Hello Everyone!! Subitizing has become a big component of our math curriculum over the last few years. Subitizing is "instantly seeing how many." This coming week, we will work hard on seeing groups of objects as a quantity, a unit, part of unit, or pattern. Exploring subitizing cards with kids will help them internalize quantity without having to count. Giving them the confidence to "just know" without counting gives them a step up to fluency in math. I created a little mini unit to help me help my kids. This unit includes 21 pages of subitizing cards to print, cut apart and either use as a whole group mini lesson game or to put in your math tubs so kids can practice their "instant seeing." There are dominoes, dice, ten frames, fingers, tally count, subitizing circles, and numbers. You will also find a subitizing miniposter to post. Here are a couple of pics. For your free mini unit on Subitizing, Click HERE!! :) Hope this helps you!! Stay tuned for more subitizing fun!! Have a great day!! Joyfully! Nancy

What’s your favorite way to celebrate Halloween? Spending an evening exchanging scary stories with your closest friends, binging horror films that will make you sleep with the lights on for a week, or passing out candy to all of the adorable kids who dressed up as their favorite characters to go trick or treating? There’s no wrong way to embrace the spooky season, but if you’re looking for a frightening experience, what might be even more terrifying than ghost stories and strolls through moonlit cemeteries in the wee hours of the night is arriving on October 31 without a clue of what to dress up as that evening! The horror!
Easter and snow should not be mentioned in the same sentence. However, this year our weather has been really crazy and we have been experiencing unseasonable weather. I just put away my snow boots and hopefully, I will not have to retrieve them again until next winter. I made an egg shaped snow globe with an Easter egg hunt scene. I made the children to look like my son and daughter wearing their favorite clothes when they were little. Look at the PDF below to see what the scenery looks like...it is hard to get a good photo of the inside of the egg. Of course, Marley loves the Easter egg snow globe. The sliceform egg looks fantastic on its own if you would don't want the Easter egg hunt scenery. Here is the PDF. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7oGIyVDbRGYRHpCRGdXRzNWTVE/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-GEYy-kj6Ro4IB5zGuSLW0w Here is the .Studio file. I used cardstock. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7oGIyVDbRGYdGtVaDVmbUN0TWs/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-ALGAWI2goEILzazrIhmCKA The directions to make this sliceform are in a previous post. http://papercraftetc.blogspot.com/2013/12/paper-snow-globe-sliceform-for.html The Easter egg base is different then the previous version. You can use either base, if you would like, they are sized the same. Happy Easter!
