The project was born inside Mercado Novo, consecrated by its many aromas, colors and flavors - a cultural and historical point of our city, Belo Horizonte. Saffron and annatto were the raw materials chosen as the object of research for the development of a product that would translate the stricking aspects of the place. Working in combination with paper and glue, these two natural pigments resulted in a mass that served as a coating for the creation of luminaries, presented in three sizes.

Laura Keeble is a London based artist whose works often use unconventional materials, many with references to consumerism and the contemporary art market. Her recent sculpture series interprets familiar, commonly seen objects and global brand logos using reclaimed church stained glass: Starbucks cups, McDonalds happy meals and CCTV cameras are just a few of the objects that she has cut from original antique church windows, made fantastic and divine with this stunning, discarded material.

Some refer to them as glass and stone enchantments, others as tomb-like and unsettling, but to artist Christina Bothwell, her work is highly spiritual. Her translucent figures rising from their bodies evoke images of a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, feeling mutually protected and secure but also fragile in spite of their hardy material. We first featured Bothwell's works on our blog, and since then, she has gone on to explore more personal themes, dealing with the fear of her own mortality, as well as the fragility and temporary qualities of our bodies, versus the idea that we are more than just physical beings.
