This activity is a fun way for you and your child to re-enact Gideon's battle! You only need two items: Cups and glow sticks... and a darkened room or go outside after dark. Let your child "break and shake" his glow stick so it begins to shine. (let him do yours, too. It's fun to break something and not be in trouble) Put the activated glow stick under a cup and march around in the "dark". On your signal, blow your trumpets; your clenched fist works well, or you can make one. (we made some for a previous activity here) Shake off the cup and hold the glow stick high in the air and shout, "For the Lord and for Gideon!"
Carles is an artist from Girona, Spain. His style is very cool and after I got back into comics and manga I just can't stop looking at his art. The pieces feel complete and I appreciate that a lot, I know how much time it takes to even just think about the background, to imagine little details that aren't really vital to the story. Yet all the posts you'll find on IG look to me like a ready to print artwork.
Gather a white piece of craft paper (I used about a 1-ft x 1-ft piece) or construction paper, crayons, and scissors. Fold the paper accordion style, folding the paper back and forth. (I made each fold about 2-inches wide.) Once your paper is folded, draw your person figure. Make sure the feet reach the bottom and the arms go to the ends of the sides. Once the body is drawn, cut it out. Make sure to cut through each fold of paper. This made 6 paper dolls. If you need more, repeat the above steps and tape together at the arms. If you need less, simply cut off some of the dolls. Start coloring each family member and continue until complete! Talk with your child about the importance of forgiveness. Joseph forgave his brother’s and we can forgive others too!

I've been tinkering with art forever, it seems, and over the last ten years, I've focused mainly on 3D video game visuals. In March, I decided to take on a new challenge, to give my creativity a good kick-start, to stimulate it, you know! I picked up my brushes again and, after a break of around twenty years, I started painting again. A month later, I decided to take a break from my regular work to have more time for myself, among other things to paint more. My goal is to have pleasure in painting on a daily basis and for this pleasure to shine through my paintings, through the lively technique, the assumed colors and also through the choice of subjects, often inspired by pop culture, games. video, animation and by my 3 boys, their interests and my own childhood. Thank you for loving art and purchasing original works from living artists! It is very appreciated! :D Bruno :) Original Acrylic Canvas Medium Size Figurative Painting Colorful Decorative Art Pink Purple Black Female Portrait Close-up Face This painting is entitled A Pug's portrait. I used to have my classes co-create an alphabet, but I truly did not understand the philosophy behind it when I first started. I thought it was more about having things in the room that were created by children. More for aesthetics than anything else. Because of this, I have had the same co-created alphabet up for the last four years. It was beautiful and the kids did such a great job. I thought of it as preserving history to keep their hard work up there. Now, after reading more about the reasoning behind it, I realize there are more important reasons for co-creating an alphabet with each class. When the kids work together to make it, they take pride in the product that they collaboratively made. They were part of the whole process! They decided together what they wanted it to look like, what art mediums they wanted to use and what should be on it to represent each letter. When they see the finished product, they feel as though they did something important! They feel a sense of pride. They are more personally invested in the product. Because of this and the memories of working on it together, they tend to use it more. Here is the process of co-creating our Alphabet this year. First we started learning the letters. We focus on a letter and a friend in our class ever day for the first month of school. This gets us familiar with the letters and sounds and to make connections with our names and our friends names. Then the kids came up with a list of things in our room that they have used or noticed to go on the word wall. Pardon the messy handwriting! I was writing things down quickly! They wanted to make the backgrounds colorful and chose water colors to paint them. They also were adamant that they have glitter on them so we decided to make the letters out of glitter. Our next step was to add things that began with each letter to help us find and learn the letter sounds. We checked our list and started taking pictures of our friends and objects to add to our chart. Here is an example. We taped them onto our backgrounds and voila! We have our letter wall! We left room on each one so that we can add each sight word as we learn them. That way they can use this wall as a tool to help them spell sight words and their friends names correctly. They can also find the pictures with the sound they hear when they are trying to spell a word but don't know what letter makes that sound. They will use this wall to aide them in learning independently. It was after creating this word wall with the kids that I noticed how important it is for each class to create their own. They were so proud and I see them using it all the time. It truly is personal and has meaning for them. SaveSave

Gather your supplies. You will need a sponge, scissors, washable red paint, a tub of dirty water (The Jordan River), a paint brush and something to squirt paint in. Cut a sponge to look like Namaan. Dot Namaan (your sponge) with red paint to show he has leprosy. Dip Namaan in the water Squeeze him out seven times to show his spots going away! Squeeze him out one last time to show that he is healed!!! Talk about how Naaman was healed, just by obeying and dipping into the Jordan River.
It's my last week!!! Wahoo!!! Sorry this post is late. (Thanks to Ana at Mrs. Bentin's Blackboard for the text message and reminder that I hadn't posted this week's linky yet. I guess that even though there's one week left, my brain has already left the building. :) So please link up your plans for the week. I'm guessing most of you have "home" plans because you are already on break and that is good too! Being the last week of school, there are a lot of end-of-the-year loose ends to tie up. We will have our awards assembly, AR goal ice cream party, a talent show and field day. Thankfully, there is something going on almost every day to help keep us busy. In the classroom, we will be finishing up our read aloud of this wonderful book. Love this book and the beautiful story of August. I also love how the story end on the last day of school, about the same exact day we will read this part and end our story this year. We've done quite a few readers theater scripts this year to work on fluency. This week, I'm going to have the students work in groups and write their own script. It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Today, I found this fun pin on Pinterest. I love this project (anything that incorporates writing and art is awesome!) and will find somewhere to work this into our schedule. Students write about their year then decorate their hand print and the border. I think it would make a great memory of our year. I'm working on making Goodbye Bags for the kids. I went to Walmart and the dollar store this morning and loaded up on lots of fun things. When I get it all together, I will post about it. I was thinking of continuing the A Peek at My Week linky party throughout the summer, linking up to share our fun summertime plans, but I was wondering what you think. Do you want to see A Peek at My Week continue? Please leave me your thoughts in a comment below. (Also, my Thursday linky party, Positive Thinking Thursday, will continue throughout the summer. Thanks to all of you who encouraged me to do so!) An InLinkz Link-up
