Students tend to be afraid of their first conversations in the Deaf community or at Deaf events. Practicing conversations that target vocabulary they will need at events helps build confidence. ASL Conversations is a non-threatening and fun way to build fluency with ASL and prepare your students for success. I use this with all levels of ASL. It's a good introductory practice for ASL 1 and helps review the skills students have forgotten in ASL 2+. The following topics are covered: Introductions / Farewells Getting Directions Buying Tickets and Food Making Connections Each worksheet has 4 parts: Vocabulary Review: Students take time with a partner to review the key vocabulary. Timed Continuous Practice: Set the timer and watch your students practice the vocabulary in a signed conversation. Start with 2 minutes and build up to 5 minutes. The challenge is to sign with each other without stopping. Sentence frames are provided as a scaffold for students who need help. Finding employment in Haiti is difficult, but especially hard on those with a disability. We are happy to be able to provide opportunity for those who struggle to find steady employment.
