Error analysis is a really important skill for students to master. I'm sharing more about how I teach error analysis for test prep in my classroom here!
Have your students perform error analysis instead of corrections for a quiz or test! This form lists out the three types of math errors and asks students to identify which error they performed and explain why their error is of that type. It then has them solve the problem correctly. To those new to error analysis, in the "Error Type & Why" box, students may write something like: Computational. I multiplied 3x7=35. Conceptual. I thought alternate interior angles were supplementary instead of congruent. Careless. I put 35x2 into my calculator instead of 53x2. The idea is to get students to think deeply about their errors. In this way, error analysis is superior to simple test corrections. A fun phrase is included at the bottom of the front page: "Remember, mistakes allow thinking to happen. Don't worry; Your math teacher still thinks you're sigma, no cap. :)" A Powerpoint version of the form is included with your purchase that has an editable textbox so you can take that out, put in your name, or change it altogether.

This error analysis activity will make your students really think about arithmetic sequences. Students identify incorrect statements about: the values of missing terms in a sequence, whether a sequence is arithmetic or not, a sequence's common difference, and term values past the given terms. Students are then asked to fix each error on their answer sheet. On each card there is a sequence and 3 statements about sequence values or common difference. Students need to figure out which of the 3 statements is false (the "lie"), then correct the false statement on their answer sheet. This activity gives students practice with identifying the parts of arithmetic sequences, using the arithmetic sequences formula, and recognizing errors when they occur. There are 10 cards, a student answer sheet and an answer key included. Error analysis is a great way to get your students engaging in higher level thinking! My students love being the teacher and finding other students' errors. In this product, you will get 8 different error analysis problems all related to exponent rules. The product rule, the power rule, the quotient rule, and negative exponents are included. Rather than the traditional error analysis routine where students know each problem is incorrect, these problems include both incorrect and correct work.
