If you’ve worked with epoxy resin before, you’ve probably noticed that the result does not always have a crystal clear surface, but rather a matte finish. Luckily, there is a very simple procedure to give your resin project a beautiful gloss: epoxy resin polishing. Learn more about how to polish epoxy resin after sanding below. Getting started Sanding and polishing epoxy resin are two very important steps that can make or break a project. While sanding resin removes any excess product and smoothens the surface of your DIY project, polishing can help you obtain that perfect, shiny finish. Objects such as resin art and jewellery, tables, floors, and other wooden objects are suitable for subsequent polishing after curing. Sanding epoxy resin Sanding epoxy resin is basically preparing the resin for polishing. Sanding reduces dust formation and is, therefore, safer for your health. To get the perfect surface for your epoxy resin work piece, sanding after curing is essential. So let’s see what we need to sand epoxy resin and how to do it properly. What you need: Soap Sandpaper Suitable for larger areas, we recommend wet sanding for effective blush removal. Wet sanding is normally done by hand. Wet sanding removes amine blush while you sand, reduces clogging of the sandpaper, and reduces dust and exposure to partially cured epoxy. Curing can take up to 24-48 hours. Step by step instructions: Use soap and warm water to clean your resin project. Wet sand the resin with 400 grit sandpaper to remove any scratches. Sand it again with 600 grit sandpaper, then with 800 grit sandpaper, 1000 grit sandpaper, and finally with 1500 grit sandpaper. Dry off the resin piece and apply the polishing compound across the surface as instructed below. Polishing epoxy resin - step by step Thorough polishing is the cornerstone for a perfect surface. Polishing resin is a pretty straightforward process that just involves cleaning, sanding, and applying a polishing compound to your resin piece. What to use to polish resin: Polishing compound for epoxy resin Microfiber cloth or towel Buffing wheel or polishing tool Power drill *If you want to polish shapes or small objects, it is sufficient enough to equip a standard drill with a special polishing attachment. Step by step instructions: After sanding, apply the polishing compound across the entire surface of the resin. Rub the compound into a small piece of resin using a microfiber cloth. Move the cloth in circular motions and apply extra pressure to areas that have visible scratches. Use a buffing wheel (or any polishing tool) to polish a larger piece of resin. It is best to attach the buffing wheel to a power drill so that the process is easier. Apply it as evenly as possible until the resin is shiny and smooth. Rub the surface with a microfiber cloth to get a glossy finish. How to polish resin with a Dremel If you are working on a smaller piece (such as charms), using a Dremel tool will do just the trick. Go over the entire piece as necessary and avoid using too much pressure. Be sure to keep the piece moving and not buff any one area for more than a couple of seconds. Wash with soap and water to remove any polishing compound residue. You can always finish the process by hand. The basics are the same. If you want to work on edges or straight surfaces, you can simply wrap the wooden block with a cloth. What if something goes wrong? Mistakes can happen even to the best crafters. However, it is important to know how to prevent and fix common issues that can arise. How to fix cloudy epoxy There are a number of factors that can lead to a cloudy epoxy: humidity, texture of the mold, and temperature of the resin. To avoid cloudy epoxy, make sure you do not work in humid conditions and that the mold is clean and completely dry before pouring. The resin must also be the correct temperature for the correct finish - 122°F (50°C). If it’s too cold, it can affect the finish. To warm up the resin, place the bottles of pre-mixed resin in warm water and let the resin warm up before mixing. Lastly, keep in mind that if the surface of your mold is shiny, the resin will be shiny. If your resin is still cloudy after taking these precautions, you can mix a small amount of the resin you used to cast your project. Use a paintbrush and paint a light layer over the top of your project. This will add that shine back. Then let it dry again for 24-48 hours in a covered box. Prevent and cure bubbles Warming up the bottles of epoxy prior to using is key to preventing bubbles. When mixing the resin and hardener, mix slowly, making sure to scrape the sides and bottoms of the mixing container. If epoxy is stirred fast, it creates more bubbles. When pouring your epoxy into a mold, pour very slowly and from one side of the mixing cup into one side of the mold. If bubbles are present in a cured piece, use a razor blade to pop the bubbles and create an open cavity. Mix a small amount of epoxy to fill in those holes; let cure for 5 hours then re-flood the surface. Epoxy turned white Epoxy can turn white due to high humidity or when the coating was not completely dry at the time of application. Assuming that the coating has fully cured, the only way to fix the problem is to sand it thoroughly and apply another coat on top. Wrap up Don’t settle for dull epoxy projects! Let your workpiece shine through! And don’t forget that, when using a polishing compound, working in small sections will ensure an even shine for your project.

