Vintage farmhouse animal printables you could use for crafts or just print out and frame (wouldn't these look cute in a baby's room?)
Yes, I made up this term for the "technique," but that's because it's so similar to the Double Time Stamping technique I shared earlier this week. And honestly, it's soooo easy that when I resurrected it, I started to wonder why I haven't used it in awhile. It's simple. Cut a shape out of a piece of Designer Series paper, then layer that shape onto a larger piece of coordinating cardstock before adhering it back into place, lining up the images with the cardstock layer in between. In this case,

High-Quality Merino Fibre The Ashford Merino Sliver is a 100% New Zealand product with wool from pasture-fed sheep from our high country sheep stations. The sheep, from which the Merino is, are well cared for and are not mulesed. After the sheep are shorn, on the farm, the wool is carefully skirted and checked. Only wool that is sound, clean with good fibre length, bulk and colour is selected. It is sent to a boutique New Zealand mill to be dyed, carded and combed. It is scoured (washed) using an environmentally-friendly, biodegradable detergent. The wool is then dried and dyed. The dyes comply with the strict EU regulations and garments made from the sliver can be certified under the Oeko-Tex Standard 100. This standard is the most widely known standard for certification of ecologically-safe clothing. (Detailed information can be found at www.oekotex.com). The fibre is then gently opened and conditioned. Carding machines align the fibres and remove any foreign matter. It is then gilled and combed. Merino wool is very soft with a closely spaced crimp. You can spin a fine woollen yarn using the long draw or a worsted yarn using a short draw. Merino is ideal for super fine knitting, crochet and lacework. Available in 100g and 500g bags.

No, in fact, this one is an alpaca. An alpaca is generally reckoned to be the closest analogue of China's mythical 'grass mud horse'. Forgive me, fellow China hands - I know this is getting to be a bit of a stale story for us by now, but our friends overseas may still be missing out (unless they read the New York Times article on it a couple of weeks ago). I had been meaning to write about this for a month or so now, and may have left it a bit too late. Oh well. Chinese Netizens, you see, can be a fractious bunch, and are much given to abusing each other in colourful terms. From time to time, the government launches a moral crackdown on this free-and-easy obscenity. But the online community is endlessly inventive in finding ways to circumvent such censorship. In fact, it's not so very hard, because the Chinese language has such a huge number of homophones that generating dirty puns often seems more like an unavoidable accident than a creative challenge. At the beginning of this year, in response to an attempt to filter and block comments including the favourite expression of abuse 操你妈 (cao ni ma - "F**k your mum!"), one Chinese forum created the alternate phrase 草泥马 (same pronunciation - though different tones, I think - but the nonsense meaning "grass mud horse"). Before long, it had spread all over the Internet and beyond. For 8 or 10 weeks, it has been one of the biggest pop culture phenomena in China. Elaborate stories were developed about this non-existent creature: its habitat in the Malegebi Desert (I won't tell you; you can guess; or consult the ChinaSmack glossary of online slang) was said to be under threat from the incursions of 'river crabs' (this, 河蟹, is a near-homophone for 'harmonious', Hu Jintao's favourite political buzzword, now co-opted by the country's Netizens as a synonym for censorship - "Oh no, I've been harmonized!" meaning that someone's comments, or a whole blog, have been deleted). The humble 'grass mud horse' has spawned numerous cartoons, and even a song (which I had been hoping to embed, but....) which was one of the funniest things I've seen on the Internet in a long, long time: cute pictures of llamas and alpacas accompanied by what appears to be a children's nonsense song - but is in fact an absolutely filthy lexicon of contemporary Chinese profanity. There were dozens of variations of this starting to appear on YouTube.... until a few days ago. Now, they've all been pulled. Boo! I wonder if that NYT article is responsible. The Chinese government was probably getting a bit hacked off with this joke anyway, but when it starts gathering "unfavourable" publicity overseas, then it's definitely time to act. I gather the Kafka Boys are trying to sweep the Internet clear of the offending phrase (I hope I don't get myself blocked again!). We'll just have to come up with something else.

I have used the Heartland set before to make cards. You can see these cards HERE and HERE. I am sharing another 2 cards with this set. I have enjoyed creating with this set. The images are so detailed and realistic. I know that it's a little boy but I see my girls when they were little and in their overalls. Man, I miss them being this little. The farm was stamped with Soft Suede ink on Crumb Cake card stock. The boy was stamped with Memento ink and colored with Blends. I saw a card like this one on Pinterest and I had to make my own. I used the Puff Paint that was available in the Holiday mini to create the snow on the ground and roof. There is a learning curve with puff paint! I'm not sure how I feel about the looks of this card but I do love the texture! Keep working with your stamps. Have you tried something a little different then what you would normally think to do? I wouldn't have thought to use this set for a Christmas card but it turned out OK! Happy Stampin'! Happy Sunday! I hope you all have had an amazing weekend! Saturday here was packed full! Wesley had a band performance in the morning, I did prom makeup at lunchtime and Taryn had her dance recital in the afternoon. It was truly one of those never a dull moments kind of day! The Creation Station Design Team is hopping with a masculine theme that we are calling MonuMENtal!! If you have followed me this week I have been using up the retiring Wood Textures DSP and this card is sure to not disappoint! Lets take a look! This card has a warm base of Crumb Cake Card stock with a mat of Mossy Meadow. The Wood Textures DSP is stamped using the Crackle Paint Background stamp. The Copper Foil is embossed with the Pinewood Planks. I have colored the horse using my Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends Combo pack and then stamped the tall grass like stamp from Country Road in Mossy Meadow. A nice Copper Heat embossed sentiment was just the right touch on this Thick Whisper White piece. I then die cut this with the new Stitched Nested Labels Dies that will be available 6/4! An accent of a Tin Tile embossed banner that has been shimmer painted with the Champagne Shimmer Paint, a Crumb Cake banner and Linen Thread with bow and this card was done! How serendipitous it is that this week's challenge is for a masculine card and I need one for my brother-in-law's birthday! Finally, I get to use that gorgeous Let It Ride stamp set. My brother-in-law loves horses and the great outdoors. What better way to use some of the images from this set than to create a watercolour background and then carefully do my stamping? I used a combination of Soft Suede and Crumb Cake inks for the mountains. Then I added some Balmy Blue for the water and, finally, some Mossy Meadow for the grass. Once that had dried, I stamped the trees using Mossy Meadow and then stamped the image again just to the side of the first stamping without re-inking. The darker and lighter trees add depth to the background. I stamped the horses using Basic Grey ink. To colour them in, for the one on the far left, I used a combination of Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand and for the one on the right, I used Grey Granite. To finish up, I sponged the edges using a combination of Soft Suede and Crumb Cake. My base is Early Espresso followed by a layer of that lovely and sadly retiring Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. I love how the colours work together for this card, don't you? I hope you'll check out the wonderful creations by the Watercooler Artists over at our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.
