As a nod to bandweaving, we’ve collected seven of our favorite bandweaving articles and projects together into this special collection.
Description Book Specs The Brand By Kate Davies An inkling might be regarded as the very beginning of a thought . . . After an inspiring residency with the British Council and Applied Arts Scotland, Kate Davies took up inkle weaving and found that the experience of learning a new skill, completely from scratch, profoundly revivified her creative practice. Learning how to weave narrow patterned bands on an inkle loom allowed Kate to reflect upon the interconnections between different cultures and practices of making across the global north and south, and also helped her to approach the design process in a new way. The fifteen creative and colourful projects in this book are the result of such reflections. Alongside eleven patterns for hand-knitting—produced in Kate’s signature clear style, across an inclusive size range—are a selection of simple projects to weave on an inkle loom. This fresh, spirited, and colourful collection reveals the far-reaching creative potential of approaching design with a beginner’s mind and asking oneself, what if? Might you be inspired by some inklings of your own? Book includes 11 garment and accessory patterns for hand-knitting in Kate's Milarrochy Tweed yarn, plus 4 drafts for plain and pick-up patterns to weave on an inkle loom. Full colour, 108pp. Printed and bound in Glasgow. We also stock Ashford Inklette Looms which are perfect for the woven patterns! Paperback: 108 pages Dimensions: 21 x 21 x 1.3 cm Publisher: Kate Davies Designs My name is Kate Davies. I live by Scotland’s West Highland Way where I love writing, knitting walking, and swimming in the wonderful landscapes that surround me. I find that each of these activities has a creative and a critical dimension and the best of possible worlds is one in which I productively combine them all. Knitting is one of my greatest loves, and in 2010 (when a stroke at the age of 36 ended my academic career) I began Kate Davies Designs (KDD) creating digital patterns for hand knitters. The business lent me a platform to combine my skills in research, writing and design, and rapidly grew into a small publishing company through which I began to produce my own books. In Colours of Shetland (2012), Yokes (2014), Buachaille: At Home in The Highlands (2015), The Book of Haps (2016), Shetland Oo (2016), Inspired by Islay(2017), Happit (2017), West Highland Way (2018) Shore (2018) and Milarrochy Heids (2018) I bring my passions for historical writing and practical creativity together. Nothing makes me happier than seeing knitters all over the world enjoying my books and making and wearing my designs.

This document describes how to weave letters on a warp-faced band. It could be used with a backstrap setup, inkle loom, band loom, rigid heddle or a floor loom. The technique is easier to use than some other methods and forms letters which are relatively crisp. This is not a technique for beginning inkle weavers. In order to weave letters, you should first have an understanding of how to set up and weave on an inkle loom and some basic understanding of pickup techniques. The information contained herein can be found on my blog and obtained free of charge. If you want it in a document format which is easy to print, I have formatted it as such and offer it here for a minimal charge. The printable version is 3 pages and includes the warping diagram and the letter diagram as well as a written description. It also contains a link to a video on my YouTube channel demonstrating the technique. And this time is Spring edition time! With twelve (12) fruity, flowery and other abstract cheerful motifs that you'll be able to print or use digitally to mix and match and create wonderful textiles in your frame/tapestry loom. Krokbragd is a Scandinavian weaving technique that gives as result thick and compact textiles with plenty of colour usage. Scandinavian women used to wove rugs, blankets and tapestries with this technique, among other homely textiles for the daily life. It's a very interesting technique because with the same sequence that always repeats itself, and by just changing colours you can create an unlimited amount of designs. It's magical and really impressive! It's a 40 pages PDF ready to download and read from any device (computer, tablet, smartphone). What materials will you need? - A frame loom - Yarn - Yarn needles - Comb (a fork is always welcome as well) - Scissors - Dowel rod (optional) Main contents: - Data sheet & FAQ (with yarn recommendations) - Guidelines for grid/pattern reading - Understanding the sequence + a free video of the sequence put into action - Yarn interlocking (selvedges) - Step by step on how to make your amazing designs with these the included pattern grids. - 12 motifs (bees, peaches, strawberries, grapes, double petal flowers, tulips & more!) - 3 already made patterns in case you want to skip the mix and match part (bookmark, coasters, wall hanging) It's oriented to weavers who already have a basic knowledge about frame loom (how to warp it, how to tabby weave, extract textile from it, basic terms such as warp, weft, comb down, etc.). Inkle Weaving has been a lifelong pursuit for me. I started as a teenager in 1976 and now make my living as a weaver, teacher, and author of 2 inke weaving books. This 8-page document is a collection of Frequently Asked Questions. It includes information on how to choose a loom and yarns, how to make heddles and get set up, what to do if you break a warp or run out of weft and much more. In it, I share some tips and tricks and provide many links to further resources. Included is a 25-item glossary of terms associated with inkle weaving which will help clarify many things. All of this information is available on my blog: www.ASpinnerWeaver.com where you can view it for free. I have formatted it into the 8-page PDF which is offered here to make it handy for you to download and save for yourself or to print and add your own notes.

This listing is for a tutorial for making a bag with handwoven Inkle bands. The manual is purely for assembling the bands into a bag and, NOT, for weaving the bands itself. The bands you see in the bags i've made are predominantly paid patterns, hence, i have not shared any information on weaving the bands itself. However, i have provided a few options for plain weave bands. The document includes: - List of what you need - Detailed step-by-step instructions with pictures This item is a digital download and NOT a physical item. You may sell the finished items on a small scale. Do not mass produce.