But those sharp edges detract from the look and feel of your finished piece. They’re also vulnerable to damage and can be sharp enough to cut. That’s why experienced furniture and cabinetmakers soften the exposed edges of their work with a chamfer or radius. Woodpeckers EZ-Edge Corner Planes make quick work of edge relief without changing bits in your router or plugging in anything. Just a few quick strokes with one of the four planes and you have either 1/8", 3/16" or 1/4" radius or 45° chamfer.

Industrial Floor Wax - Medium-Gloss Finish TI Floor Shine Polish is an economical, buffable coating for previously sealed surfaces. This easy-to-use acrylic/wax hybrid will provide durable protection for the underlying sealer Fast-drying Easy build Water cleanup Safe to use SLIP RESISTANCE: Floor Shine Polish adds slip resistance! It meets or exceeds CSPA and UL slip resistance standards when tested in accordance with ASTM D 2047, and when properly maintained COVERAGE: One gallon coverage averages 300-400 sq ft. If applied a little thicker, 150-200 sq. ft. per gallon. If applied evenly with a good microfiber applicator pad, up to 600 sq. ft. Beware claims from sources that say "up to 3,000 sq. ft." of coverage from a floor wax! A gallon of water can only spread so far leaving a film... Using a light spray and microfiber applicator, it can be stretched dramatically but its effectiveness wanes a lot. 3000 sq ft is 0.16mil final film... That is .00016 of an inch! It is reasonable that you could apply this (or any) wax and get 1000 sq ft per gallon, which would be about 0.5 mil. A second coat of wax and you would have a full mil thickness of wax- which is still ULTRA THIN and NOT much protection from a film standpoint. The purpose of a wax is to protect the floor sealer, which is pointless if you put it on so thin it will be gone a week later! What is Floor Wax? Floor wax is a sacrificial coating to protect a coating or flooring system from scratching or damaging a surface. Floor wax can be burnished or polished to achieve a high-gloss shiny appearance. In areas where your finished floor is going to see lots of foot traffic with a nonslip coating, floor wax is a sacrificial wax coating is often necessary to ensure the floor’s design is not permanently damaged by abrasive wear and tear. Wax for concrete floors provides an excellent protective, or surface wear barrier in both residential and commercial applications. Wax can give a polished look that will help make floors cleaning easier. View Data Sheet Floor Shine Polish (FSP) is an economical, slip resistant floor finish designed to provide high gloss and high durability to previously sealed surfaces. FSP can be applied over solvent base, water base, and epoxy and urethane sealers. FSP is long lasting, buffable, easy to apply and maintain, and provides a clear, very hard coating that is designed for interior only surfaces and to withstand heavy pedestrian traffic. FSP exhibits excellent resistance to scuff and black heel marks, and acts as a renewable wearing surface that extends the life of the base sealer and protects the interior surface while providing increased gloss. Ideal uses are for chemically stained floors, or other commercial concrete flatwork or decorative stamping exposed to high traffic such as terminals, lobbies, showroom floors, restaurants, schools, malls, as well as residential kitchen floors, and living spaces. INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS: TEST AREA: Always test TI FSP on a small area of the surface to be treated before overall application to determine suitability and results. Use a test location that is out of the way and not in the main area of the final area. SITE PREPARATION: Surfaces must be clean and free from oil, paint, wax, sealers, curing compounds, related surface stains, rubber marks, dirt and laitance. Use a trusted degreaser for removing grease, oil, or rubber marks if present. After cleaning, rinse the surface thoroughly with potable water and allowed to dry completely. APPLICATION: