Description Engaging interactive Women's Suffrage Hexagonal Thinking Activity Google Slides and Printer-Friendly resource! Perfect for distance and "in-person" learning! This resource includes two hexagonal thinking activities related to the topic of women's suffrage. Use one or use both! This resource includes BOTH digital and printer-friendly versions! What is Hexagonal Thinking? Hexagonal Thinking is a visual tool to help students make connections and organize ideas on a topic. This activity is great for strengthening and deepening understanding of content, and utilizing different learning styles! Students will be engaged and having fun! Activity #1 This resource could be used in several ways. This activity could be used throughout a unit on women's suffrage (with students assembling hexagonal clusters after each lecture/discussion/activity, or as a review before an exam, or as a summative assessment. After students have finished arranging cards into clusters, students will write a short essay using words from their completed clusters. In their essay, students will explain the relationships between the words in their clusters. Activity #2 This resource is a hexagonal thinking and writing activity that is intended to be used in conjunction with the podcast, The Agitators: The Story of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. This resource includes hexagonal thinking samples and teacher tips. Links are included. The Agitators: The Story of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass is a six-part podcast series based on the friendship and activism of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony. Episodes range in length from 21 minutes to 26 minutes in length. This resource would work with any episode in the 6-part series. I share episode #3 with my students. Episode #3: Reconstruction: 1867 and 1869. Episode description: In the years after the Civil War, Frederick and Susan fight to make the United States a country for all – where everyone can vote. What gets in the way of this dream? Will their friendship survive betrayal?) This resource can be used with distance learners or "face-to-face" learners. A description of the podcast series: The Agitators tells of the enduring but tempestuous friendship of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. Great allies? Yes. And at times, great adversaries. Young abolitionists when they met in Rochester, New York in the 1840s, they were full of hope and a common purpose. As they grew to become the cultural icons we know today, their movements collided and their friendship was severely tested. Follow these brilliant, flawed, and rebellious activists with host Ashley C. Ford. Their message still matters. This six-part podcast is based on the play The Agitators; playwright Mat Smart used historical documents to imagine Susan and Frederick’s conversations. The Agitators is brought to listeners by the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, the National Park Service, and PRX. This resource includes: -Over 100 hexagonal cards with vocabulary related to the Women's Suffrage Movement -Reflection Activity -Answer Key -Instructions, tips, links, tips, and example (animated GIF of a hexagonal cluster being assembled) - Printable version of hexagonal cards and student instructions is included! (Simply save file as a PDF and print. Cut cards out and laminate for long-term use.) This activity is appropriate for distance learning and face-to-face instruction. This activity is editable.
