Pilosocereus leucocephalus Common Name(s): Old Man Cactus, Old Man of Mexico Synonyms: Pilocereus leucocephalus, Cephalocereus leucocephalus, Cereus cometes, Cephalocereus cometes, Pilosocereus cometes, Cephalocereus maxonii, Pilosocereus maxonii, Cephalocereus palmeri, Pilosocereus palmeri, Cephalocereus sartorianus, Pilosocereus sartorianus, Pilocereus tehuacanus, Pilosocereus tehuacanus This species comes from the coastal plain of Tamaulipas state in eastern Mexico, and also can be found growing in Guatemala and Honduras. Pilosocereus is a genus of around 50 species of columnar cactis that spreads from Mexico and West Indies down to northern South America. They are mostly large columnar cacti. The name Pilosocereus comes from the Latine for 'hairy Cereus'. As many other Cereus related cacti, Pilosocereus have large, light colored, heavily scented, funnel shaped flowers that open at night and stay open for less than 24 hours. Pilosocereus are generally not frost resistant, and should be protected. Most Pilosocereus come from an area that has a marked dry season from November to May, and a wet season from May to October. In cultivation, they will generally enjoy regular watering and fertilizing in late spring to early autumn, while only light watering is needed the rest of the year. This was part of the private collection of cacti and succulents at Manor Nursery, Angmering, West Sussex. The collection was started in 1948. The nursery is now gone. The collection has been dispersed to various new locations.

Epicactus amarillo Hábitat: híbrido de cultivo. Descripción: se trata de cruzas entre Epiphyllum, Echinopsis, Nopalxochia, Hylocereus, Heliocereus. Tienen tallos planos con forma de hoja. En primavera, aunque a veces en diferentes épocas, nos proveen de una de las más bellas floraciones entre las cactáceas. Con las raíces adventicias toman la humedad del aire. Sustrato: fórmula fértil. Exposición: nunca al sol directo. Agradecen el aire fresco y una exposición fuera de casa durante la fase de crecimiento. Temperatura: mínima de 10° C. Agua: no exponer el sustrato a largos períodos de sequía, sobre todo en la fase de crecimiento. En invierno mantener el suelo ligeramente húmedo. Cultivo: multiplicación por esqueje de primavera y verano. Abonar cada 15 días (20, 20, 20 + microelementos). Estas plantas necesitan calor y humedad ambiental durante todo el año, por lo cual es necesario rociarlas frecuentemente a temperatura ambiente. No gustan de los transplantes. Principales especies de Epicactus: híbridos multicolores.