Pour TI FSP into a mop bucket and gently squeeze out excess material. Close container after each use. Do not place mop into a bucket wringer and mechanically compress out, which can cause foam build-up and possible bubble formation in the finish coat. Apply the TI FSP in a figure 8 motion that allows for 20-25% overlap and no missed spots. Allow to dry 15-25 minutes between coats. If applied on top of a solvent based acrylic sealer such as Stampsheen, allow the sealer to cure for a minimum of 48 hours prior to applying the FSP. FSP will harden in approximately 4 hours. Allow 24 hours to dry completely. CLEAN-UP: Use soap and warm water promptly after application, before the TI FSP is allowed to dry. MAINTENANCE: Clean surfaces with mild soap and water. Abrasive cleaners, strong chemicals, acids and floor strippers can damage the final seal, in addition to abrasion from pedestrian traffic and routine scuffs and scratches. Rinse thoroughly and completely with water after cleaning. Floor Shine Polish typically lasts up to one year depending on traffic volume, concrete surface hardness and wear. TI FSP may be buffed as needed with a suitable buffing machine and pads. COVERAGE: Approximately 150-200 square feet per gallon (36.8-49.0 square meters / liter). CAUTIONS: Do not dilute or thin. The use of a polyester fiber mop (microfiber) is recommended to achieve even leveling, avoid the use of cotton mops. Apply when the surface temperature is above 50°F (10°C) and rising. Do not apply in conditions of high wind, blowing dust, or high humidity. Do not apply if water exposure is expected within 24 hours of application. Early water exposure can cause permanent whitening or discoloration. TI FSP is not suitable for concrete subject to chemical or caustic exposure or containment, warehouse floors, or applications that are exposed to subgrade water or under continuous submersion. While they are wet, sealed surfaces will be more slippery than unsealed surfaces. Not recommended for use in exterior applications or on pool decks or smooth, wet areas that have high pedestrian use. Do not use on surfaces which will later receive concrete overlays, toppings, coatings, or joint sealants. TI FSP is to be applied on top of concrete that has been sealed with TI clear or tinted sealer products. FSP may be used on countertops as long as food is not introduced until product is cured. Frequently Asked Questions About Floor Wax: Question: How many coats of wax do I have to apply? Answer: It’s entirely up to you and your preference for protection and sheen Question: Do I have to buff or burnish the wax? Answer: Technically no, but for best results, we recommend doing so – especially in cases where you’re looking to create a very smooth glossy finished floor coating. Question: Can wax stand alone as a floor sealer? Answer: It is not recommended. You will want to first seal the surface with a concrete sealer/coating (sold here).

Live Edge Rosewood Floating Vanity Our Rosewood live edge floating vanities are the perfect addition to any bathroom. They can be custom made to fit a variety of spaces. The vanity tops are coated 5-7 times since they will be in close contact with moisture. We coat them several times to ensure that no water absorption occurs since it will be in close contact with water everyday. The floating Rosewood vanity pictured was custom made for an antique hammered bronze sink. In this case the customer provided the sink and we took care of the rest. We used a CNC to make the cuts which are precise to 0.001". The counter top can be modified to fit a variety of sinks. One of the more popular styles is a vessel sink. Every piece we make is custom made according to specifications in which the vanity top will be installed. Our standard finish is matte and we also offer semi gloss and gloss. Furthermore, if additional storage space is needed we can add a second piece or create complementing drawers underneath. The floating brackets are included free of charge. Sink and faucet are NOT included.
