will also become rancid quickly, if not replaced. You can add some bleach to the water to prevent it: simply add about 1/4 cup bleach to a bucket of water. Once all of the pulp is gone, remove the leaf skeletons and allow them to dry. The Washing Soda Method: It is possible to make skeleton leaves by using Washing Soda. Washing soda is sodium carbonate, and can be found on grocery store. It can also be made at home, from baking soda. Making washing soda at home is detailed on: http://www.pennilessparenting.com/2011/01/homemade-washing-soda.html. Fill a saucepan with 2 cups of water and 3 tablespoons of washing soda. Stir. Bring it to a boil, and then remove from the heat source. Put the leaves in the washing soda solution and allow them to soak for approximately 30 minutes. Since I don't have access to maple leave,I used Pitanga leaves http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenia_uniflora The leaves are gently transfered to a clear glass dish with some tap water in. Palp is removed with a blunt paint brush. After 30 minutes, remove the leaves, one at a time , to a baking pan with shallow water in. Use a blunt paintbrush to gently remove the leaf pulp. Be careful not to tear the leaf skeleton. Once the pulp is removed, set the skeleton aside to dry. Different kind of leaves might need longer times. If pulp is not easily removed I transfer it to a few days to the water method treatment... If you want a white leaf skeleton, place it in a solution of water and some bleach. Allow it to sit until all traces of green are gone, then dry. Dying Skeleton Leaves Skeleton leaves may be used white, but they can also be dyed. Basic food coloring is one option.Simply submerge the leaves in a solution of food coloring and water and allow the skeletons to soak until they take up the color.
